Why are there so many dismissive comments like, “why am I watching this.” And, “I just want a latte.” Isn’t one of the best things about living in the modern world is that people can focus on something they love, be passionate about something, no matter what it is? If I go to get my car fixed, I’d really prefer if my mechanic liked doing his job, I firmly believe if he enjoyed it he would take more time to care about it. You better believe that every drink I make I pour my soul into, and there is no other way I’d have it.
Jacob, spot on. Just loved your comment. It's a celebration of life, at its finest. Let's do what we love and do with with excellence. Isn't pushing the limits what drives the progress? Indeed, it is. This, in particular, is my single most favourite barista performance out there. Aga is actually a very humble and introverted person, and it's amazing to see her just thrive when she does what she loves. She's a star and no one should give a crap about what haters think.
The people who are writing things like 'Why am I watching this' are just random people who got onto this video through the algorythm (me included), and are now watching something they ain't actually interested in, so they go ahead and write what propably many people are thinking: "Why am I watching a video about a barista Championship at 3 am when I should acutally be sleeping?". I know half the ppl here are like "wtf it's coffee" but it's just the same as craft beer, whiskey, wine, and other craft-quality drinks...yes, you can have Coors, or Jack Daniels, or box wine, and they all have their place. But maybe, just maybe, the process of consumption should be a little more thoughtful, a little more meaningful - this is what craft food & drink is about. We SHOULD be honoring the whole process, the farmers' struggle, the growth, death, and processing of the natural material, the careful attention to detail paid at every stage - this is how things are meant to be consumed - thoughtfully and with care & attention. It may seem totally excessive or hipster to some, but it's about respect - respecting the customer/consumer, respecting the earth & the bounties it has provided us, respecting yourself enough to put time and effort into crafting something meaningful that enriches the soul as much as the body. Maybe this sounds like a load of hooey, and as I said, there is still a place for Folgers in a Mr Coffee autodrip, but let's take a second to savor whatever it is - a fine bourbon, a fresh oolong, a crisp german reisling, a uniquely tangy red ale, or a sweet, chocolatey natural Ethiopian. Whatever your preference, take the time for yourself - you're worth that extra 10 minutes.
This is probably the best explanation for high-end/craft food and beverage that I've ever read. One of the things the western world needs most is a shift in ideals away from quantity and hurry, instead favoring quality and taking the time to savor. It's better for our minds, our bodies, and the planet. Thank you.
