A heavy metal classic done on the ol' acoustic geetar. RIP Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott. Still remember the day I heard the news about Dime's passing, a heavy blow for sure as I was just discovering Pantera's music around that time. It's still some of my favourite heavy music ever.
"Cemetery Gates" was written by Pantera and released in 1990 on their debut album Cowboys From Hell.
*** I’m very much aware that many guitar parts and compositional elements of this arrangement are quite different from the original. I’m working from memory and my own internal relationship with the song which results in obvious differences sometimes. I improvise, change notes, section lengths, vocal parts, even lyrics sometimes and I'm not afraid to do that. I’m not learning these parts from tabs or trying to make it exact to the original, I’m interpreting and adapting the arrangement for my own purposes to create something new or to suit my performance. It’s okay if you don’t prefer it. Stating it’s wrong is such a strange concept to me though because music is never wrong. When we think music is wrong we become closed minded which is creatively regressive and ultimately unhelpful. Something to consider. Thanks for watching, liking (or disliking) and commenting!

Who else here is thankful that UA-cam recommended to them this gem of a cover?!!
Me
Just got the recommendation too. Happy about it
🙋♂
Right here. Wow
The algorithm brought people together again. Howdy friends.
The difficulty to pull this off both musically and vocally is unprecedented. This guy deserves a Grammy for this IMHO.
I agree. Hopefully he never sells his soul, to a fucking record label. 👍🏼👊🏼✌🏼
@@LJCountry88 sadly that's the only way he will ever get anywhere as a Musician. It's a tough business
agree
So clean. As a diehard pantera fan and bad guitarist of 30 years this blows my mind.
Spot on - this is sooo hard to do
I'm 17, my car is packed full of friends and we're riding back roads, smoking a joint, cheap beer.... this album just dropped and I bought it, we were blown away by cowboys from hell!!. Nostalgia
sounds like heaven bro
Hell yes
Lol!! I was definitely doing the same exact thing back in the 90s in another town far from yours at the same time😂😂 👍
Right there.
🔥🌲💨 🤘🤘
Holy 💩 dude. I clicked this because I’ve never seen an all acoustic version of this song done before. But I did NOT expect this level of crispyness. This was incredible my man.
In my 32 years of life and 22-23 of those being a devoted and passionate music lover and and musician myself.... I never thought in my life I would ever hear a completely acoustic version of any Pantera song... let alone Cemetery Gates. This is one hell of an amazing performance Corey! 👏 much love and respect man! This has to be honestly one of your best performances in my opinion. Your vocals are so haunting and dark over top of those killer dimebag guitar riffs... it is truly phenomenal and something otherworldly 🖤🤟😎🤘🖤
Thanks so much Worm 🙏
@@coreyheuvel Thank you for sharing 🙏 ❤️ 😊
Very unexpected which I love, shows your range and diversity. What I like most is that you illustrate how Pantera always had much more depth as songwriters beyond thrash metal. Don't get me wrong, I love their music as-is, just saying your performance gives a different window into their creativity. I'd love to hear what Phil would comment here..
Blessing u for this version...

@@coreyheuvel how do you go from playing capricho arable to shitty sublime
One take, one camera, no cuts, no edits: the true mark of talent. 👍 A worthy tribute to the legendary song, and a job well done.
No way to know how many takes it was...
@@joelburlingame5693It is one take, meaning that it is not a composite of the best bits of many takes edited together. It is not necessarily the first take, but it is one take. 🍻
@@skriabinfly I do understand that, thanks.
@@joelburlingame5693 really out here trying to discredit a fully acoustic version of cemetery gates like it's not one of the most insane things we've ever heard 😂 this dudes a monster no matter how many trys it took ya goof
@tdogg6117 I didn't mean it that way. I was just saying that it wasn't necessarily the first take. Certainly it was an awesome piece. No need to call names.

This is incredible. I think this is the best acoustic cover of anything I have ever seen . This is brutally difficult to pull off.
Probably one of the best acoustic covers in history...
agree
I just finished saying basically the same thing before reading this.
Uh...no!
Damn son, it takes massive balls to attempt a Pantera Cover at all let alone an acoustic one for two obvious reasons. 1. Phil has one of the most epic metal voices, timber and range and 2. Dimebag, i mean he's buried with a guitar Gods own priceless guitar ffs. This is AMAZING, seriously amazing and needs to be shown to the world. You have a new fan and subscriber for life.
It’s rare to find an acoustic cover of a metal song that’s 10/10 on the instrument and 10/10 on the vocal performance. I can’t criticize anything about it. It’s unique yet stays true to the original and hits the important parts with perfection. 🎉bravo dude!🎉 1:51
Acoustic covers of metal songs are great! ua-cam.com/video/SkMNrOsTuRU/v-deo.htmlsi=vRaiUidUEqgF_BQS
I am not the biggest Pantera fan but Corey's acoustic version makes it clear how great this song is. Great job!
Are you kidding me?!?!?! I clicked this just for a general idea of how to play this song on acoustic guitar but I nearly dropped my phone. You did this song justice!
Can’t believe you made such a heavy song sound so good on just an acoustic guitar, even got Dimebag Darrel’s solo. Impressive!
I’m a year late on this one, but in all honesty this is one of the most perfect acoustic covers of any song I’ve heard. True to the original, yet enough changes to make the arrangement fit the instrument. Vocals are excellent and carry the emotion of Phil, yet blend into an acoustic version perfectly. Truly, that was perfect
Amen.
If youtube recommended this to you, you're a legend. This cover is great!
Easily the best Pantera acoustic cover I ever listened on Internet, goddamn awesome. THANK YOU!
I agree totally
As a huge Pantera fan, I just want to say thank you. You did this song justice times a thousand. Dime just gave devil horns and a huge smile on high. Thank you.
best cover in the history of covers .... id bet my bottom dollar on this.. like this comment if you agree
Corey Heuvei is not just a musician who's cracked the key to the gates, he's also a gigachad who shared the TABS!! Thank you brother and awesome cover!!
where are the TABS?
Yes……where might these tabs be?
Gigachad, stealing it! and will be looking for the TABS
Share the link to the tab please
Dudes look at the About and description of the video lol 😂
Wherever he is now.. Dimebag is surely smiling at you.. outstanding version! You are great
Beyond words…. The best acoustic version of this tune, EVER!!! Congratulations!
This is easily one of the greatest acoustic covers of any song ever holy crap I am blown away. When the main solo reached and he outlined the melody perfectly while still playing the como chords fuck me that was great
THIS MAN IS PURE TALENT!
No pure skill and passion
im sitting here for easily the 100th time watching this. goosebumps. the pick strumming on the chord fast chord progression is literally mind boggling. i can not play that.. what is this magic
I feel like I owe you money for listening to this. Nice progression. Perfect.
Ok my jaw is still on the floor. That was over the top. Total talent and dedication. Every bit of this song acoustically was well played and the singing was amazing I hope every Pantera fan out there shares this in memory of Dime and Vinnie ❤
You Rock🤘
Dude I mirror the sentiment!! Holy fuck… best cover I’ve heard and it’s even on acoustic.
This is a cover masterclass. Stripped down and put together with enough original elements, yet adapted to accoustic and made your own. Brilliant.
For once UA-cam gave me a great recommendation. I'm going to pass this video on to my friends!
DIME WOULD BE IMPRESSED WITH YOU! playing one the most iconic written guitar riffs ever while singing is insane. just watched this 20 times
I love the confidence he gives me to hit those high notes while singing with him.. alone in my car.. LMAO.. amazing job man.
Corey, this is just what I needed today. As a Texas boy, Pantera was such a huge part of my childhood, and this was a beautiful rendition that would make Dime and Vinnie proud. RIP to the Abbott brothers, we miss you every day. I would love to see you do Floods, especially for the solo and outro, I think you would kill it, and i feel it would translate to acoustic well. Keep doing what you do.
Thanks so much Eric! Love Floods too 🤘
Representing Texas Bois too Eric, killer performance as always Corey, badass.
@@coreyheuvel this would be awesome
Holy shit !!! This is awesome
This is incredible how this guy sings and play the same time with ease
A wonderful rendition of this song. I have to admit that it brought a tear to my old eyes.
This is in my top five all-time favorite songs.. never thought it would make for a good Acoustic Song.. you certainly prove that it does. FU*KING OUTSTANDING!!!
Thanks Erik 🙏
@@coreyheuvel Very good cover, man!
F***ing gold, man. That solo arrangement was so delightful. Amazing.
I keep coming back to this cover almost on a daily base.. Then I don't listen to it for some time, until I go on and just listen to music randomly on UA-cam and always come across this masterpiece.. A true piece of art.
Would be so amazing if this would be on your Spotify!
I would 100% add it to some of my most played lists. It is just sooooo good!
Dude you knocked this out of the park. Beautiful
I would pay good money to see this guy in concert!
Same here
We (Fan Forum) have been wanting that for a long time.
Not gunna lie, Ive been coming back to this video since its came out and ive not gotten tired of it. As a die hard Pantera fan, this has been the coolest cover I have ever heard of their songs. The fact you did a rendition of Dime's ELECTRIC GUITAR solo on a ACOUSTIC,is amazing! This will be a video people will come back to listen to for a long time. Great job dude!
I’m glad you didn’t lie
I watch at least once a week lol
This video received the highest compliment I can give: I texted it to my best friend who is also a guitar player.
This is it. This is the cover that all covers wish they could be. Super impressed.
Agreed
Please don’t stop being innovative and discovering new ways to breath life into well loved songs.
Wow. I couldn't help but cry listening to you perform this song. Cemetery Gates is so incredibly powerful, and you hold and capture Phil and Dime's emotions in this perfect song. Way to pay tribute and honor this song in this way. Thank you so much for this, and love to you, and PANTERA forever.
Dude... Sooooo good. I got chills, music doesn't make me do that often anymore
Man, I’m speechless. This is brutal! Nicely done mate!!
Man, I have been listening to people try to cover this song for the past 20 years and I have never heard anybody do it so naturally
Yeah. They all seem a lot worse now.
Not only is it unbelievable that this amazing human could replicate this song so beautifully, but it is also unbelievable that a group of men put all of these sounds together in the first place. Absolute perfection on both ends!
As a fellow musician myself that has been playing 25+ years, and I must say this is an absolutely impeccable spin and flawless performance on an astonishingly beautiful, emotionally charged, technique drenched piece, fretted and picked with effortless smoothness that you showcased using the platform of a cover in a different style and sound than the epic original...then to too it all off, you sang it simultaneously, which was also flawless. Kudos my guy! You've earned my respect and attention, as I subscribed immediately after the video came to an end.
I've always been very curious as to why a fellow music lover would listen to something as well done and beautifully executed as this version of one of the greatest works in Heavy Metal history just to be a dickhead. The fact that it's an emotional song soaked with feelings of an intense experience makes the cover choice even more spectacular. I honestly think those haters are just jealous of the fact that they're nowhere near the level of talent that you possess, Trolls, arrogant, ignorant, or all of the above to be delusional enough to deem your creativity "wrong" (that one really irks me) just because it's not a note for note cover. Even if it is isn't suited to their personal taste, they can at least give you some props on the skills.
Its sad that so many people out there are so quick to dismiss and condemn others styles and practices/methods...ultimately in the long run, this behavior just makes the more impressionable beginner twice as timid and unwilling to experiment with alternative approaches/methods to pre-existing music when attempting any cover song with alternate notation. Sadly those beginners benefit the most from some encouraging words, and mostly affecting beginning musicians positively is CONstructive musical criticism, and it's rare to see. Some of my greatest original works started with alternative methods playing an existing song of personal influence.
Excellent summary of what many have said. But the best part is where you bring up beginners that would be eaten up by trolls. If someone can criticize this incredible performance, the beginners don’t stand a chance. Thanks for posting.
That pinch harmonic riff sounded pretty sick on the acoustic ngl.... you even nailed the voice ma guy🙌🏻
There are no harmonics used in the entire song?? Timestamp pls
@@arealtaldarim7048 Have you ever heard the original? The riff starting at 1:26 in Corey's version is done with pinch harmonics in the original, but Corey's on an acoustic so it's almost impossible to replicate. @Aditya Kar was just pointing out how Corey still managed to make it sound good even on acoustic.
@@Cold_Toes_ that's right
Damn. This is clean af. One of the best covers I've seen of anything
I never imagined an acoustic version of Pantera. This is freakin awesome. Much respect.
DUUUUUDE!!!! Fkn perfection
Caralho.. foda demais
Eu tô com 37 anos e decidi começar aprender violão definitivamente, e quero aprender pra um dia poder fazer um dom desse, dessa qualidade.
Obrigado por compartilhar isso cara!
This is my favourite pantera song, I thought it was not possible to do an acoustic version of this song because the song is a liitle bit too brutal to be on acoustic, I guess I was wrong...
This version is absolutely mind blowing, you killed it, congratulations, you're a fantastic musician.
Já perdi a conta de quantas vezes ouvi esse cover... Simplesmente incrível!
This is hands down one of the best covers i have ever heard and seen. 🫡
I’d like to point out the lack of crossfades/transitions into different sections of the song. As someone just getting into recording covers, I can really, really respect and appreciate the amount of skill and dedication that goes into recording this in a single take. Imagine you’re 5 minutes in and goof a part of the solo. Time to start over. Or 6 minutes in and your voice cracks.
Aside from it sounding awesome, you really gotta appreciate that level of skill and dedication demonstrated.
All these years later this song still gives me goosebumps when I hear it. Excellent cover, sounds great on acoustic.
What an unbelievably brilliant performance. You even nailed the final falsetto cry - I'm blown away.
Rarely do we see someone perform so passionately with faultess chording and timing. You have a wonderful gift. Please keep sharing.
Sole display of so much talent for straight 7 minutes !! No cuts. Just riffs and powerful vocals 💯
Bro... lifelong Pantera fan here. This cover was awesome. I love the way you transposed the solo. Great job, man.
the solo was super epic I agree. wasn't expecting that :P
One of the best covers I've ever heard, period. Arrangement and vocals are otherworldly. At a loss for words, honestly...I'm completely blown away.
I dont have the words dude.I heard this Pantera song many years ago.And still one of the best songs for me.Your cover is a technical challenge as you nail ALL parts, but moreover it sounds good and gave me chills. So thank you🙏🙏🙏
You have fully made this song your own here. Honestly well done this was so enjoyable to watch.
Sou brasileiro, adoro pantera e rock no geral, mais essa performance do corey eu amei muito.
Grande talento ele tem e sim ele possui vários fans pelo mundo a fora
Incredible cover!!! Definitely didn’t expect you to do this one!
Whoa dude. Wtf just happened! Best acoustic cover of any song ever covered. 🎸🥳
This is probably the best metal to acoustic cover I've ever heard. Props dude!!!
It takes so much talent and dedication to achieve acoustic covers with such quality, complexity and loyalty to the original song as yours Corey. What an amazing performance! Keep up the work! We love what you do 😁
Duuude. This is just one of the best Pantera covers (and acoustic covers on overall) I've ever heard in my life. Hands down. You rule. ¡Saludos a toda la raza de Guadalajara! 🇲🇽
The best of the century
Unreal and Dime is smiling for sure !
Absolutely stunning mate. Well done. You are something special
Freakn’ sick, man. The voice and the guitar skill is just something to be admired.
Dude, I am just in awe at your cover of what is one of my favorite songs. You really nailed this!
Just awestruck.
There's a lot of heart put into this performance. It's beautiful.
Corey. That was effin amazeballs. That’s honestly one of the best covers of a metal song I’ve ever heard. Your voice and playing are damn near perfect. Thank you for sharing…. Sometimes I do love the algorithm… when it gives me gifts like this.
I have lost words to praise your abilities. Thank you for your music ❤️ If it's worth anything, yours is the only UA-cam channel for which I have the bell notification on 😊
I love your attention to detail and your passion & guitar skills. Unbelievable & amazing. This is a beautiful version of a unique song. Thank you
Bro. 👏🔥 I've watched this about 10 times now. Killer.
Dude... this video gave me freakin' tears in my eyes! Such a powerful performance.
This is by far the best I've seen. You made it your own. Dime is smiling from heaven ❤️
The best thing about music, people covering, creating their own feel of a song or own music. This randomly shows up on my feed. Awesome job!
You did not disappoint. Bravo friend. That made my day❤
Since this was released in your channel, I have listened to this on repeat. Obsessively. I didn’t know pantera could sound like this on an acoustic Martin. Kudos to you, you have earned yourself yet another patreon student, and a loyal admirer. I have experienced most of your stuff uploaded in UA-cam, but this is the one for me. Stuff for infinite repetitions and sharing. Thanks for making this brilliant cover.
Wow.
Never heard of this original song. Never heard of this guy, whatsoever. I just seen a guitar and, I, myself, love the guitar🤘🏼 so clicked on it to watch it. Guys. After realizing how hard it would be able to play that song, mind blown. And he fricking played it like it was nothing!! 🤯🤯 Oh, I’d for sure pay to get guitar lessons from this guy. TALENT. 🙌🏼
Total badass right there...What an amazing cover and voice. Thanks!!
what an amazin work you put here, sir!!
good job!!
when this dude is going camping, and sitting around the campfire and takes out the guitar and start play and sing, he already knows he will not sleep alone😅wow thats was superbly
Wow, this is a diamond in the rough. Sick rendition, great voice.
Your vocals at the end sent shivers down my spine, true music is meant to be felt!
Making what I would call "lonely notes" fit perfectly is what I noticed. Truly an amazing job
Absolutely killed it, brother. I've waited a lot of years for a full acoustic cover of this song. You kept it true to the original, but the acoustic rendition really brings out the beauty in the melodies and harmonies of this song.
That was epic. Probably the best acoustic version of a metal song ever.
Awesome bro! Absolutely blown away by your performance.
Hell F@ck yeah !!! That was bad ass !! 53 years old Pantera fan from when they payed 50 fan shows. Mad respect !!!
