  • First of all...... I apologize for the ice on the camera. Filming in the winter outside is always a challenge. Hope you still find it useful.
    Today we are out on the Chippewa Flowage in Hayward, Wisconsin ice fishing for crappies. If you target crappies on flowages this should be a very helpful video. I talk about fish locations and how to get on fish on these expansive shallow water lakes. Jigging stacks of crappies through the ice is always a blast.

    Find most UA-cam fishing personalities annoying. Love your channel! I’m a Florida boy who dreams about ice fishing and living up north. One day these videos will be very useful!

    Tom, great video. The ice on the camera lens is a bit annoying, but thats winter fishing. Does your camera have any kind of lens shroud/cover to protect it from bad weather? I will echo Jason's comment below as well about watching the bite as it happens. You could do a segment that shows just what that subtle bite looks like on the rod tip. Obviously you want to set the hook when they bite, but if you want to show us what the bite looks like, let them bite it and don't set the hook right away. Or maybe you can slow the recording down at that point to help illustrate what the bite looks like on the rod tip itself. Also, do you do any filming with an underwater camera that shows the bite as it is happening under water? A lot of crap to set up I know, but all of this is just so helpful for us to watch.

    Just ordered the carbon x 2000 for big Manitoba walleye this spring. 33lbs of drag is pretty damn good.

    Ive heard of some guys going out to ice fish at a reservoir that the water level is managed for flood control. and changes all the time. They drilled the hole to find that the water water about 10' below the ice. Spooky. Ice was thick enough, but that is spooky.

    Question for you. Do you have better hook sets when you drop your rod before setting the hook? I have noticed that in a few of your vids. Thx

    Thanks Tom! I have 4 boys and they love these beaver dam rods and i just bought the piscifun carbon x reel. for some reason the code didnt work but thats ok.
    question. we fish a flowage but the basin is 50-70 ft deep then steep breaks to 30 ish feet with humps to 17-20 feet. You wouldnt fish the basin in 50-70 right? i have been fishing the shallower humps in 20ft and doing well with big gills but not the crappies yet.

    • @TomBoley
      @TomBoley  4 роки тому

      I drill alot of holes. Generally several tanks of gas a day. My trust in electric is not 100%.

    • @ripptydevibes2581
      @ripptydevibes2581 4 роки тому

      Yeah, we just converted to a pistol setup mainly due to our 50cc auger being a back breaker which seemed to prevent us from drilling more holes. We will see how we like the pistol setup.

    TOM, IS THERE A REASON YOU DONT USE YOUR HELIX AS YOUR FLASHER?

    • @kevindrake4001
      @kevindrake4001 4 роки тому

      Wade Ottman. Tom might say differently, but for a pure flasher application, vexilar, marcum, etc... are far superior to the graphs for real time action. Myself and several friends used to use our graphs for ice fishing, but the flashers are so much simpler, the battery life is better, the only draw back is no maps, but as Tom has shown, there are ways around that.
