  • After the original engine failed on us this summer (if you haven't seen the video you should!), we knew we needed to fix it somehow. When we came across a "pristine" 1.9TDK engine (AAZ), we had to try something we knew nothing about; changing out the engine of an old van! Along the way we have learned so much and need to thank our friends for helping out and showing us all the best tricks and tips as we went about doing this. Huge thanks to Rikard, Einar and Per, you are the best😊
    I'm sorry the channel have been quiet lately, it's has been hard to provide solid content with the current lockdown in Norway.

    Don't forget to angle the pump for the diesel heater to avoid trapped air. It's also worth using/making a rubber mount to reduce noise from the pump. I used a couple off rubber exhaust mounts and it has made a Big difference.

    Very inspiring! Brings back memories from the days I had a similar VW. Now a different one but a diesel heater setup like yours. That is why I suggest two mods. 1) the exhaust pipe should be bent downwards and it cannot have a horizontal part in the middle. Otherwise you end up in trouble with a frozen pipe. The heter will not start or it will stop working when you least expect it. Also a silencer in the exshaust pipe is something you will want to install after having used it once.
    2) take the fresh air to the heater from outside the car. That will keep the car interior dry and helps in getting fresh air in.
    I have experienced a frozen exhaust pipe when it was -25C outside. It does not make one laugh.

    Great progress guys, I was wondering how you were getting on with the install. Love the garage banter with your friends too, they're really funny!! You can get an exhaust muffler (silencer) for the heater that will make it quieter and also I'm not sure if you have one or not but where the fuel pump for the heater is fitted it should have a rubber damper to absorb shock and it'll also be quieter when you're trying to sleep. When it's running you get a steady tick, tick, tick from the pump and if it's not rubber mounted it sounds really loud. Can't wait to see it all up and running you've both done a great job

      @SimonBraeck  3 роки тому

      Pretty stoked about the effort put in last weekend, lots of things went down and we learned new stuff each day. Thank you for the tips regarding the heater, it didn't come with a muffler even though I have seen they are common for others. Will have a look into your suggestions, thanks!

    Wow what great friends and heart warming story. My son recently purchased a Westy from a dealer who really took advantage of him and sold him a car that is dangerous to drive. He had plans to travel the U.S. and may now have to sell the Van because he really cannot afford the repair bills. Are you in a garage that can be rented to DIY's or do you know someone that owns the garage where you installed the engine? Trying to convince my son to reach out to the community to see if he can find some like minded people to help. Keep up the wonderful videos and safe travels to you and your friends.

      Finally we managed to find a garage where we could lift Norris up! Feels good to have it installed. The heater might even be too warm at times, they are really efficient and warms up the space really fast. I really wanna try out the new setup on a snowy, winter day, but I’m a bit worried about our bad tires and the salt on the roads. Not sure if it’s worth rust on the van. We’ll see, there are some limitations in place because of Covid. The spring/summer will be busy with the van, that’s for sure :)

    Hei, Interessante Methode einen Motor einzubauen.! Normal wir der Motor vorher Komplett Zusammen gebaut , Also Zahnriemen wird Richtig zur Motorsteuerung montiert und die Einspritzpumpe "grob" das heißt, innerhalb der Verstellmöglichkeiten der Langlöcher an dem Pumpenflansch vormontiert. Die genaue Einstellung finde dann bei eingebautem Motor mit Hilfe der Spez.Werkzeuge statt.
    Hei, interessant metode for å installere en motor! Normalt er motoren ferdig montert på forhånd, så tannremmen er riktig montert på motorstyringen og injeksjonspumpen er "omtrent" forhåndsmontert innenfor justeringsmulighetene til de langstrakte hullene på pumpeflensen. Den nøyaktige innstillingen skjer da med motoren installert ved hjelp av spesialverktøyene.
    Noch viel Spaß mit eurem Bully!

      Thanks! We need to sort out some bad winter tires and I’m a bit worried about all the salt on the Norwegian roads now, exposing Norris for rust issues going forward. We need to do some considerations when he is fully ready and see how the weather behaves. Would love a really snowy winter escape for a weekend or so! At least -20 would be doable, the heater will warm up the van in minutes. Hoping the diesel engine will be willing to start the following morning, haha🥶

      Hi! Sure, that’s what we wanted actually. We ended up not doing it because we wanted it done quickly, we’ve been wanting a diesel heater for ages. It would have required a custom case/box to keep it protected from the elements. This would have complicated it further, so we decided to do it the easy way afterall🤷🏼‍♂️
