- Today we are ice fishing for basin crappies in the Northwoods! Everybody loves basin crappies....when you find them there is generally a lot of them and they can be very aggressive. In this video I talk about how and where we find crappies when ice fishing. I also talk about one of my favorite new ice fishing lures....the Acme Slingblade Tungsten Jig. Good stuff Tom. Can you do an episode on how you organize gear for transport and storage to optimize efficiency and protection? for example rod cases, minnow bucket, tackle box organization, power and propane storage etc.

Dang Tom you guys have hardly no snow out on your lakes. Since Christmas in Fargo the snow hasn’t stopped for the past month so heavy slush conditions on most med size lakes here in ND. Tuff conditions here fish are very negative this midwinter time having to hit a lot of different lakes and checking for slush and safe ice…been traveling to SD to escape all this heavy snow in Fargo ND. I’m going to continue grinding it out last year at this time my freezer was full of fish but this year in mid winter just happy to find and catch a fish

Good to see the slingblade nabbing fish, just picked one up today not realizing the hook moved like that. I just grabbed it cuz it looked cool. Got it in a wonderbread color.

Great video. I also bought all 8 colors of them a few weeks ago. We don’t have safe ice here in Indiana just yet. But I can’t wait to get out and try to new sling blades.

I was gonna pick some sling blades up, but i just feel like you're more likely to lose fish with the way the hook pivots.

I stopped buying the original Kastmasters due to the cheap treble hooks breaking too easily. Did they fix this on those and do the tungsten's have better quality trebles?

Nice job on this video! One question that I have for you is: do you tend to find most crappie in the center of the basin? Or closer to an edge? I drilled out an area yesterday around the edge of one side of the basin. I found a few fish suspended but they were not biting.

My lakes all are clear and most basins are over 40 feet. There are no weed flats. Just weed edges from 5- 20 feet all the way around the lake
What is your preferred choice of line when you hole hop outside the shack like that for crappies or walleyes??

Mitch, tried and true technique, drill a hole 2 foot from your buddy, lol.
It works on open water in a boat too. I fish perch sometimes on Green Bay, and all you have to do is catch one or two fish, and you’ll have “friends” coming from everywhere to fish next to you. Before you know it, you’ll have a cluster of 25 boats all around you. It’s pretty funny until you get that one guy that won’t respect your space. Those guys piss me off...but most people are pretty good about staying spaced out.
@@steveweiss2081 LOL. Back in the day I would throw out a couple of buoys, boats would anchor right next to them, while i'm fishing in the honey hole 100 yards away..LOL It was awesome . One guy figured it out and yelled over at me , Are you catching any bullheads as i'm from IOWA, I was fishing Ball Club up in Minnesota.
