Please do not take this guy’s advice on snake handling. Nooses should never be used on snakes (use snake tongs if you need a tool other than a snake hook to stabilize them) and support their body weight between 1/3 and 1/2 way down their body. Never by the neck like that. Those 2 things will injure and often kill the snake. When he demonstrated putting the snake in the tub and removing it from the tub, his hands were well within striking distance multiple times. You should be using the lid as a shield for your hand. The lid should have a place to grip on the top so you aren’t grabbing the edge where the snake can bite you. Even though you’re moving super fast, a rattlesnake can still strike way faster, plus the fast movements make it more likely to strike. Keep in mind, rattlesnakes have heat sensing pits and can still see your hand even if it’s behind something. They know exactly where your hand is before you even open the container so it’s best to remove the lid with a snake hook instead of your hand. Make sure that the container is open and ready for the snake before you pick up the snake. Always apply pressure to the lid until fully secured or the snake can push the lid up and escape. Most importantly, if you aren’t experienced and qualified with venomous snakes, don’t handle them or move them yourself. Pretty much any populated area that has venomous snakes also has services to relocate them if necessary.

Thank you for your advice. I ordered a snake catcher, rolled electric tape around the pincher. I used your idea of a Tupperware tote with 3 bungees. I have been able to catch and release 5 cottonmouths this way.... using other people's advice to catch away from the neck/head. All snakes react differently. Your feisty snake was performing for the camera. I tip the tote away after I remove the bungees, lift top from top of tote by sliding up.

Non venomous snakes on my property are left alone, they are very beneficial, many of them love to eat rodents. Venomous snakes are relocated a long way away.

Is it possible that you can slip that noose down to about 1/3 behind his head. Grab the rattlesnake I/3 length behind the head with the noose, and 'if you can, support the other 2/3 of their body with a snake hook. If they start to thrash too much, placing their head on the ground while you still have control of him in your noose should calm him down. Rattlesnakes are not used to being elevated off the ground, so get his head, at least, back on the ground and he should feel at ease. Grabbing the rattlesnake so close to the head runs a high risk of severely damaging the rattlers vertebrae should he thrash uncontrollably. If the rattlesnake thrashes too much, he will snap his own neck, NOT GOOD when we are only trying to help him. I know your intention was to release away from people and animals, but the location you chose had both? Dont you think that seeing a woman and 2 dogs was a clear indication that the spot was heavily traveled? The woman with the dogs should have beat the shit out of you, she probably didn't fully realize you were releasing a rattlesnake on her trail.
Good video by why not invest in a decent set of tongs? The snake thrashing is probably because you're hurting it. They are really pretty delicate creatures and easily injured even with tongs, especially when picking it up by the head with a noose around it's neck. I know quite a few guys that relocate snakes and most of the time they're using only a hook. Another point is in many states it's illegal to release wild animals on property other than your own with the exception being private property belonging to someone else only if you have written permission from them. Counties, states, cities and townships usually don't allow it.

Not to mention if you toss the snake's head out into the weeds where it can't hurt YOU, Something else could happen along in sort order (like you DOG) and get bit just sniffing the thing! In other words IF you kill one on purpose or accidently...DO be super careful with the carcass! There is some nasty fangs and nasty venom in those heads!

Awesome video. Just had a massive old great basin rattlesnake in my yard 3 feet from me and where the kids play. Not to mention the animals. Had to relocate it. Part of living on the side of the mountain. P.s. those side burns should be illegal lol
My Agopy like mix of a wolf and coyot and she got hit in the head was 3 days in the vets my mother called me the next state over in college crying so hard I couldn't even figure out what happened. But she lived good vets and it was really hard I think she was less intelligent but still my most loved dog she would have lived longer then 16 years healthy but some cops beat her to death in the back yard....... So true! Once you take your eyes off for a few seconds, it’s gone. There was a huge one at my house the other day. I ran inside to get my gun but it was gone by the time I came back outside. I didn’t even take long. Just long enough to get my gun and race back outside. Maybe under a minute. It was completely gone.
I went out to get my cigarettes from my car the other day and heard what I though to be a bug or something look down sure enough it was a 2 ft Rattlesnake I ran in and grabbed my gun and was able to get him thank God, as he we running toward my open car door or under my car and I may not have seen him that way, I HATE SNAKES ESPECIALLY RATTLESNAKE we get way to many up here where I live in Northern California, I find some pretty decent sized snakes biggest I think was 9 button that I personally shot

Loose the Noose. Or save it for human trespass removal. The snake gets hurt and you could get bit. Just use the hook, or two hooks. Or invest in some tongs. Pretty snake.
While I do appreciate you trying to help your local wildlife, I noticed some issues with your technique. A) please don't noose it so close to the head. It will kill itself by thrashing. Slip the noose lower on the body, and support the rest of the body with your hook. B) dont release too far from where you found it. They are highly territorial creatures, and releasing more than a mile from the point of discovery will doom the animal to a slow death. They will starve themselves trying to make it back to their territory (which is not your home most of the time).
"doom the animal to a slow death" Do you have any documentation on this? I do exactly this cause my neighbors don't like me releasing them anywhere near them. It's in the desert and I worry about them being able to find a water supply, not so much food or shelter. I release them in late afternoon which at least gives them a leg up. Any information would be appreciated!

@@antares4141 Furthermore, if you move them once, they are less than inclined to return to the area where they were harrassed, no matter how far (or not) you move them. I make sure to try to educate about making ones property less snake friendly as well, and assist with that if necessary. I.e. removing debris, water sources if possible, obtaining regular rodent control services. If there's no food, water, or hiding places, the area isn't attractive to them and they won't stick around.
You are not set up to handle a poisonous snake...........most place will Recommended a good strong wooden box that you can transport the animal in....to Another...location.....so. It’s safe for both you and the animals......and have it mark on the top Live rattlesnakes

it is not safe when your stupid a 3ft rattlesnake can strike almost 6ft that snake is around 3 or 4 feet which means it could have bit you in the face when you were relecing it ,you should of cracked the lid and walked away but usually it wouldn't strick unless it felt thretened or cornered but it still wasn't the best way to let it go.

I've caught dozens of rattlesnakes but have only had one try to strike at anything. When it struck, it tried to bite the end of the tools that I was using.
I would like to see documentation backing up your claim. My experience is they can't even strike their full body length. I've had my arms and legs well within 6' and never bit. Maybe they were just being nice to me?
Got a snake in the parking lot of walmart I got out on the passenger side and I heard someone say hay there is a snake under your car I thought.... yeah probably one of those garden snakes grass snakes. I went it and then I came out again when on my shopping to 3 other places went back to my car sat down I was talking then the little birds started to fly around like crazy I thought Ok they are trying to tell me something..... but what. I was talking then I was staring at the ground. For about 5 minutes still talking then I said to myself hay is that a diamond design then one behind it cool what is that....... HOLY SHIT SNAKE I slammed the door shut all this time I had walked by it 3 times maybe 3 inches away from it when I opened the door to the car then it looked like it wanted to get in the car with me sitting on the seat with the door open. I didn't see the snake at all what I did see was the diamonds it was on tree bark mulch. I swear that I stared at that part of the mulch for like 5 minuetes didn't see it at all. Swear. Then when I finally got out of the car thinking what if there is more I got away into the dark pavement and was watching it now moving to behind my car I ran in to tell them they had a rattle snake with the tail cut off you couldn't hear it. Then it was about 4 feet when I got back to my car I thought oh shit it got lost on me under my car no still somewhere I can't see it in the mulch no behind the bushes behind my car.... shit........ I am female so I said to God thanks to that person who helped me told me it was a snake but next time you have to scream SNAKE BITCH to piss me off so I pay attention to under my car and to the sides of my car and in back of it. I am still shocked it didn't bit me. Thanks for the video.
I applaud that IF it is an overabundant species of venomous snake ...but IF you are killing just any snake? I mean unless it is about survival, then I think it sort of sucks unless they are overpopulating or whatever ...the non venomous snakes do man such a GOOD service keeping vermin in check ....the venomous too but then I don't want them near my family and dogs etc ....by all means kill and make use of rattlesnakes but leave snakes like king and gopher snakes etc be!

This is one of the worst videos of how to catch a rattlesnake that I have ever seen!!! This is a good way to break or at the very least damage the snakes neck! just get some simple tonges!
That's why I bought a 410. For tight spaces, .40 FMJ works well. If I'm under the house, I keep a target air pistol (700 fps) handy with hunting pellets. I'd rather not shoot them, but sometimes you've got no choice.

Just keep the loop from your rope far back from its neck. If they thrash around with the rope around their neck it can break their neck.

So true! Once you take your eyes off for a few seconds, it’s gone. There was a huge one at my house the other day. I ran inside to get my gun but it was gone by the time I came back outside. I didn’t even take long. Just long enough to get my gun and race back outside. Maybe under a minute. It was completely gone.
I went out to get my cigarettes from my car the other day and heard what I though to be a bug or something look down sure enough it was a 2 ft Rattlesnake I ran in and grabbed my gun and was able to get him thank God, as he we running toward my open car door or under my car and I may not have seen him that way, I HATE SNAKES ESPECIALLY RATTLESNAKE we get way to many up here where I live in Northern California, I find some pretty decent sized snakes biggest I think was 9 button that I personally shot

You know what you're doing but still stay safe they can attack any time... you never truly know.
While I do appreciate you trying to help your local wildlife, I noticed some issues with your technique. A) please don't noose it so close to the head. It will kill itself by thrashing. Slip the noose lower on the body, and support the rest of the body with your hook. B) dont release too far from where you found it. They are highly territorial creatures, and releasing more than a mile from the point of discovery will doom the animal to a slow death. They will starve themselves trying to make it back to their territory (which is not your home most of the time).
"doom the animal to a slow death" Do you have any documentation on this? I do exactly this cause my neighbors don't like me releasing them anywhere near them. It's in the desert and I worry about them being able to find a water supply, not so much food or shelter. I release them in late afternoon which at least gives them a leg up. Any information would be appreciated!
@@antares4141 Of course! I've been handling nuisance wildlife for my communities for over a decade, and made the same mistakes before I learned better, too. This is a good source. This study focuses on species in China, but it applies to domestic species as well. I'll try to find a study focusing on domestics, but it may take a while.

@@antares4141 Furthermore, if you move them once, they are less than inclined to return to the area where they were harrassed, no matter how far (or not) you move them. I make sure to try to educate about making ones property less snake friendly as well, and assist with that if necessary. I.e. removing debris, water sources if possible, obtaining regular rodent control services. If there's no food, water, or hiding places, the area isn't attractive to them and they won't stick around.
Well that is depressing! I've probably doomed close to a dozen animals this way. I guess I'm going to have to rethink what to do in my next encounter.

OP is on the ball, really great instructional... nice job ---► But I would reiterate previous post by R3DGuitarist - "I would not recommend picking them up with the noose like that. Crotalidae (the family of rattlesnakes) have EXTREMELY sensitive neck structures, and by doing that you risk damaging them fatally especially when they thrash like that. Instead, I'd recommend "noosing" it and then supporting the back/middle end of the snake with the hook you made. It'll prevent damage to the snake, and adds more control for your safety as well."

it is not safe when your stupid a 3ft rattlesnake can strike almost 6ft that snake is around 3 or 4 feet which means it could have bit you in the face when you were
relecing it ,you should of cracked the lid and walked away but usually it wouldn't strick unless it felt thretened or cornered but it still wasn't the best way to let it go.
+Ashton Howard My experience has been that 100% of the time, once I get them into the bin, they curl up and just hang out. They may rattle a bit but they usually don't even do that. I've caught dozens of rattlesnakes but have only had one try to strike at anything. When it struck, it tried to bite the end of the tools that I was using.

I would like to see documentation backing up your claim. My experience is they can't even strike their full body length. I've had my arms and legs well within 6' and never bit. Maybe they were just being nice to me?

Got a snake in the parking lot of walmart I got out on the passenger side and I heard someone say hay there is a snake under your car I thought.... yeah probably one of those garden snakes grass snakes. I went it and then I came out again when on my shopping to 3 other places went back to my car sat down I was talking then the little birds started to fly around like crazy I thought Ok they are trying to tell me something..... but what. I was talking then I was staring at the ground. For about 5 minutes still talking then I said to myself hay is that a diamond design then one behind it cool what is that....... HOLY SHIT SNAKE I slammed the door shut all this time I had walked by it 3 times maybe 3 inches away from it when I opened the door to the car then it looked like it wanted to get in the car with me sitting on the seat with the door open. I didn't see the snake at all what I did see was the diamonds it was on tree bark mulch. I swear that I stared at that part of the mulch for like 5 minuetes didn't see it at all. Swear. Then when I finally got out of the car thinking what if there is more I got away into the dark pavement and was watching it now moving to behind my car I ran in to tell them they had a rattle snake with the tail cut off you couldn't hear it. Then it was about 4 feet when I got back to my car I thought oh shit it got lost on me under my car no still somewhere I can't see it in the mulch no behind the bushes behind my car.... shit........ I am female so I said to God thanks to that person who helped me told me it was a snake but next time you have to scream SNAKE BITCH to piss me off so I pay attention to under my car and to the sides of my car and in back of it. I am still shocked it didn't bit me. Thanks for the video.

I applaud that IF it is an overabundant species of venomous snake ...but IF you are killing just any snake? I mean unless it is about survival, then I think it sort of sucks unless they are overpopulating or whatever ...the non venomous snakes do man such a GOOD service keeping vermin in check ....the venomous too but then I don't want them near my family and dogs etc ....by all means kill and make use of rattlesnakes but leave snakes like king and gopher snakes etc be!

That's why I bought a 410. For tight spaces, .40 FMJ works well. If I'm under the house, I keep a target air pistol (700 fps) handy with hunting pellets. I'd rather not shoot them, but sometimes you've got no choice.
