Sam Westphalen
In the absence of a drummer, Sam hits his guitar a lot in an attempt to get as much music out of the instrument as possible. His UA-cam videos have reached over 500,000 views (that's over 1,000,000 eyeballs) with an overwhelmingly positive response. He can be spotted on the streets of Sydney, earning more than minimum wage by playing guitar and receiving money from generous passersby. He can also write about himself in the 3rd person when necessary.

The amount of multitasking in this video is frying my brain...
Ola Englund your cover is awesome as fuck too! -From a loyal subscriber
Came straight to the comment section looking for Ola... was not disappointed.
Fuck off. ✅
Ola, you here?
Not surprised...
I can't be the only one who actually enjoyed his vocals? They were comical. Made this pretty enjoyable
Yass.
Yes you are
Doubtful.
I love it too, it sounds like he is actually explaining the lyrics haha.
trevor mandina The vocals are just great! Very original and funny hahaha
To all that are having a go at Sam, he's a metal fan this tune Megadeth and the Slayer video were all endorsed by the bands themselves. Its just a bit of fun. Calm down. Phil himself loved this video.
Tell Sam he is awesome
it makes me sad that so many metalheads are being so narrowminded.
This guy is fucking awesome and I love his metal covers!
People who can't appreciate this, don't understand music.
Homegirl1982 at least they are not as narrowminded as all sorts of more popular music fans lol
I also plays acoustic guitar percussion! watch my videos on my channel if you like
3:23 That was probably the most hardcover metal scream I've ever heard.
i wish dime could have seen this. he would have lost it hahaha. excellent cover and mondo props at your skills dude
Live reality, it is better than dreaming of a non existing possibilities.
Dime saw many great things in his time, I'm sure.
And I hope Phil Anselmo will never see this..
@@puzza8339 it seems he watched and loved it
whispering "possessed" was the shit!
RODRIG PERCHE' SEI TU?!
MatteXDeath Io sono io e tu sei tu
il sangue che scorre nelle mie vene....
I've played guitar for over 16 years, have a UA-cam-channel where I've posted close to 500 covers and after watching this, I feel almost embarrassed to call myself a guitarist.
Great cover and amazing talent.
If you've played for 16 years, it probably wouldn't be difficult for you to pick up on guitar percussion. Once you've got down the coordination, it's not that difficult. It's like learning classical for the first time, how your thumb doesn't quite work so well with the rest of your fingers, but after a while it starts to happen on it's own accord.
Hehe. Accord. A-chord
Well, you do have a point.
The genre will not endure. It is a flash in the pan. Don't bother wasting your time trying to perfect it. It will be long gone by then.
powerface71
Yes because people havent been doing it for years right? About the same as saying in the 60's Rock and Roll is a fad
Me too
3:09 I've never heard "Like a knife into flesh" sung so happily before.
If master Dimebag was still alive he would totally dig that!
Awesome!!!
Amen, brother.
Of course he would... listen... ANYTHING guitar was loved by Dime.
doubt it. This is mostly wank and for show, it doesn't kick ass.
@@Tasmanaut like to see you try even half of what he did without tripping over yourself, do all music fans a favour and go back to the pit you came from
love his little elvis moments!!!
the solo that start in 2:16 is one of the coolest things ever been done on an acoustic guitar.
It's beautiful
Been a Pantera fan for over 20 years and this is by far the best cover of the song I've ever seen. Well done!
I love these piss poor rude complaints about the singing..
His not going to break out screaming like phil, why would he?
His vocals are more entertaining than if they weren't there at all..
And it helps us know/follow the song better..
Keep it up Sam 👏 you're a champ! 🏆👏😉
Did I compare his singing to Phil? I think my orignal remark was made re: MC Hammer.
But he's not singing
YouFeudTV good answer to all makers of anything but critices everyone and everything, that´s just envy, if you don't like... make it better, otherwise shut the fuck up your ass.
Federico Llerena respect mate.. cheers :)
Federico Llerena anytime bud
Who knew Adam Sandler can play the guitar so well.
hayleyandavril seriously.

Adam sandler does play guitar well. This guy is a guitar god
My God! 2:53! Awesome.
Wow, no replies for 5 years until now, lol
Third reply... dime number
Incredible.
I can't move this fast in any way, playing guitar or doing anything else.
So sick
3.23 that's the toughest "urgh" ever heard in metal.
Lol
That made the whole song better . Sounded like Elmer fudd sat on a tack
It's amazing that after watching such an incredible guitar player people start complaining about the "vocals" of this genious guy. Any sense of humour, guys?
i am a full blown metalhead and i think this guy is a genius, awesome work and funny as fuck also love your Slayer covers.....😁😁😁
This needs to make the rounds again. Talent!
I still pop back to watch this every now & then and it still blows my mind how good it is
holy shit bro, nice take on a classic. hearing the riff in such a different way, well done.
I LOVE THIS
The solo... the solo part always brings me back to this performance every couple of weeks.
lovin this after so many years, my ears keep bring me back.....
I fucking love this, the vocals- the guitar , the everything
I'm proud to go to uni and to be surrounded by people like this everyday :)
I’m still so impressed by this guy and entertained by his voice and facial expressions. I remember coming across this probably 6 years ago and I still think about it. Every now and then I rewatch this
I can't overstate how much I do Sam's vocal styles with so many songs when I'm just goofing around and enjoying so many metal songs.
Dimebag Darrel would have been proud if he was still here to witness the creativity this guy possesses. Keep it up buddy 🤘
Come on, tubers. How could this be anything but complementary.
Sam, you're freaking amazing.
Requests ; CLAP or Jerry was a race car driver
one of my favourite pantera tunes, nicely done...
Seriously, you are an amazing and gifted musician. I love how you have fun with what you do, and I feel like in the end, that's what playing music is all about!
The internet is such a double edged sword. It provides a place for amazing musicians like this guy to put his work out there, and then it also provides a place where total ass wipes can be negative and idiotic for no real reason.
Yes. And he can perform for nothing for you. You so appreciated him. But let me guess. Had you paid him even 1 cent? I guess not. Comment is all you can. Power
Negative nancys
I am amazed. Honestly I've never seen a musician do beat and guitar at the same time. That's just the least. This is just. Wow
The second time I watch this before my school starts. I have a habit of making beats too much c:
Go watch the cover of Teardrop that Newton Faulkner does in an elevator. Im not sure if he started this style but he was certainly one of the earlier guys to do it on youtube.
Hey I'm a potato in disguise shhh good bye brother
Haaaaa gaaaaaaaaay
Antifaith29 No, he didn't start this style. People have been playing like this since ancient times.
One of the most impressing things I have ever seen...
Simply great!!!!
Absolutely amazing!!!
To all who complain about the vocals: Frank Zappa and Lou Reed, because good music totally has to be serious.
I seen this a few yrs back and find myself singing in this style to this song now when I hear it 😂😂😂
Now l've seen it all. Beautiful, bravo!
This takes an enormous amount of talent to listen to each and every one of those instruments to put together to play on one single instrument. If people can hate on this, they will hate on anything online.
the vocals are so fucking brutal.
I approve of this vieo
Almost.
That “hah” at the and is winning all my respect, laughter, and happines! Thx
I never thought in my life would I hear this done this way... Headbang, laugh, chuckle and think.. hey this could be a pg kids lesson at the same time. PURE TALENT!!!!!!! the HARMONICS!!!
2:52 oh my gooooooooooooooooooooooooooood
reallly kickass version. I was sceptical at first but.... very cool;)
7 years and this is still one of my favorite vids on YT
Still the best cover out there.
Fucking awesome, guitar playing lvl 100
Anyone that good at playing guitar can sing however the fuck he wants!
Thanks for sharing these moments. Very nicely made and entertaining! I hope you had at least half the fun of producing your videos/covers as I had while watching them. Thank you and have a healthy and good time!
Mad skills, but found the goofiness and uniqueness of the lyrics and showmanship the icing on the cake. Brilliant.
I wonder what it would sound like if he would take the vocals more seriously. I understand that this is just all for good fun but I can't help but wonder what it would sound like. The guitar playing is out of this world, I think some nice vocals would really make it perfect.
Yeah, well, that's just like your opinion man.
You're easily annoyed, aren't you?
***** I agree with him...there was no need for that assumption, and was really out of the blue; he meant no such thing
You know, to be honest I really don't know what Cnut was so upset about.. In my opinion I didn't say anything to provoke the cranky reaction that he gave me. So I decided to be a dick.Cnut, if you're still following all this: Why so grumpy man? All I said was that I would like to hear this with some more seriously recorded vocals. I honestly don't see how you could take that the wrong way.
Luuk D your comment made me happy,
did you quote the Big Lebowski?
Adam Sandler and the guitar
Thank god I wasn't the one who saw that.
I´ve been watching this video since it was uploaded and i get stunned the same way each year i see it
For the record, I think his voice is fucking fine. I will agree that it seems nonsensical and doesn't fit the "metal" aspect, it being a Pantera song, but if anyone watches other things by him he's clearly not a tard. Instead he's not a metal singer, or he accepts it anyway whereas he doesn't growl, and not to mention it is an acoustic cover so that would be out of place regardless. All in all, it comes down to Sam having fun. He knows he's fucking good, and if he wants to sing, then fuck it. It adds a bit of tongue and cheek character to the crazy upbeat energy that's starkly different from the tone of the original due to it being an acoustic cover and all the other little tweaks within it.
This is like Mr. Bungle covering Pantera or something :D
If this were a Mr. Bungle cover we'd have to start with a circus version of the the guitar riff and have it suddenly turn to blast beat jazz and then make the chorus clean 🤣
love the playing and LOVE the singing
Absolutely amazing performance! Million thumbs up!
Isn't it strange that Tobuscus and Sam look alike?
Excelente. Some of Metallica now!
Man you have blown my frickin mind! You are amazingly talented!
Best cover I've seen of this
Actually every video of his that doesn't include "singing" really feels off after seeing this.
I know that he plays very well and stuff, but.... I'm surprised there's no meme about his facial expressions.
A lot of metal guys aren't into memes.
mkfanforever58 Who says that he's the one who will make a meme about him? Maybe some random guy who doesn't even really into metal is going to come and make a meme.
+Skarba
I'm saying metal heads (people who are going to watch this video) most likely aren't a fan of memes.
this guy is amazing this is some of the best guitar/percussion music ive heard and the eye movements and facial expressions make it hilarious! this is truly beautiful!
Simply incredible.
The 4th Doctor plays Pantera. Weird.
So its not just me! Is it strange that was the first thing I thought of when I saw this video?
1:18 funny
This is so unbelievably good and also thorough. Great job!
Great cover, not heard anyone smash metal tunes percussively on an acoustic. Totally keeps the original spirit of the song
225 people understood NOTHING about music.
Good technique but sounds goofy when singing.
i can agree it sounds a bit odd
i think its on purpose :D
maybe he wants be goofy... in the world there is also the sense of humor
almost as goofy as Pantera.
This is amazing, I can't even... just 'wow'.
I truly love this cover!
please stop singing
Levi clothier
ow that really hurt me haha
lein garcia wut i was talking to powerface?
lein garcia You said it. Oh man my ears hurt. :(
I can't stop watching this man !
You were the first percussive guitarist I ever saw back years ago. Your amazing dude
brutal even unplugghed !!! great job man !
INCREDIBLE !! WELL DONE !!!
Love this. This man can play like a champ.
Just Amazing!!
I love your guitar work!!
You're incredibly gifted, and this style of guitar playing is criminally underrated. Bravo!
Jesus dude you are right off the charts. Amazing!!
I’ve been looking for this for soooo long
What a great version!!!!
Just too good. Love it!
Ingeniously! Bravo!
The most unique cover I have ever seen. You are so talented.
Loving your work! Such amazing talent!
the "UGH" at 3:22 is aboslutely awesome, I love this guy's work!
Amazing skill! Love it.
this is my favorite pantera song. nice job man!
"I'm screaming revenge again."- Literally the most calm and innocent voice i've ever heard.
This is truly amazing man Keep up the good work!!
@Samwestphalen That's gold! I love it bro!
man...the amount of satisfying clicking and percussive noises this guy makes is really amazing and above all impressive. Really enjoyed the video , big thumbs up!
Wow! That is so awesome! Love it!!
almost a Les Claypool quality with the way you deliver the vocals. I love that percussive element. Friggin awesome!
