One of my favorite Metagame articles back in the day was covering Vincent Tundo's Life Equalizer/Blasting the Ruins deck. The deck used cards like Convulsion of Nature, Archfiend's Oath, Pigeonholing Book of Spells, and Royal Magical Library to draw out his deck and lower his life points, allowing him to activate Blasting the Ruins and Life Equalizer on his opponent's turn for game. Quite a fun play by play to read, if only for his opponent's confused reactions every step of the way.
I went 6-2 at the regional in this format with only one Dark Armed Dragon and one of the losses was because I got a game loss due to not thinking my opponent would solemn judgment an Armageddon knight in the last round. Unfortunately the deck mysteriously disappeared after the round and I had to pay a friend for some of the cards I borrowed
That sucks. It was only at a local game shop but my deck was stolen too like 16 years ago, which is why I stopped playing the physical game. Aside from the Premature Burial missed ruling which everybody in the comment section has been pointing at already, just a little note on Reasoning and Monster Gate when you have no eligible targets in the deck to Special Summon: yes, you can still activate both the cards because of the "Fail to find" ruling MBT had mentioned at the end of the first duel. However, in this case all the cards that were excavated through their effects will go shuffled back into the deck. Good news is, it would have not mattered here as MBT had exactly 4200 damage without counting the three spells he milled.
Once the history and progression series is over I would love to see the players swapped. So gage is doing the history and mbt is doing the progression. I think that would be amazing
Dark Armed dragon was the first deck I ever proxied to try to understand why it was so powerful. This and Gladiator Beasts would be what cemented me deciding to get out of the game after I went off to college. That and the absolutely absurd price tag of the dragon. Also the Konami vs. Upperdeck legal battle happens relatively soon and put the state of the game in jeopardy in a way I don't know if it can be adequately explained if you weren't there at the time.
I didn't realize that with the only 3 dark monster requirement only meant darks and thought if I had other cards like attributes spells and traps than it would stop the summon. So I ended up trading it for something that I needed at the time

When you trunade with premature burial the monster equipped does not leave the field. I've seen this mistake a couple times now watching this series. Premature reads "when this card is destroyed." Returning it to the hand or deck with something like wing blast or raiza does not destroy. That's part of what made Brionac plus premature so broken.
Not sure I agree with how the first game went. Mainly cause MBT sent the E-Calls too the grave when he had no targets. But in the end he COULD just set his whole hand so there's that I guess lol
DMoC and Dimension Fusion is even better if you add in Spell Economics and Mass Driver/Cannon Soldier. Creates a damage loop that is so slow your opponent will surrender first.
This was an exciting episode. I guess my memories from around this time are a bit hazy, I was expecting the TGC exclusive dark grephier to make an appearance.
I remember playing in this format, I pulled a DAD whilst playing a clone of DAD Return, but I ran 3 Dark Nephthys rather than Dark Armed Dragon. I remember very, very narrowly losing that game to a DAD off the top, but it was an amazing game.
I love how MBT had to work for his wins. He really had to mill the whole deck, plus get some other damage in along the way, because he was only ever able to use 1 Magical Explosion in each game.
You should absolutely do a special History of Yugioh video with John Moore as a guest for him to show case his six samurai deck. It would be so much fun!
Nevermind, I just testplayed DAD Return and found out why it was so inconsistent. It was because I didn't include the pre-errata DMOC. It's crazy how much consistency it gives the deck. Not just because of Premature Burial and Call of the Haunted but also because of Gold Sarcophagous. You can banish it and imemdiatly summon it with Dimension Fusion to get more draw power. It's especially nasty in combination with Disk Commander. The draw power and consitency DMOC gives DAD Return is crazy. I always new that DMOC was very good but I finally understood why it got banned. It makes already broken decks even more broken.

back in the day, you were allowed to activate cards even if you could not resolve them, ancient rulings
@@Orfeh9999 big yikes rulings for me lol. But re-watching that moment, he also could just set them all to resolve explosion too win anyway
@@MaxClawsonYT how would setting his spells be the same? they need to be in the graveyard to count for magical explosion
@@anr4139 he had more than enough damage too win, and it's the same cause explosion reads the owner must have no cards in hand
Cimooo is saying everybody hates this deck but I'm loving it...
...because it defeated Cimooo
I love this set, got me back into the game
Nice. The set that forced Cimo into a hiatus brought you back into the game xD
"it's February of 2008 and yugioh is finally over"

DMoC and Dimension Fusion is even better if you add in Spell Economics and Mass Driver/Cannon Soldier.
Creates a damage loop that is so slow your opponent will surrender first.
Did MBT ever consider using Cyber Valley to stack Magical Explosion and then draw with the other Cyber Valley?
This was an exciting episode. I guess my memories from around this time are a bit hazy, I was expecting the TGC exclusive dark grephier to make an appearance.
Wow that magical explosion deck is awesome!
And here we are again. Joseph, one more win, and you get the three in a row
I remember playing in this format, I pulled a DAD whilst playing a clone of DAD Return, but I ran 3 Dark Nephthys rather than Dark Armed Dragon. I remember very, very narrowly losing that game to a DAD off the top, but it was an amazing game.
Ok that blackwing joke just before the shout out was pretty good.
I haven’t watched the video yet but I’ve been waiting so long for this video
After video: Damn burn go burhhhh
"Before you go, could you click on as many ads as possible? It really helps the revenue." I like how honest this is, lads need ze monies.
This was definitly one of the funniest episodes for far lol. I'm rolling hahah
"You are functionally gonna die to a big spooky gun" sounds like the most terrifying fortune cookie message possible.
I played glads at this nationals.
Dmoc stays when premature is trunade activated btw.
This was perhaps the best episode so far.
I was dreading the way the wheel almost gave us a magical explosion mirror XD thank you cimo
He said it he said the name of the show
Thank you cimo for saving us from that mirror match
I'd say "What? No Game 3 for fun?" but then I see the length of the video and the misery of Cimo and it's fine.
Game 2:
when you trunade prem, the monster stays. the card is not destroyed.
big oops
Joseph definitely has style when it comes to card sleeves :)
Just in time, nice way to start the weekend off 🙌🏽
Seeing Cimooo play DAD Return warms my heart
37:36 if you close your eyes you can hear Morty beating Rick in a duel 😂
This set is the Dark Side of the Moon of Yu-Gi-Oh sets, it changed the game for the rest of time
