- I visited Belgium to watch Royal Charleroi Sporting Club 1-3 Club Brugge in the Belgian Pro League.
Charleroi is located just outside of Brussels and has been named world's ugliest city in the past.

I loved my time in Charleroi! It's DEFINITELY a city people should visit. Hopefully I can see more games in Belgium in future. Please subscribe!!!!
Welcome @ Lierse
i love ur videos and keep up the amazing work
Lots of decent teams in a compact area; Belgium is a small country so getting around is easy and not too costly. Great food and drink, too.

Honestly Sam , Monaco would be amazing , check out the training ground and stadium. Plus it’s a country that plays in a football league system 👍

I was there in the away end supporting my team Club Brugge. Can't believe you were there, I watch your videos all the time 😁
😅
So, Yaremchuck? Quite ambitious signing.
@@NS-tp8yx Yes, very happy with that.
@@NS-tp8yx We broke our record twice last week
@@rnn_172 Spending the sweet De Ketelaere money? Who was the other major signing?
I'm a huge fan of Sporting Charleroi, liked your video a lot. Clearly not a classical city for foreign people. Nevertheless this city and its people suffered so much from the deindustrialization. Back to early 1900's, it was the second richest region in Europe. The city improved a lot but still so many things to work on. On sport side, Sporting Charleroi is a subtop team in Belgium with a nice and very warm atmosphere. New stadium is planned to be ready in 2025, right in the middle of this post industrial area you visited.
Feel free to come back, I never miss a home game so feel free to send a message if you ever come back.
Yuck, a football hipster
As a fan of Charleroi what do you think of the signing of Zorgane and the player.
@@pacosmith3787 Probably the most important player. The boss in the midfield, top mentality and always positive player. Make never mean foul and efficient in assist or goal. Elegant player
I'm from Charleroi and I juste want to tell you : THANK YOU !! Amazing video, I hope it will change the things about my city
Did we watch the same video? Funny that you think this will 'change' people's opinion about Charleroi. It was very clear from the video, Charleroi is still very ugly and depressing. 1 shopping center is not gonna change that. Sorry.
@@jackf1841 did you go to Charleroi ?
I'm from Charleroi, I can tell you than you see a little part of Charleroi and it's not really the center of the city. We've 2 shopping center, a big cinema with Imax and 4dx. A new stadium for 2024 or 2025, a lot of new building. That's not in the video, we are far from the worst city in the world.
@@mrtomson301 its not the worst city but its one of the most ugly and depressing ones
@@driesroelvink6982 rome was not built in a day. And I didn't say "Charleroi is perfect". I said there was a profound change.
as a bruges fan , lovely to see you catching a game ! but we are far from our normal "form" but that new striker Feran Jugla that scored the first 2 goals ... ex barcelona B squad player ... the dude is on fire !
Ferran Jutgla really is a great player. Played some games for Barcelonas first team when Xavi arrived.
That's exactly what Charleroi doesn't have anymore. With a player like Jugla, or even Bayo or Nicholson from last year, the score would have been different. Badji and Benbouali are shit.
Gotta say you seem like one of the most genuine and generally nicest people I've ever seen keep it up it's rare in todays society your a credit to football and your channel absolute legend I'm gonna take a leaf out of your book watching your videos makes me want to be better and be nice to people strangely you give me hope in society when I'm at my worst and depressed and hate the world top man
Belgian football is criminally underrated. Sure, we ain't got La Liga. But Club Bruges and Anderlecht have been very difficult for some top European clubs in the past.
In the past... 30 years ago man 😆
@@ItzKamo more like literally last year (draw against PSG, beating Leipzig), 2016 when Club Brugge almost beat Real Madrid, etc...
@@thetrain47539 I was more talking about the time (luc nilis, marc degryse, enzo scifo, frank farina, etc)
Antwerp solid team aswell and also genk could be decent in eroupa league! And in the past standard liege was good, Very underrated league! Cheers from Sweden 🇸🇪
Genk, Gent and Standard Liege aswell.
COME TO ROYAL ANTWERP! Like Celtic being proud of their Irish roots, Royal Antwerp are very proud of their ENGLISH roots and sing a lot of their chants in English. Also, they're Belgium's oldest football club. 👏🇧🇪🤝🏴
I would have loved to see the old Bosuilstadion before the recent renovation. As far as I remember the pictures from it, it reminded me of a good old British football ground with its lovely stands covered by these beautiful, charming gable roofs which I absolutely love. But as far as I can tell (unfortunately I've still never been to Antwerp even if I'm not that far away from Belgium, living in the West of Germany), it's still a proper and remarkable stadium today with its own character. Totally different from all these cold-hearted 'modern arenas' built in the last ten or fifteen years, of which most are looking exactly the same.
I came here to watch your video on Charleroi because it's in the news in Belgium. Being from region of Charleroi, I'm happy to hear foreign people speaking in a positive way about Charleroi because even in Belgian we are often laughed at. People from Charleroi may be not rich or may not have a beautiful city but they're nice and friendly. You should come back and visit the city and its region, believe me there are very nice places
Hey, I’m belgian and I live near Charleroi. Thank you for your video. It can be hard sometimes saying that I’m from Charleroi bc of the bad reputation of the city. It’s so good to see tourists spending a fantastic time here !
I hope you enjoyed time here, in Charleroi. I hope you'll comeback here to discover the atmosphere in the stand back the goal.
It's a kind of 2nd house for Charleroi's fans.
Glad that you met 3 of our players and that you enjoyed belgian beers... Maybe, next time... You'll have the luck to taste Charleroi's beer!? 🙂
I really spend good time watching your video.
Thanks for coming in Charleroi 🙂
Being from the US and visiting most regions there I can probably name several cities which would beat out this for "World's Ugliest City".
Most regions in Belgium? Or USA?
@@imwinningthisone7613 Regions in USA. Never been to Belgium but it's on my list!

I born and live in Charleroi my whole life. I want to thanks you for your positif attitude!
If you want to know why Charleroi is like that they are several factor but the most reveleant is lack money. Charleroi was rich because of the coal and after they shut their production it was like a rich ppl getting bankrupcy but still living like a rich guy. After that we had mayor who cheat with the money of the city and use it for personal use (he also use civil worker for personal use).
But yeah Charleroi is recoverying for all the bad year. Look we will get a Legoland now!
Amazing insight. Buzzing to visit in March. I live near Bury in Manchester, trust me it isn't paradise, who cares whether the city is ugly average or beautiful its the people that make it. You have a famous football Club which is a great foundation for any great city. Hope I can get the tickets for the game against leuven, hope to see a charleroi home win!!
Thank you for coming out to the game man, glad you enjoyed the pyro show !
We might not be the best team in Belgium, but the atmosphere in the stands is usually pretty good!
Hope to see you in Charleroi again, thanks again for the vid 🤍🖤
Charleroi has a fantastic Photography Museum which is located in a renovated neo gothic Carmelite convent.
my grandma is actually originally from charleroi, i've wanted to go there but haven't had a chance yet so this was a great video for me! (my gran moved to australia and thats where our family is now, i love your vids much love from melbourne)
Nice Ash the train G'day from Adelaide Australia Hup Ajax
Players just before a game hanging around in a cafe downtown enjoying a coffee? I gotta say, I like their style! :D
Actually, Charleroi has been quite known as a hosting venue for the EURO 2000 which took place in the Netherlands and Belgium. The Stade du Pays de Charleroi looked totally different back then and its capacity was much higher, but it was drastically stripped down (or was it completely rebuilt in a very simple way?) about ten years ago because it was way too oversized for its club R.C.S.C. England beat Germany 1-0 there, I remember this very well. England managed by the beloved Kevin Keegan. This was probably the worst EURO Germany has ever played so far, the only point they gained in this group came from a lucky draw vs. Romania. So they were eliminated in the group stage and finishing at the last place, including 40-year-old Lothar Matthäus being called up into the squad. :D
P.S. At 17:11 you're pronouncing the city's name utterly correct for the very first time. ;) Thanks for your brilliant video. I have to say that I like places like this and I'm living in an area of Germany which best days are just as long ago as those of Wallonia, being a former coal mining area as well.
They dont rebuild the stadium they took away the extra seat and build a velodrome at Gilly with it.
But Charleroi planned to build a brand new stadium !
@@2hirizuwu225 Okay, now I know better why it looks so different now. But from what I've seen in this video, it has got some kind of charm in the state in which it currently is. It would be sad imho if they'd build another soulless 'modern arena' in the outskirts. He said it's reminding him of Kilmarnock, this sounds like an honour to me.
I travelled through Belgium in may , despite hearing it was one of the ugliest / dirtiest countries in Europe , it was absolutely beautiful , hope you is a great time
Belgium is usually maligned because of its flat landscape in Flanders. I'm from East Anglia so the Flemish landscape is home from home. The Flemish towns/cities; Ghent, Antwerp, Bruges are fascinating. The French-speaking south is hilly and well worth exploring. Belgium has a lot going for it: compact size, which means you can cover a lot of ground in a short time, fascinating history, excellent food and drink, particularly the beer. It borders France, Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany. It's not especially cheap but the food and drink is always of a high quality.
Been there in the city centre, didn’t really feel safe. It seemed like a Europeanized version of Detroit to me, also the many police officers wearjng bulletproof vests and big guns didn’t really help
@@prodigy3688 ok, so having well protected and armed cop didn't help you to feel safer ? Are you black or something ? Do you know that here in Belgium, cops don't shoot ar black people just for fun like in U.S.A ? I know it sounds weir for you but in Belgium, more cops we see, safer we feel. And the bullet proof vest is the regular équipements for all cops around the country, even in peaceful small towns. We try to protect our cops as they protect us.

Seems like Belgium has a system similar to Australia. First past the post is regarded as the Premiers or Minor Premiers. For most sports the teams finishing in the top 4 or 8 then go into the Finals knockout series, with the eventual survivor being the Champions.
They half the points of the first 4teams, then they play 2 times against eachother. It’s not really a knock-out series. Most of belgian teams dont even like the concept, all about the money I guess
Great video again lad! Would love to see you visit a Roda jc game which is my local club in holland the derby between roda and mvv always has a class atmosphere!
You should visit royal club antwerp.
The oldest team in belgium.
Our supporters are unique in belgium and europe.
You won’t be disappointed
The thing about Charleroi is that it's the most industrial city in Belgium which is why it's so ugly because it's just industrial buildings everywhere, Belgium is a nice country tho you could argue that Charleroi is the most ugliest city in Belgium.
There are some nice cities to visit in Belgium such as :
- Dinant
- Brugge
- Ghent
- Liège
- Mons
- Tournai
- Durbuy (World's smallest city)
- La Roche-En-Ardenne
- Rochefort
- Namur
- Antwerp
And so many more 😉
Ghent and Bruges are absolutely magnigificent cities, but it's cool that you included some lesser known ones in the list. Plenty of cities in Wallonia are worth a visit despite the bad reputation Wallonia gets.
@@quentin9032 Ouep, en effet je trouve que notre petite wallonie mérite mieux il y a tellement de beaux endroits en Wallonie 😊
If you haven’t watched ‘ in Bruges’, I’d watch it.
I know it’s Charleroi, but, just thought I’d mention it.
Also, the Belgian Trappist beers are superb.
Strong…. Definitely, but, very flavoursome.
Glad you enjoyed your time there.
Great film, love how open ended the ending was
Whoever was the snowflake that named Charleroi "World's ugliest city" has definitely never step out of western Europe lol
I like your spirit! Great video. Greetings from Belgium!
Very good! The central part of the city looks good, I like the stadium, the fans and the Royal Charleroi Sporting Club mascot, thanks for the video. Big hug here from Brazil 🤗😉✌
Charleroi is indeed the worst depressing city I have ever been. I am Belgian. The same grey everywhere. Houses, buildings, streets... It's actually unbelievable what it does to you. Feeling very happy and then visiting Charleroi, instantly you just do not feel that happy anymore. I rather visit any graveyard then Charleroi.
I love your videos man! You are literally living my dream. I am a huge football fan myself and I always dreamed of traveling across Europe and watching random football matches in random cities, although I come from the Balkans and I can't really afford doing it, the salaries here are terrible, we barely cover our living expenses, not too much left for traveling and enjoying. Anyway, thank you for doing these videos, you literally make my dream come true even via just watching your videos, I picture myself there with you, doing the trips. Keep it up!
You haven't seen цgIу cities till you've visited India. 🤦🏻♂️😄
Another good vid. Like the stadium and atmosphere.
Honestly, Charleroi reminds me of quite a few cities in the UK.
Imagine a Monaco video with the headline “a country that plays in a football league system” will make a great video and the stadium and training grounds are unreal and beautiful
U should visit the bosuil, playground of Antwerp!

That description would suit them more lol
I mean we're not a city to start with 😉
@@benbrist yeah still a shithole though 😂
you should look up pictures of what the stadium looked like during Euro 2000. I thought it was the most beautiful stadium of that tournament. It's a shame they had to downsize that stadium like that. I understand that you do that when the stadium is much too big or poorly maintained. But it really was a fantastic stadium. As for the city. i went there once. Well, when you visit Belgium from the Netherlands, you get the feeling that you are going back in time 50 years. that starts on the highway. But Charleroi itself is dated compared to the rest of Belgium.
You look like a really nice guy, first time i watch your channel but not the last time
Seemed like a cool little stadium and a great atmosphere, interesting video.👍⚽🇦🇺
Lived in Belgium for 8 years and you have to know 1 thing: Belgium is not a country, but 2 countries: Flanders (Dutch-speaking part) and Wallonia (French-speaking part). The places are worlds apart. Like night-and-day. Flanders is rich and has very beautiful cities (Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp...) while Wallonia is quite poor and has very grim, ugly cities. Sad but true.
Looks like a northern English City to be honest. Great fasade on the Stadium , probably slightly old style. But I like it
Most of Wallonian cities are quite rough on the edges tbh (because of the industrial decline), the people are really nice tho. You picked out a good game for sure, always a nice atmosphere in Charleroi and they always have a pretty decent team. Maybe not known abroad but they definitely have their place in Belgium's highest division and they are tough to beat, not an easy away game.
I think Charleroi is a nice city despite being apparently, the world's ugliest city and fully like all the respective Belgian clubs from the top till bottom tiers of the Belgian football, good friends!!!A fantastic football match between Royal Charleroi and Club Brugge indeed LONG LIVE BELGIAN FOOTBALL AND THE COUNTRY WHICH IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES EVER,GOOD FRIENDS!!!BELGIUM EVER!!!🇧🇪
Belgium football is captivating with clubs like club brugge, Royal Antwerp, Genk,Gent and Eupen.
I know lots of stuff about Belgium football
I'm Carolo (people live in Charleroi), thank you for this lovelly vidéo !
As a Sporting Charleroi fan and a local, this "award" was way exagerated, and now the city is changing a lot😅
My city of Charleroi hosted 3 matches of the Euro 2000, including 2 times England (vs Germany and Romania). I was 10 years old and we got places in the stadium between some English fans. That was a great experience. As a football fan and specially English football, I had the opportunity to see my favorite players such as Alan Shearer or Michael Owen. Great memories. Obviously the stadium was bigger at that time with a capacity of 30 000 people, which was too big for a quite small club, so it got reduced, also because it's right in the city center and very close to houses and flats, which was quite disturbing for the neighbourhood.
Look here, we got nice Belgium buildings, Belgium dogs, Belgium air, Belgium grass, Belgium people, Belgium rocks, Belgium mountai---

hello, indeed Charleroi is growing! moreover they will have a brand new football stadium, look on the internet, new stadium of Charleroi
My favorite Club! I visited Charleroi for my 21st birthday to see a game (was actually against Club Brugge as well). I wasn’t aware of the city’s title either. It’s far from being beautiful, nor is it modern😅, it looks like an old American industrial town. BUT, there ARE some fantastic spots, AND people in Charleroi. The Belgian Pro League is definitely underrated, looooots of talents we’re developed in this league.
Thank you for this video, made my day for sure
Great choice of beer there, one of my all time favourites.. You can get tripel karmeliet in tesco, in a bottle thats the same size as a wine bottle for £5.

I did like the city a lot ✨ wanna visit it and mostly, I wanna see a match there 🔥 please do visit🙏
Very good report, Club Brugge is the best team in Belgium and difficult to play against, but all credits to Charleroi from a Club fan.

Fun fact: Charleroi was also one of the host cities of Euro 2000 and even hosted Germany - England. Back then the stadium had a capacity of 30 000 visitors with one of the steepest stands ever. Since then the stadium has been downgraded to a safer capacity of 20 000 visitors.

None of those industrial areas you pointed out are in the heart of the city and most cities have areas like that . The downtown looked fine . I have seen far more depressing area walks in Britain.
Great video. Hope to attend the fixture on Friday evening weekend of 11th March. Looking forward to visiting the city. Can anyone tell me whether I can get a couple of tickets on the day of the game? Also how far a walk is the stadium from the city centre?

Great video again mate. I'll admit, I'm so jealous you get to travel to all these places! I guess I'll have to live my dreams through you haha
This is one of few stadiums to have reduced in capacity and still remain occupied. I remember England v Romania (Euro 200 Group Stage) game and the stadium looked totally different to what it does now. Used to be iconic for the 4 individual stands. Now a shadow of its former glory. Heard they move from there, would be shame if they do.
Great vid as always, agree with you that there is a weird beauty in those kind of places. Also the amount of head on the beer they gave you at 10:35 is criminal!
