Frankly, I'm surprised you didn't mention Owen Hart's death at Over the Edge in 1999. For those who don't remember, he was doing a gimmick at the time as the Blue Blazer where he would descend from the rafters into the ring (similar to a bit that Sting was doing in WCW at the time). At the PPV, he was supposed to drop to the ring for a match against The Godfather. He was supposed to lower just above the ring, act like he was entangled and then land on his face to comedic effect. While being lowered, though, he unintentionally triggered an early release, fell 78 feet, landing on a rope chest first, flipping him into the ring. None of this was shown on TV because a pre-taped segment was showing instead. When it did cut back to the arena, he was being worked on by doctors in the ring and Jim Ross repeatedly told viewers that this was NOT a wrestling angle and you could see that Jerry Lawler had no words to say either. Sadly, Hart ended up dying from his injuries. The crowd's reactions to this are still indescribable. It's one thing to see a person lose a match that you hoped would win. That's disappointing but it's all part of the business and, as fans, we know that's how storylines go. Likewise, it's a thing to see beloved wrestlers be "injured" in the ring. Once again, we know that is scripted and we know that it was written for Hennig to turn on Flair and injure him. Flair was prepared for it and was never truly hurt. It's an entirely OTHER matter to see anyone literally DIE in the ring. That's why JR had to keep telling viewers that this was NOT scripted or a stunt. After years of seeing bits similar to it, we would first think "Owen will recover and he'll do another match next seeking revenge for his 'accident' or something like that" but, sadly, that was not going to happen. What is even more controversial (and still is to this day) is that, even with Owen Hart (a wrestler well liked not just by fans but by fellow wrestlers) dying, Vince still carried on with the show. Jeff Jarrett (who was a very close friend of Owen and the entire Hart family) had to be literally shoved through the curtain for his match. Yeah, they did a lovely tribute show to him the next night on Raw but that still didn't change the fact that the PPV asked audiences to enjoy other matches even after just seeing a man die.
I think at this point, we should be asking why McMahon insisted on using that sail boat clip instead of either scrapping the idea, or using proper safety harnesses designed for stunts like that.

Even Lesnar didn't want this to happen, and he seemed upset when he did. After the Streak was over, Taker would still move on to get four more wins and another loss, this time by then 31-year-old Roman Reigns, who had been battling leukemia for years. After all this time since Taker's retirement in November 2020, all I can say is... Thank you, Taker. You're the best.

Backlund was one of the greatest technical wrestlers of all time, and it made sense for what was going on at the time in terms of booking and rating. Bret had enough backstage power to change the outcome if he wanted
Bret losing the belt to backlund was fine, as the real feud/story was about the rivalry between him and Owen. IIRC Bret would win the belt back at WM10 and later face Owen that the 1994 SummerSlam.
Kevin Nash recently told a story about them performing overseas for the troops and Undertaker had broken his ribs but finished the tour anyway wearing a flak jacket under his vest to mitigate some pain. I don't know if anyones taken a bump - any bump - but they almost always rattle ribs. Now imagine your ribs are broken. Jesus.
Not only did they not announce that Koloff won nor did they present him with the belt, he just left after the bell rang because back in the territory days, if fans threatened to riot then they made good on that promise. The closest comparison in modern times to Bruno losing the belt after 7 years was the streak ending at WMXXX.
I remember finding out about Roman Reigns, me and my dad were watching the 2006 royal rumble together when it came to an end, and we saw a video recommendation of roman reigns relinquishing the championship and we watched it, we were both moved to tears because we watched roman's rise from NXT to the shield to the BIG DOG, im glad he's now the man that he is
As an Undertaker die hard.. There will always be apart of me that’s a bit butt hurt that he never got one good clean decisive win against Lesnar.. especially after losing the streak, their Summer Slam match should’ve been a shoe in win for Taker but they went with that weird pseudo double turn with Undertaker of all people resorting to a Low Blow.. Then they blew the feud off in a pretty meh Cell match with Lesnar winning AGAIN.. That just never made sense to me.
Lasner beating the streak was the most shocking moment. Even i hated it so much back then, i cant imagine an other endling like this. If a newcomer would beat undertaker, everyone would expect that, but nobody saw that coming
Nah they left out 3 events bigger than all of this. 1. The screw jobby McMahon on Bret Hart that made him brawl backstage and leave WWF for years after. 2. Shane McMahons splash from 50feet by stage entrance that gave him a concussion 3. Mick Foleys failed jump from the top of the cage on Undertaker
For personally the hanging of Big Bossman was so much over top. I mean i like it but seriously that is something else. I could imagine people calling the police to arrest Undertaker for murder.
Like the undertaker I don’t remember that match to this day 🤷🏾♂️. I wiped that memory from my brain. As far as I’m concerned the undertaker is still 21-0. Also me: I remember jumping ship to watch tna for a bit because at the time they were treating their fans much better than the WWE 😏😏

What's the general consensus on takers streak being broken? Was it right or wrong of WWE to make that call? I feel him remaining undeafeted would of been best, but I guess the shock value will always be remembered.
I remember that night at War Games and the week following. Yeah, they sold the Ric Flair injury very well. The next week televised show, it was either Nitro or Thursday night Thunder, they opened the show with a headshot of Flair lying on a hospital gurney with a cone or funnel sticking out of his nose (I guess it was supposed to be his ventilator). 😂😂 They made it look like he was being prepared for surgery or something. And they made the tone sound so somber as to seen like Flair died from his head being smashed between the cage steel door.

The broken streak was a shit match. Good striking exchange at the beginning, but after that, it was just a boring Finisher showcase. Maybe they had to do it that way because of 'taker's injury, but he deserved a more epic loss than just getting F5'd repeatedly.

They loved the "action" moreso than the aftermath of that extreme violent action. It's cool to see someone fall through 5 barbed wire tables in a row, however it's not cool to see their limpless body unconscious in a pool of blood for 6 minutes.

I don't know if anyones taken a bump - any bump - but they almost always rattle ribs. Now imagine your ribs are broken. Jesus.
Cody's pec was bad, you could hear the crowd go "😬😬" at the sight of it
3:15 Lita sold those chair shots better than most male wrestlers
Not only did they not announce that Koloff won nor did they present him with the belt, he just left after the bell rang because back in the territory days, if fans threatened to riot then they made good on that promise. The closest comparison in modern times to Bruno losing the belt after 7 years was the streak ending at WMXXX.
What about Cena Vs Lensar Summerslam match. Audience was silent seeing the dominance of Lesnar.
I remember finding out about Roman Reigns, me and my dad were watching the 2006 royal rumble together when it came to an end, and we saw a video recommendation of roman reigns relinquishing the championship and we watched it, we were both moved to tears because we watched roman's rise from NXT to the shield to the BIG DOG, im glad he's now the man that he is
I hate how the modern WWE requires you to hit your finisher a minimum of 7 times to get a pin fall.
Yeah, ngl they kinda need to stop calling them Finishers at this point
As an Undertaker die hard.. There will always be apart of me that’s a bit butt hurt that he never got one good clean decisive win against Lesnar.. especially after losing the streak, their Summer Slam match should’ve been a shoe in win for Taker but they went with that weird pseudo double turn with Undertaker of all people resorting to a Low Blow.. Then they blew the feud off in a pretty meh Cell match with Lesnar winning AGAIN.. That just never made sense to me.
8:19 "you could hear a pin drop"
Random fan: "YOU STILL SUCK"
I'm sure that the actual accident of Owen Hart may have had the crowd silenced and worried in RAW.
I remember the moment that Jake The Snake Roberts DDT'd Ricky The Dragon Steamboat on bare concrete. Wow! That was bloody and shocking.
People overlook how loved Ricky was, JTS became the biggest heel in the company with that move
When the streak ended I remember afterwards I was sat staring into nothingness, not believing what I just saw
Lasner beating the streak was the most shocking moment. Even i hated it so much back then, i cant imagine an other endling like this. If a newcomer would beat undertaker, everyone would expect that, but nobody saw that coming
I was there when Brock beat Taker at WM 30. You could literally hear a PIN drop. I remember almost fainting. It was surreal
I think the most shocking think to me is that I've seen every one of these moments live on TV. Crazy. Ha.
Owen was sadly bigger than all 3 of those, the entire night was done in 1 second
For personally the hanging of Big Bossman was so much over top. I mean i like it but seriously that is something else. I could imagine people calling the police to arrest Undertaker for murder.
I was waiting for Bruno koloff nice way to end video
That dude's reaction to the Undertaker losing his streak is wild. Lol Looks like he bet the house and... 🤦🏿♂️
Imagine when Jon Jones takes his first legit loss, it's gonna be the same thing. XD
Streak shouldn’t have ever been broken. Defiantly not by lesnar
5 Years later and the reigns Leukemia announcement still makes me tear up
Outlaw Ron Bass cutting open Brutus Beefcake was a shocker for me
Like the undertaker I don’t remember that match to this day 🤷🏾♂️. I wiped that memory from my brain. As far as I’m concerned the undertaker is still 21-0.
Also me: I remember jumping ship to watch tna for a bit because at the time they were treating their fans much better than the WWE 😏😏
I watched the Survivor Series 94 live on PPV. I was very concerned about Bret Hart but it was also a very boring part of the match
I was at a WM 30 watch party at a big restaurant, when brock won everybody was silent for 5 minutes, everybody thought it was a botch because brocks music didn't play right away, it was surreal
I still think undertaker losing to Brock was a dumb idea.
The *BIGGEST* 😑😑😡😡😠😠
I literally cried when undertakers streak was broken, I hated Brock for years, I went straight into my room cause it hurt that bad I refused to even to this day ever watch that wrestlemania ever again
Just wait when they say the same thing about Jon Jones lol.
@@The-Black-Death who-???
@@SoulZERO15 That's what they're gonna say alright. XD
The fact wwe made the crowd go silent twice in one night. Roman relinquished his title and wwe want Dean to turn on Seth. That was BOLD
What's the general consensus on takers streak being broken? Was it right or wrong of WWE to make that call? I feel him remaining undeafeted would of been best, but I guess the shock value will always be remembered.
The Streak ending is an event I called “The What Heard Around the World”.
I am Indian, South African Indian... however when Randy dropped the title to Mahal I genuinely stopped following wrestling religiously..
3:30 stone cold pretty good at beating womyn tbh lmao frfrfrfr
I remember that night at War Games and the week following. Yeah, they sold the Ric Flair injury very well. The next week televised show, it was either Nitro or Thursday night Thunder, they opened the show with a headshot of Flair lying on a hospital gurney with a cone or funnel sticking out of his nose (I guess it was supposed to be his ventilator). 😂😂 They made it look like he was being prepared for surgery or something. And they made the tone sound so somber as to seen like Flair died from his head being smashed between the cage steel door.
Silence is all I’ve heard from audiences for years
Watching Stone Cold beat up Lita, is pretty messed up given what happened between him and Debra
Yeah I think he beat Debra with a chair and stunnered her 🙄😂
@@dildobaggins8987 No, he just beat the living shit out of her, leaving her swollen and bruised, ran away before the police could arrive, and later pleaded no contest when charged with domestic abuse. Was Stone Cold Steve Austin a cool character and important to the history of wrestling? Yes. Was the man behind him, Steven James Anderson, a man who beat his wife? Unfortunately, also yes
@@frodijr “ever living shit out of her” do you genuinely know that? Do you know if it was a domestic dispute and then both being drunk etc? I just think by reading your comments you’re getting a bit emotional/sensational on behalf of somebody you’ve never met or don’t even know the full story regarding. Is beating a woman out of nowhere good? No. I know a lot of relationships that have resulted in physical confrontation though….would I liken it to a fucking wrestling match? 😭😂 come on mate. Just relax and don’t be so drummed up to be a victim or see the world as victim/abusers
They seemed to be fairly careful with her. Most of the moves hardly connected. It's not like they actually pummeled her. Besides it's her job. I'm sure she didn't get too hurt from it
I always felt Ambrose was trying to be pushed to be a Steve Austin Clone...
*I was there at HIAC when Cody revealed his injury you can feel the air in the arena thin out and most of the crowd was concerned most of the match*
Bold makes this comment more important
I like how Paul Heyman said, after Kurt Angle left, they did a Stone Cold crucifixion, and he alluded to Kurt taking the idea to WWE.
"That quiet Japanese heat" 🤣 idk why that's so funny to me
I'm surprised that when Owen Hart falling from the rafters and passing away didn't make it on the list. Absolutely crazy and terrible. Our entertainment should never come at the expense of someone's life. I know it happened during a PPV just don't remember which one...how that didn't make the list at number one is odd and makes list void
America where a person placed on a cross is considered worse than a school shooting
On the last clip, I paused the video for a second and was thinking to myself, "was prince albert the one to defeat Bruno Samartino?"😯 he looked like Koloff.
I hated the Curt Hennig swerve in that Four Horsemen vs nWo WarGames match. You said right, man. Killed the town indeed. After that, I didn't really give a shit anymore.
Edge returning in the 2021 royal rumble always leaves me in tears.
2 honorable mentions:
In the late 90's in WCW, Ric flair has a heart attack on a live broadcast of Monday nitro.
On Smackdown live (in the past 5 years), Brock Lesnar, in MMA fashion, busts open Randy Orton.
The broken streak was a shit match. Good striking exchange at the beginning, but after that, it was just a boring Finisher showcase. Maybe they had to do it that way because of 'taker's injury, but he deserved a more epic loss than just getting F5'd repeatedly.
Never mind that The Undertaker was well past his prime by then.
That guy in the white shirt that had the jaw dropped shocked face when Taker lost at Mania 30. It was the perfect reaction to what had happened on that night and appropriate. When I first watched it I was just sad that they really did that to the Deadman. Brock didn't need or nor did he deserve the win
Surprised the nexus debut wasn't on this list, it's probably the quietest I've ever seen the crowd after the undertaker match.
i hate how bad the rollins and ambrose 2018 feud wound up being because the timing of the heel turn could not have been more perfect, I would agree with considering it distasteful if roman hadn't loved the idea
Really, not going to have the night Owen died on this list?
Unbelievable.
Who
Brock Lesnar should never have beaten The Undertaker on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
They're gonna say the same thing when Jon Jones loses too lol.
When Andre tossed around the midgets...that was always fun...
As I said on another comment section Joe A /Roman Rains played for my GaTech Yellowjackets 😀I met him .He was a cool dude .
His stardom makes me proud😀.
I remember when the Undertaker locked Ultimate Warrior in a casket on Paul Bearer's Funeral Parlor.
Undertaker asking J.R "is that because you're better than me?"
More scared for JR just hearing that, over Kane setting him on fire😂
Honourable mention: HBK kicking out of Taker's Tombstone at Mania 25 in their epic encounter
The lita thing wasn’t bad. People just weren’t ready for it
The No 1 spot for me was back in the late 90's. Watching Owen Hart falling from the roof......
I really don't understand the crowd reaction in the Sandman crucifixion. Isn't the ECW crows supposed to be hardcore and edgy? But the moment it happened they all turned out to be good little christian boys, who cried to their respective moms. Bunch of hypocrites.
They loved the "action" moreso than the aftermath of that extreme violent action. It's cool to see someone fall through 5 barbed wire tables in a row, however it's not cool to see their limpless body unconscious in a pool of blood for 6 minutes.
@@jamesburgess2k So they love the cause but not the effect.
Yeah to me about it, especially from what's supposed to be a secular nation, but if something is disrespectful to a bronze age mythology glorifying the most barbaric, abusive, neglectful, so called "god" that's when it's a bridge too far for people.
The Lita spot was done to get Austin heat after turning heel. Neither of which worked because the crowd didn't want to boo their hero, Austin.
WrestleMania XXX is where our childhood ended
