    I enjoyed your video. I live in rattlesnake country and find them to usually mind their own business unless they feel threatened. They are very agile - I met one climbing right out of a sheer cliff wall in the Tuweep area of the Grand Canyon.

    I've found Mojave rattlesnakes at Red Rock Canyon, I've found Sidewinders and Panamint rattlesnakes at Mount Charleston, but the Western Diamondbacks are usually found further south. A friend of mine came across a Western Diamondback in Grapevine Canyon near Laughlin.

    Very informative video about these venomous snakes and thanks for sharing!! There are 6 venomous snake species in eastern NC where I live. Even though I’m afraid of snakes, I now have a higher respect for these reptiles because of this video. I’ll always fear snakes, but will forever respect as they don’t want to harm you unless threatened. Again thanks 👍👍👍

      The first time i went to ice box canyon. I was all alone nobody in the vicinity and saw a magnificent rattler right by where i was walking not even off the trail. It was sitting on this rock stood up and started rattling. I freaked out and thankfully nothing happened. It was a 5min standoff before i had to find another path to get back to the trailhead

    Other snakes share the same traits and people love them! For instance my favorite, the California Kingsnake.
    People fear them because they are capable of killing us...

      Which method you use to kill it? Bullet to the head works nicely, I think I would use that one. But if you capture them by hand, I saw the break neck whip method. That shit is crazy

    I got bitten by one trying to measure its length with a tape measure so I could maintain the proper distance. The snake really didn't like being stretched out.

    What should I do if I am hiking ALONE in the desert and get bit? She doesn't address that. All her answers seem to assume 2 or more people together. I like to hunt alone, and often 1-2 miles from my car.

      +Robert Jensen, first, don't get bit. ;) Follow the tips on how to avoid encounters with rattlesnakes, and stay safe.
      If things go bad, still follow the same procedures you would if someone were with you. Calm yourself, get back to your car in a timely manner with as little exertion as possible, and get to medical help as soon as you can. You may get sick and it may be unpleasant, but chances are very good you won't die.

      Me too. Yeah, that is a question I am planing to ask a ranger in AZ soon. I thought I was very aware until I almost stepped on a stick/black-tail rattlesnake. Oct at dusk, so she was cold and moving real slow. She just wanted nothing to do with me and just slowly backed away. Time for lots of pics.
      Your only choices are walk out, or contact someone and wait - maybe waiting for someone to come by if the location is popular. If no communications and no chance someone will accidentally walk by, only one choice - walk and keep telling yourself that few people die.

    "If the number of people who die from Rattlesnake bites is miniscule, where does the fear originate?"
    Our fears, those things humans are almost universally afraid of are not shaped so much by our experiences, but by millions of years of human evolution.
    Sure, in the past 100 years or so medical science has come a long way, we have hospitals, ambiances, helicopters to airlift patients. Once we get you to a place where you can receive doctors care for your injury, we have anti-venoms, we have antibiotics to prevent fatal infections, we have respirators and life support equipment that can artificially keep you alive while your body desperately tried to heal itself.
    These are all modern advents. Sure in this modern world, we've dramatically reduced the rate of fatality. Even if the venom itself didn't kill you, subsequent infections from necrosis was the next obstacle to climb over. We control this by neutralizing the venom with anti-venoms, massive doses of antibiotics and even still sometimes amputations are still needed. An amputation today isn't going to mean near certain death
    as it did in prior ages, but it's still a harmful injury that evolution would be concerned about. I think most people know that the Copperheads venom is weaker than just about or perhaps any species of rattlesnake, and slightly less potent than the water moccasins venom. Unfortunately sometimes people don't take copperhead bites seriously, they assume it will hurt a lot but it would probably start to feel better the next days and maybe back to normal in a week or so. They end up going to th doctor with severe necrosis and there is often little the doctor can do but to amputate the dead and dying tissue. Yes, it's true, copperhead bites are rarely fatal to humans, you probably won't die, but you probably also wouldn't want to have an arm or foot amputated.
    Evolution also has to weigh the risk vs reward of a situation. Compared with other things humans could eat, venomous snakes are definitely on the more dangerous side of potential meals. The risk is on the higher side, and even if you manage to capture the snake without getting bitten, the reward is a relatively small amount of foodstuffs. It's not going to feed the family for a week, so if you want to rely on venomous snakes as a normal staple of your diet, you will have to go out hunting several times a week, each time with the real possibility that your luck will run out.
    So yeah, human evolution has shaped our minds to be particularly fearful of these animals. You just aren't going to change millions of years of developmental evolution in the matter of 100 years.

    It's actually important to keep the bitten part elevated above the level of the heart. The older text books all stated otherwise; to lower the part below the level of the heart. But, newer research has shown that it is actually better to elevate.

    Also do rattlesnake nest in trees?

    • @bt4350

      Then two people instead of one will be envenomated and the first guy will also be bleeding now.

    • @Tongomongo_1
      @Tongomongo_1 7 років тому +4

      fujisaii cutting and suck does nothing, in fact it would probably worsen the situation. cutting is problematic because now, you have an even larger open wound, which can lead to infaction, or mass blood loss. "sucking the venom out" is a myth. when a snake bites you, it injects the venom deep into your skin, and enters your blood stream, you wouldn't be able to "suck out the venom" even if you wanted to.

    • @SkaterChick1972
      @SkaterChick1972 6 років тому +1

      Don't suck!! That's a myth for sure. And no they don't nest in trees.

      Your more likely to infect the bite trying to suck out tye venom than you are likely to actually suck some out, and even if you did its not all that smart to have venom in your mouth

      Wow. You need to check Google, read a bit more or pull your collective head out of your ass. Pittsburgh has been named the most livable city in the USA three or four times since 1985 and is consistently in the top 10. Since your clueless, dumbass isn't in the know, I'll inform you. Pittsburgh is a thriving economic hub that has revitalized itself through the financial markets PNC Bank, BNY Mellon, Google, Uber, Dick's Sporting Goods, GNC and a host of others. We are also on the finalization list for Amazon. Pittsburgh is one of the top cities in the nation for health care including transplants, brain injuries and teaching hospitals. We are home to CMU which attracts the best students from around the globe and is one of the top robotics programs in the country. THERE. You're clued in. BTW. I'll put the average IQ and superior school systems of the Pittsburgh communities of Shady Side, Squirrel Hill, Point Breeze, Oakland, Fox Chapel, Mt. Lebanon, Upper St. Clair, Hampton, Pine-Richland, North Allegheny against ANYTHING your sorry asses can drum up in the South West. Trust me. Keep wrangling rattlesnakes and paying top dollar for for a 60x120 plot of sand, fucktard.

    • @williamwheeler9708
      @williamwheeler9708 6 років тому

      Pittsburgh is and has been known as "The Melting Pot" of the US for over 150 years. Immigrants from Italy, Poland, Germany, Croatia, Jews settled here and stayed here. Low IQ, NitWit? You ever heard of UPMC (University of Pittsburgh) medical teaching hospitals? Carnegie Mellon? Duquesne? Probably not because you're an ignorant fuck. Our economy is THRIVING. Pittsburgh has reinvented itself from the steel industry to become a leader in medicine, financial markets, robotics. But, you knew that already, right? As for being racist? Sorry, Thunder Cunt. As retired Police Officer, I know for a fact based on FACTS that where you have large numbers of Hispanics you have high crime rates. Muslims? Say no more. It wasn't Presbyterians, Methodists and Baptists flying planes into buildings or blowing themselves up in markets or driving rented trucks down city sidewalks mowing people down. WAS IT? I'll match my IQ with most people any day. Keep taking yours with a tire gauge.

      that's actually a really dumb idea.because of idiots like you killing every rattlesnake they see instead of leaving them alone there are now really aggressive rattlesnakes that don't have the ability to rattle.so they now bite you long before you have a chance to shot them or even react to them.
      shot the ones that don't rattle and go straight for attack.leave the ones that rattle and run.
