No matter how good I get at anything, I always consider myself a beginner. I will concede that sometimes I may be competent at something, but then I invariably see 10 (or 10,000) people better than I at it. They play stuff that I may learn someday, but likely not. I just play what I like and usually people remain seated and don't run screaming from the room. The secret to remember is that most watching you know nothing of what you do and marvel at even "mere" competence. Some might not know garbage from greatness but if you can keep the rhythm you will see toes tapping.

Well speaking as your teacher, you've been in intermediate territory for some time now & you're steadily improving on a very steady clip. Fear not! YOU are awesome and a rock star!

@@ratwynd One lesson I learned from my dad was "There is always something you can learn from every guitar player no matter what level they're at". It's always good to be looking for things that you can learn from anybody & maintain the humility to do that :)

@@ratwynd you make a good point! People will always be better, but it’s good to use them as inspiration rather than comparison, and use yourself for inspiration. Be better than you were yesterday and the day before!

Thank you, very helpful. I'm 67 years old and I started playing the guitar about a year ago and I've been wondering what I am. I've been learning bits and pieces everywhere with no real direction or understanding of what I should be doing and when. When I was in my 50's I took piano lessons for 4 years (really struggled) and I understand basic music theory which has been helpful, but your video shows me that I have missed a lot...scales, power chords. I tackled barre chords right away, slowed me down learning songs, but I was personally ok with that, not for everyone I'm sure. I have small arthritic hands but I love the guitar, I'm obsessed! My pinky finger is only 4.5 cm /1.75" long, I won't mention any. names but some guy on UA-cam was complaining about his small baby finger and I'm pretty sure it was twice as long as mine..lol

i am 71 and played as a kid and young man, then didn't until i retired. now playing 2-3 hours most days and taking lessons. Also playing out at open mics and learning to perform in front of humans. It is a difficult challenge on your own but still doable as there are may teaching resources online.
First recommendation is find a good teacher if you can.
If you need to get a smaller instrument, a 3/4 size instrument, maybe something like a Baby Taylor might work better for small hands. It will be easier if you find a guitar that fits you. I played Dreadnought guitars but recently got a OM size and I play it all the time now. Not a huge difference in size but is a lot more comfortable to play and hold. Maybe a 1/2 inch in thickness and inch in body length smaller but feels substantially more 'compact' in the hand.

Yes! You can do this! Like @ratwynd said, playing a smaller scale guitar like a 3/4 size or something will go a long ways to making it easier. Also, going for daily walks of up to 45 minutes may help as well as it’s been shown to stimulate synovial fluid in joints (even in hands). I’m glad this is giving you some stuff to look forward to learning!

I certainly don't consider myself a beginner precisely because I don't even know what my hands are doing most of the time, my muscle memory takes charge and my hands know exactly where to go and which strings to pluck for the sound I am after. Because I play by ear, where I may still be a beginner is in knowing the names of everything and reading sheet music. Knowing how a chord shape will sound comes automatic to me, knowing what the chord is called does not. Even though I play by ear, it took some time to familiarize myself with the fret board where my hands automatically know where to go now.

Are studio albums big or small compared to a chapter book 📕 📖 📚? And in your own opinion It is a cohesive collection of songs used to tell a bigger theme or project an overall vibe. Think of an album as a book. And your songs as chapters.
Every book has chapters. Every album has songs.
Each chapter is different. Each song is different.
But the collection of chapters (the collection of songs) is what tells the full story of the book (of the album) 💿. Usually the songs on an album are the result of an artist's creations during a season of life. This means the songs can all speak to a similar set of themes, ideas and topics. So the aim of an album name is to try and sum up the big story/concept that all the songs pull from when they were written. It's not always like these, especially today. But traditionally, an album is like a "book" with the songs inside being like "chapters." You agreed 👍 chapters in a book yes taking taking the different song sections and compiling them building out a story is like a mini book with different chapters and uh adding in those details to make the song really shine . Chapters of the book are very detailed and some people say instead of track one they say chapter one yeah . so with the different uh uh the analogy to storytelling is is
maybe not even an analogy it might even be like exactly the same because the song lyrics are in essence telling a
story um other people who said the music of the words uh or the music of the words then
the Rhythm then the bass then the basic Baseline Melody then tweak the words then detail of the melody harmonies then
transitions then tweak the harmonies then recycle ♻. Song title plus numbers equals 🟰 chapters lyrics equals 🟰 details. Are studio albums are leaning towards mini which is small book 📕 or full book 📕 📖 📚 both mini and full book 📕 📖 📚 chapter book 📕 📖 📚 which is In my opinion the number is a chapter which means a main division of a book, typically with a number or title while the song title is a song title more of chapter 1 leaning towards book 📕 📖 📚. It dosen’t matter how you say it if an album total 🟰 duration is about 29:25 and it has about 10 chapters it would considered a mini book 📕 📖 📚 but an album that has 8 chapters and the total 🟰 duration is about 49:37 it would consider as a full book 📖 📕 📚 to me it dosen’t matter how long or short the albums are but in my preference albums are books 📖 📚 📕. But what’s your own opinion about it? Are studio albums are leaning towards chapters In my opinion the number is a chapter which means a main division of a book, typically with a number or title while the song title is a song title more of chapter 1 leaning towards book 📕 📖 📚.

Every time I watch a video explaining what an intermediate guitar player is I learn things I should know, but then watch another video and find out I'm still not an intermediate player. The bar just seems to get higher and higher...

Like I said, the actual content or stuff that you learn is pretty subjective because it’s really going to depend on your goals and what kind of music you play, but the biggest factor is if you’re still babysitting your hands. It’s better to get fewer things to the point of not having to babysit your hands than to worry about the wider knowledge base that can be picked up later. You’ve got this! What is giving you the most trouble right now?
