I've immensely enjoyed following you along on this walk. COVID willing I am planning on coming to Australia in December to visit my daughter and follow in your footsteps. Thanks.
Hi Robert. Thanks very much for saying so and I'm glad this series has helped inspire you to try this hike yourself. Hope you can get out on the GSWW soon!
So close now! In sand I don't even bother trying to use tent pegs ... I find a few foot-long thumb-width sticks and bushcraft myself some huge wooden stakes and drive them in at least 2/3 their length. So far that's worked for my trekking pole tent, although I've only been in 20ish kmph winds with it... actually the soggy forest floor as a storm came through was harder to keep it pitched well... bushcraft stakes to the rescue on that occasion too! Did anyone else end up arriving and wondering about the shelter in the shelter?
Some bushcrafting would probably have been the way to go. I had been resigning myself at one point to just sleeping on the bench or the sand underneath the shelter as a last option. 😂
Haha, yeah it wasn’t a bad place to make an error like that because the views once you get to the top of the cliffs are incredible. It made up for all the additional cuts and scratches I added to my legs as I unnecessarily bashed through the coastal scrub looking for the trail. 😂
G'day from QLD. Hope i can give good advice for you. Have a look on ebay and you will find sand pegs. The sand pegs have an thred around the peg so you wind the peg into the ground and they will not come out so easly, and remember the peg has to be unwinded to be removed. Not too sxpensive, so i hope you will take a look at that and consider buying a set for your futer hiking trips. By the way, nicely made vedios. Gerard.
Hi Gerard. Thanks for the tip regarding the sand pegs. I'll definitely have to have a look into those. Thanks also for the feedback about the videos. Much appreciated!

Great idea to camp under the shelter, must keep that one in my growing novice bag of ideas👌🏕
Had to get creative that day with the weather and environment against me!
hahaha epic tent pitch there!
but man, I cannot get over the views! Even making a nav error on there looks good haha

Good to know about google maps for hiking.... that’d be something I’m sure I would do.... not now that I’ve been forewarned though!
Yes, definitely don't rely on them. They can be reasonably accurate but clearly not 100% accurate as I found out that day!
