How Mormon is "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives?" ft. Indy Blue

- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- Lauren and Chan are joined by special guest Indy Blue to chat about all things related to “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.” The gals dive into the complicated dynamics of not just the women on the show, but how the show relates specifically to Utah Mormon culture and what it looks like to be Mormon in today’s world. They look at the relationships between the women and their husbands, the perception of the level of sinning, the issues the women on the show face as a result of being raised in a religious patriarchal society, and the real impact of #MomTok.

great episode!!!! as a kid who grew up in the mormon church, this show perfectly captures how it doesn’t matter who you are or how you abide by the church’s teachings, you WILL be judged by your fellow members in some capacity. that is always what felt wrong to me about the church even as a little girl.
@@HaleyJeanASMR thanks so much for listening!! ✨✨✨
Zac feels the need to bring Jen down with his words because he feels like he is less than her as she is the breadwinner currently. He is horrible because this sweet lady is just trying to be support him in every way possible
@@libraz8826 🎯 spot on!
It’s hard to even judge Dakota knowing he’s a recovering addict and what comes with that. The way he acts, behaves and is in a relationship 100% stems from being an addict and not being fully healed spiritually, mentally and emotionally. It’s the #1 reason drug counselors say to not date anyone for the first year of your sobriety. I feel for him
Definitely agree with that! So curious to see what his and Taylor’s future looks like.
I agree with that as far as explaining his immaturity, but he truly has deep abuser vibes. It's hard to separate the two because all the things that cause him to have no boundaries or respect for Taylor, come from the same deep rooted issues that cause him to abuse drugs.
@@shelby477I agree with you. He gives me clout chasing vibes AND wanting the ego-gratification of getting the "cool liberated girl" to change and submit to him by getting into a traditional Mormon marriage with him.
@@moustik31 Yep, exactly. Plus his absolute disregard for Taylor being so pregnant as so exhausted because he wants to fight and get his point across right then and there, told me everything about him.

You guys did a great job with this podcast. First time I've watched you, it won't be the last.
Thank you!!!
Ya’ll crushed it with this one. Would love this as a continuous series like mini episodes discussing the nuances of Mormonism and how it affects people long term for pop apologists👀
Thank you so much!! 🫶
Yes, very interesting! The 3 of them did well balancing the conversation, not speaking over one another.
I was fascinated by how social media has become so acceptable in the LDS church that used to be more controlling of the outside worlds influence culturally.
This was a really fantastic conversation and review!
Tysm!! So happy that you liked it!
I wholeheartedly agree with you! The only thing I think would make it even more representative and interesting is to throw in an Utah county business mom who really is a true blue Molly Mormon. I accept and embrace all these women as Mormons, but the most “saintly” one is still not following many standards (which I have no problem with) and have at least one who was fully LDS “modest” and really towing the line would bring even more variety.
They saw your vid!! on Sofia Franklyn's interview Jessi quotes you! @ 8:16
Hope you guys could maybe interview some of the cast one day. I gained new perspective on Mormon culture and faith after the show and this podcast episode. I think some really productive conversations can come from you guys talking with the ladies and if it happens I will be sat!!
Thanks so much for your comment! Hoping to continue the conversation in the future 🤞
Finished the show & immediately tuned in - thank you for covering! This was the cultural context discussion I was craving about this show 🙌🏻
So happy you liked the ep!! ❤
i came across you guys on insta, and was so intrigued by what you were saying i HAD to watch. i really appreciate your guys perspectives, especially as someone who was watching the show as an ex-mormon. i think you ladies were able to really understand all the nuances of these women’s live as people who grew up in a similar fashion. will be subscribing!!
@@candylove-if7sx thank you so much for your kind words! Truly happy you are here!
You're all so well spoken and explain this perfectly !!
Thanks so much! ❤❤❤
I totally agree with you- the open vulnerability of all the young women makes SLoMW meaningful and real. ❤
Thank you!!! So happy you’re here!
This was a very insightful podcast! I've watched the show twice through now and listening to you ladies. Definitely changed my perspective! I know I was very hard on the women on the show for skirting around the rules and, in my opinion, not being very good friends of each other. Hearing how much pressure is on these women to be perfect. It makes complete sense to me now. Also, you guys are right and they are showing up for each other especially since they haven't been friends for very long. Anyways, sorry for the Long comment. This is all just to say I really appreciated this podcast!
@@kayleigh5823 thank you so much!! so happy the ep gave a helpful perspective. ❤️ thank you for listening!
agree 100% with what you guys said. very accurate take on the show and religion.
Thank you!
I think Whitney’s on the spectrum. I have two siblings who are autistic and she reminds me of them so much
I wonder if that's the case!
I think it would make so much sense! Even if you take it back to the RSV video it seems like she truly doesn’t understand social cues or why something’s will be seen as inappropriate. I also think her avoiding apologizing and confrontations may step from not understanding how to respond/that there was anything wrong in the first place.
I really don’t need another podcast BUT I’m willing to replace one with y’all, P.D.Q.(as my mom used to yell in the 70s)! Yes, I’m your newest yet oldest fan. Subscribed & excited.👏🏼💪🏼🫶🏼😘😘😘
Thank you so much!! Truly so happy to have you here!!
❤❤❤
Casted 🤣
You all are spot on about all points of the church and the show!! Thank you!! Such a good episode!
