Thanks for this review, I thought of ordering one in the near future. The price looked so tempting ! Will now go for the Windpilot, which still is way lower priced then an Aries or a Hydrovane. Sadly, those wonderful units have reached prices outside of my capabillities.
All the corrosion on this windvane seems to have accured due to inadequate material pairing. Things like that shouldn't happen after just 1000 miles . I sailed with a near forty years old Aries about 20.000 miles and it looked and worked like a new one. Lately I bought a Windpilot Pacific Light for my new 27' boat and I'm quite confident that it woun't give me any issues for decades.
Warranty is a form of guarantee that a manufacturer offers to repair or replace a faulty product within a window of time after purchase. Did you contact them???
Why do you expect the vane to hold you to a compass course? It can only hold a course relative to the wind direction. Winds in the Gulf Stream shift 10 or 15 degrees all the time, and the vane will follow that shift. Only an autohelm can hold your boat on a compass course.
Thanks for this - another one crossed off the list!
Thank you. Very useful information.

You had the 440 where you could have gone smaller.
How has it held up for you?
Thank you
Seems like a lot of problems. I was looking to get one of these. Good price but looks like I'd get what I pay for. Thanks for the info.

Yep, I think I mention this in the video. It made it impossible to remove the hardware for storage after our Atlantic crossing.
