But the majority of games are just those two turns where the same shit happens regardless of your deck.

I'm surprised Cimo was so reluctant to blindly Dust Tornado in game 2. He knew from the game 1 Nobleman that MBT was playing Mirror Force and triple Sakuretsu, and even said himself "show me the Saku", and with his limited resources at that point the only way he could plausibly out a monarch was successfully attacking with Tsukuyomi.
Yeah, I was thinking that there wasn't any good reason for him *not* to Dust that single backrow. Not that it would've mattered by that point I don't think.

I do remember there being a ruling that if you try to suck up a monster with a restrict and the restrict is destroyed before resolution that the targeted monster gets send to grave.
Well, I commented in the last time you did it, but it was usleess, so I'll try again. Ring in reponse to TER eff doesn't work like that, after going to gy, TER will try to resolve as much as possible and the targeted monster will be sent to the gy.
If you chain ring to ter effect, ter goes to grave and its effect doesn't resolve because it cant equip a monster if it's not on the field. The targeted monster will stay on the field and does not get destroyed. Check goatformat.com for individual rulings if you're interested in that
Since this is the end of the GOAT format videos I figured I should leave my thoughts on it here. In the past I was a big advocate for the format until I began to learn what it really was. People say "I miss the old yugioh" and I was saying that too, BEFORE I really saw how crazy some of the decks are. When I say I miss the old yugioh, I really do mean the OLD yugioh. The time period. The culture and life I had back then. My "old" yugioh was schoolyard duels and kitchen table or living room floors duels at sleepovers. Decks were vast and random and creative but nothing was terribly OP or devastating. Because we were all kids. Buying singles didn't even exist. We bought packs and starter decks. Things never felt unfair because alll the REALLY good cards were hard to get and we all had but one or two. So when I say I miss the old yugioh, it's definitely not GOAT or any of the other incredibly disgusting decks that were played. I miss the environment of every kid doing their best to scrounge together a 40 card deck to win. Even if it meant including a celtic guardian or an even weaker monster because it was the strongest card they had left to use. That's what I miss. The extremely limited by nature format that was my small town country boys "locals". What I miss unfortunately can't come back but I do my best to mimic it with special Yugioh Cube and some specific rule sets. When yugioh fizzled out I lost a lot of friends as we all branched pathways and took on "adult" activities. I say "adult" because we were all still in Junior high/high school but the culture around growing up and being a teenager did not allow us to play yugioh. I still did at home and still do to this day. I haven't been to a locals in YEARS since I still live in this small country side town with only one stop light. Those were good times and are so nostalgic for me and this was a great series to relive the true META of the format I grew up with. Yugioh really did fizzle out here in my town after The Lost Millenium (kind of an ironic name almost) I never saw cyber dragon be played. And I didn't own a copy till years later when it was reprinted in Epic Dawn or War of the Giant's (can't remember which) My experience with yugioh with other players only exists in my childhood and it's hard to bridge that gap and actually hop over to a locals. I never had but once and got completely obliterated.
Hey guys. Love the show, have been putting it on while going to sleep this week. The nostalgia is fucking REAL. I remember cracking some of those older boxes with my uncle, wish I knew what happened to my cards. Anyways, all the best. Brandon
I've been debating on whether I should get into Goat Format, it seems like it's only around $20 to get a competitive deck nowadays thanks to reprints and could definitely be a fun time with friends that don't know the game as it has evolved to today.
Goat Format Rogue decks are some of funniest decks I've played. The only expensive cards in the format are Delinquent Duo and BLS, which are thankfully one-ofs.
@@motokuchoma I actually remember paying 11 for a Duo in 2017 and thinking I got fleeced when it was reprinted in LC: Kaiba. How did it creep up to 25? BLS is a quarter now. Thank you Shaddoll Showdown!
I'd really recommend it. If you get a good deal on Duos the best decks possible are still about 40 bucks apiece. Do be careful about printings, though - explaining the Ring errata gets old with new players.
@djo lo Progression Series isn't as interesting as this one. The Progression Series is way to reliant on pull luck, which is why there are so many long win streaks
@@RealKingChief Is the Progression Playoff Series more exciting and balanced? Or do they also have endless win streaks going on like in the progression series?
@@pandaman1331 What the other person said. The fact that they ban cards makes it more fun and also MBT plays with 4 other people (they do a bracket setup). Also, Joseph is just generally more memey and funnily edgy over on his channel (I personally like his humour).
I try not to look at the length of the video, as not to potentially spoil the outcome of the video, but when I saw that open in game two, I already knew this was going to game three.
I'm really surprised at there being no Jinzo in the Soul Control deck. Jinzo functions as a Monarch in everything but name and shuts down tons of powerful traps in the Goat Format. I definitely run him in my Soul Control deck and he is a insane card for my opponents to deal with. Maybe its because the more "modern" Goat decks tend to run fewer traps? Although I wonder if that's because Jinzo exists, so they are building around that threat, and thus less traps, thus not needing Jinzo? Anyways, I love this section of the History of Yugioh, and could watch you guys play Goat Format all day. Maybe you could do a separate series just on playing Goat Format matches!
I found a couple of Discussion threads from 2005 in which people compared Jinzo to Mobius. There certainly are good arguments for both sides. Jinzo only prolongs the use of trap cards until it leaves the field, while Mobius gets rid of them for good even if it potentially falls to one of them. It seems people prefered Mobius over Jinzo at this time and rather sides Jinzo. There defenitely are a lot of outs to Jinzo compared to the 2003 format in which it reigned supreme. Smashing Ground, Book of Moon, Tribe, D.D. Warrior Lady, Snatch Steal, Thousand-Eyes, Creature Swap etc. It seems like people were not only bothered by the effects but also about Jinzo being snatched away by Snatch Steal or Creature Swap. Outing Mobius is easier than outing Jinzo
@@pandaman1331 Great explanation! That definitely makes sense, and with all of the stealing effects available, it almost seems like a bad idea to run strong cards that you can't easily out yourself.
I love the interactions between both of these guys when semo kept activating noblemen of cross out on mbt monsters his reactions were priceless in game two, and three. Dear Cimoooooooo, the card Abyss Soldier came out in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monster Coliseum for the PS2 in 11/26/2004. The other promos that came in with it are Inferno Hammer and Teva. The More You know :)
Formats like GOAT (and premodern in Magic) are such great ways to snapshot pieces of the past that would otherwise be lost to time, it's partially a shame that Yu-Gi-Oh only officially has the traditional/advanced formats but with those being so complex it's understandable that Konami wouldn't want to shift resources away from managing them via reprints and bannings. Having the internet allow us to make a globally consistent Old School format is such a blessing. I'll definitely be looking at picking up some goat decks in paper at some point as a self contained game from history, and knowing others out there recognise the same piece of history makes that piece of history even more special to me.

tfw when the non-goat control decklost plays more goats than goat control
I do remember there being a ruling that if you try to suck up a monster with a restrict and the restrict is destroyed before resolution that the targeted monster gets send to grave.
Thats the modern ruling. Old rulings can be a bit different
Yeah goat had a different ruling on that interaction, they played it properly

Brandon
1:06 MBT lost all of his subscribers after this statement. He now raises Alpacas in Peru.
Duo is disgustingly expensive I play a heavily played version
@@MBTYuGiOh damn mbt so excited about goat format, he is replying to people about it LOL
I can't wait for this series to reach 2019 yugioh in 2024, and have the match come down to whomever can top deck elpy
I'm gonna miss Pot of Greed when it's gone :(
@djo lo Progression Series isn't as interesting as this one. The Progression Series is way to reliant on pull luck, which is why there are so many long win streaks
@@pandaman1331 I prefer MBT's Progression Playoffs personally but I still watch Progression Series.
@@RealKingChief Is the Progression Playoff Series more exciting and balanced? Or do they also have endless win streaks going on like in the progression series?
@@pandaman1331 Some long losing streaks, but the fact that they both ban cards and have multiple players keeps the thing more unpredictable.
@@pandaman1331 What the other person said. The fact that they ban cards makes it more fun and also MBT plays with 4 other people (they do a bracket setup). Also, Joseph is just generally more memey and funnily edgy over on his channel (I personally like his humour).
Even though there were some bricks and unfortunate draws, it was still very entertaining to see the 3 episodes dedicated to goat format!
I feel like all these decks are very "two pictures meme", which is what I remember YGO being like so I guess it didn't change for a bit.
Cimoo foreshadowing goat control shows his fortuneteller abilities
Heck yeah, thanks for the extra GOAT episode. Looking forward to Cyberdragons, but GOAT needed the extra coverage.
Goodbye goat players from the comment section
Tea cries in a corner for MoF
Tea cries in corner "as" MoF
I was not expecting 15 ads holy shit
I try not to look at the length of the video, as not to potentially spoil the outcome of the video, but when I saw that open in game two, I already knew this was going to game three.
14:09 No, he isn't in the Structure deck I think he got released in a YGO video game.
I also couldn’t stop laughing after mbt used magician of faith I think it’s one of his best quotes when he said delinquent duo into pot of greed into pot of greed into fuck me over.
so... because of minute 8:09, and having already lost one laptop because of failure, this gave me the biggest adrenaline spike in the whole game.
Man, that sure was some skillful gameplay
Awesome video! Hope to see some of you join our goat format community!
Been following you guys for years
Cut the videos down to 10 minutes tops for accessibility
Try to make a tier 2 format for your tournaments
Is there a way to add OCG cards into the format like at least the fusions that weren’t available but legal (most notably blue eyes ultimate)
Brain storming here … the format. Could be so much more inclusive and honestly with enough collaboration of people heavily involved their could be more diversity
Been waiting for this and goat is legitimately fun I started playing round the beginning of covid and it's a blast if you tired of the game it's a nice change of pace and before someone comments I'm a goat elitist or something I play comp almost every Sunday at locals I'm currently playing rokket dragonlink.
Is Dragonlink still viable?
@@pandaman1331 D-Link is probably the best deck of the format, it's very good. Not without counters though, and dino is hard to bear
@@CM-tv2bu I always tell myself to try D-Link but I never seem to find the motivation to try it xD. Btw, is BLS playable in this deck with Chaos Space? Not asking if it's good, only if D-Link consists of Light And Darks to give it enough Chaos Space targets for BLS
@@pandaman1331 yeah you definitely have the targets to summon it, it's a strictly inferior levianeer but its playable
@@CM-tv2bu I know, the ignition effect of levianeer is nice. It helps at your turn or at your opponents turn and I defenitely like it but I still have a soft spot for BLS
Mbt is playing my main goat deck! Let's goooo!
Those are the only 2 monarchs you play? I’ve been wanting to build it :)
@@JohnnyVasquez8 pretty much. I usually have end of anubis and zaborg teched in for just a little more utility. But soul control mainly relying on things like soul exchange, brain control, and enemy controller are able to clear the opponent's field well enough that you don't need more than thestalos and mobius
@@nichardrixon3427 I always wondered why more people didn’t play Enemy Controller back then. I know it’s never comparable but that card put in work in Duel Links when it first came out. Haha
@@JohnnyVasquez8 it's because it takes a decent amount of investment ment to get a monster for a turn that you'd just tribute off. Really only works best in 3 cars combos using soul exchange to tribute an opponents monster to take one of theirs and then tribute. Massive payout if you pull it off, but so unlikely that people usually use brain control over e con
I love Goat format ive been getting into videos of it and made a deck on dueling book just have paralysis to start playing don't want my first match to be against someone who has played goat for 20 years just gotta climb that wall and i think ill love it
MBT really referencing the oldest cursed things of the internet with his card back ffs
Could you explain?
@@codycarney2311 id tell you to google it, but i dont want you to see it, its just a gaping butthole that youd see by clicking on a link called a goatse, it was an old reddit thing
Dear Cimoooooooo, the card Abyss Soldier came out in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Capsule Monster Coliseum for the PS2 in 11/26/2004. The other promos that came in with it are Inferno Hammer and Teva. The More You know :)
although i do wish i had seen more of what these decks on the wheel do i am happy i got some sort of view as to what goat format actually played like
That greedy Heavy Storm play really hurt to watch.
I thought my laptop screen was breaking but loading this on my phone the blinking is an issue with the vid worth taking a look for next time, nice episode as always
