The guitar is tuned to Standard tuning.
OMG!!!CRAZY ATMOSFERE!!
C standard atleast
you mean B flat ?
How to play Doom/Stoner metal :
1-Buy a lota weed
2- take as many bongs hits your lungs are capable of withstand
3- plug your guitar on amp
4- toke again
5-dial your amp to 11
6- reach the stratosphere
***** oh,you almost forgot,
7.record it
8.play it back when your straight and realize it sounds like dog shit.
+trillriff-axegrinder for me when im high, im more drawn in to keep playing for longer and i also write simpler, catchier riffs, not necessarily something that needs to be super heavy or technical (as technical as you can get with doom/sludge/mathcore/wannabe jazzfusion kind of stuff lol)
Psyfonify l
You forgot the 2nd most important step (bong hits it’s #1), worship Satan.
You just described my band.
You'll be hard pressed to find a guitar as ergonomic as an Gibson SG. The depth of the body and double cutaway design give superior access and playability. It's simply the easiest guitar I've ever played. I have a lower back problem, and the ultra light weight of the instrument minimizes the pressure on my body. Since I do a lot of teaching, these factors reduce the stress on my body in general. I also like the look of the SG, and aesthetics mean a lot :D
Don't mention the neck dive... ;)
@@tuelassen7049 if you're sitting a lot, it's not too much of an issue.. I mostly sit and play with my SG.
Sounds like Hate to Feel by Alice in Chains. Cantrell knows how to do it right.
+GuitarandPassion 2000 Even though that song was written entirely by Layne Staley , but its obviously still played by Jerry Cantrell who is indeed amazing. Thats riff on here remends me even more of Crowbar "It Pours From Me" , if you haven't heard of Crowbar check them out their great.
+Josh Pelton All right I will look into it, thanks
Also, feel free to check out my channel, where I upload original guitar compositions that I have written. The quality is poor, but you may like them. Feel free to watch my channel, I try to upload a video about once a week, but sometimes things don't work out, another video coming soon. Thanks!
That intro really reminded me of Alice In Chains
Totally, sounds Jerry Cantrell...
Something from dirt I think
Yep. Hate to Feel
Shaggy teaching guitar riffs
Lol
If he got more older
Now he captures monsters in his music
only channel giving free lesson on this type of genre properly. thanks man really appreciate
Nothing wrong with Alice in chains my friend they certainly get dark on it. great lessons you give I love doom.
the way you teach is great, many guys who teach assume the audience is fairly educated in the language of guitar. But for folks like myself who are fairly new to all this with a limited understanding of theory, it's great. THANKS FROM AMERICA!
I love the really haunting and demented sound that you get from doom metal.
I know, I'm from DC, where American Doom all started!
Patrick Edwards I thought American Doom started in Virginia
Die by the Sword-God It started in the DMV(DC, Maryland, Virginia). I was raised in Silver Spring, Maryland, a suburb of DC, where I was born.
Die by the Sword-God Also, Alexandria is a suburb of DC. So the East Coast and the greater DC metropolitan area specifically is where Maryland Doom started.
Patrick Edwards Oh didn't know that. ( I am from North Rhine-Westphalia) So it started in the DMV? and what doom bands are from maryland?
This is badass, finally some lessons on music I dig! Thanks
The Duo-. Simon Smith, Corey Hunter. The most underrated channel ever
Queens of the Stoneage album in the background, hell yeah
I like that you used this Alice in chains riff .there were several early alice in chains songs with very doomy black Sabbath influence.. Black Sabbath were a major influence on thr whole Seattle grunge movement.
Great lesson as usual! Cheers from France.
after 25 seconds is the most creepy thing i've heard in my fucking life
I love to read these comments in an attempt to discredit him by calling him a "knock off" or accusing him of copyright violations the really sad part is some of you don't understand that songs are written with/in scales, modes, arpeggios, intervals, styles among other things I find it extremely humorous how these people get shut down every time because they don't know what they're talking about. Shred on Corey I enjoy learning from you.
Cool lesson, I need to listen to Doom Metal now so I can get some ideas
I am just starting to learn guitar. I have no formal musical training, and I sometimes don't always know some of the terms you are using, nor do I know all the notes yet, but I love your videos and you are a great teacher!
Well, Alice in Chains are pretty much doom metal although they have a lot of other elements in their sound as well. They got tagged by that stupid catchphrase just because they were from Seattle.
Best of the Seattle bunch, in my opinion. Still doing excellent work, too.
The Melvins
Zimny Lech Wawelski Yes, the Melvins are also great. Love their idiosyncratic and experimental approach. Big fan as well. Same goes for Soundgarden. But I personally prefer AiC more. And I think Corey does too. :)
Exactly Look at Jar of Flies to Dirt or Facelift. An entire new feel for each. Doom metal/Sludge really started by Tripod/Self-titled album.
You'll have to either play all of these songs like you said, moving every note to whatever fret it is on your guitar, or you'll have to re string your guitar with new strings. I like to use .10-.52s because that way you can still tune down to D and tune back up without an issue. Alternatively, if you want to keep it in C Standard, I'd suggest checking out Sleep, High On Fire, Suffocation, and Kyuss. Or you can tune up to Drop C and do Mastodon, The Ocean, and Gojira songs. Lots o' fun riffs
This one was given to me by a Mauritian fellow who used to get bass lessons from me. He bought it from the island. The other ones are from CafePress.
Diggin the pentagram tat. I have a baphomet on my left shoulder.
@Ramuniz1 I'm using standard tuning here.
Liked this shit as I heared the Epic Doom laugh
thanks for your response, i really appreciate it since a lot of popular youtubers don't get back to comments. I figured that the Gibson SG was a fairly lightweight guitar simply because Angus Young has played one for so many years with his small size. The main person who inspired me to want an SG is Tony Iommi. I'm looking for a great guitar in the long run for the blackened doom metal band i want to start, i'm still learning guitar tho, any guitar advice you could give me?
I love this sound and always have. Great riffs to learn for Oktoberfest/Halloween! Fall and early winter just seem to fit the doom Aura..........Been playing "Lord of this World" a good bit lately. It's fun to play just need to take time to learn all of it.
Doom on!!
Great job as always Corey!
Intro sound like the middle from Tears by Candlemass. Nice works Corey, you're fantastic musician!
Just thank you, for your great job.
Shirts are neat and all, but SHIT! You're a Doom master. It doesn't matter what you wear. Thanks for explaining things, I know it's helped me in my quest to spread the Doom.
Great lesson, thanks!
I want to specialize in traditional melodic melancholic doom, kind of like my dying bride and mirror of deception.
@caywoodclan I was using a harmonised guitar on the backing track.
I love the demented sound...
Thank You!
Thanks a lot!
Lovely SG mate
That's mad Dr Starr, from the 1972 Amicus horror film, Asylum. It's right at the very end of the film, when he strangles the psychiatrist. A very good film, by the way.
Really helpful!
@FREDMERZRS Thanks, and happy Halloween!
Interesting. For doom I'm obsessed with arabic scales
Genius
A misanthropic nature helps, lol.
@6Masked6man6 I haven't heard of them. Thanks for letting me know I'll have to check them out.
What tuning is it in? I'm sorta tone def (noob)
@@deathmetalrules3692 Standard tuning.
nice work! bro!
Smmmooth teaching dude great technique
Papa Mustaine would be proud.
Most doom metal is characterized by drop tunings, drop C or tuning everything down 1.5 steps are good options.
Right
Amazing!!!😍😍😍😍🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Check out your local Guitar Center / Sam Ash stores. They always get used SGs in. I've seen standards for sale less than $800. Wish I would have waited. Seen a few Standards for about $750.
Yay, an Aussie, you beaut
Its like CAESARS PALACE from Morbid Angel.
Kirk Windstein's school ;)
Sounds like Alice in Chains. Which are doom in a sense
Good man \m/ thanks
yo corey, are you going to focus on any of the more modern styles of playing death metal? or grindcore? i'd like to see some examples or practices good for getting into DM style of playing.
World painted blood!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting video. I'm a weekend hackjob, could someone tell me what his guitar is tuned to?
Nevermind, just seen it.
I like this.
Yeah, possibly.
first song that came into my mind was hate to feel by alice in chains
Great lesson. What tuning are using, btw???
Greeeat video! but...
Where do you buy your shirts?
Which stores are?
it sounds like the "old" Black Sabbath ;D
i run my own studio and play out , great guitar lessons , [Doctorshock studios]keep it good stuff , like the doom ...thanks
i have a question for you gemini, i'm thinking about (in the long run, not anytime soon, i'm so broke) getting a gibson sg standard like yours. they are so expensive tho, are they really worth it? if they are really worth like 2 grand they cost then what makes them so great?
creepiest... laugh... evar....
Dare I say it? The fuck does that mean? AIC never tried or wanted to get thrown into the grunge classification lol
No one cares.
beginning reminds me of "hate to feel" by alice in chains.
sons for the deaf in the background. nooiiiiiiice
nice idea ...since you are making a harmony with two guitars ...why not show it as a two note chord and play both notes on one guitar?
rockanthems It sounds messy in this instance. I prefer the harmony.
can you do a lesson and play riffs Wine From Tears style??(its an underatted band)
What tuning are you playing in?
@killchargemembrfrank Autopsy are death metal. Good, old-school stuff!
You can't even hear it!
I hear cathedral here :)
@ gsogoz, how do you create the sort of sad doom sound?
This just sounds good because of the amplification he´s using and the guitar quality
I have a bit of a problem with playing this(and this is a reaction to Gemini). I have tried to play the suggested frets and the problem seems to be that my guitar is too low tuned to get the right notes at the right place. For example: you say that I need to play on the 5th string and the 5th fret, while that it is with me the 10th fret. This is because my guitar is tuned to C |F | A#|D#| G | C and not in standard... Is there any way to fix this?
What album is that on the music stand in the background? Weird question I know but it looks familiar.
QOTSA - Songs for the Deaf
@6Masked6man6 Wouldn't call Ghost doom metal, really... they're more like psych rock than anything. This riff makes me think of something like Candlemass or Solitude Aeturnus
so is he harmonizing the root note and the 3rd root?
What's the sound effect at the end of intro? a crying demon? :D
+Muhammadreza Haghiri That's mad Dr Starr, from the 1972 Amicus horror film, Asylum. It's
right at the very end of the film, when he strangles the psychiatrist. A
very good film, by the way.
Dem stringz iz downtuned way too much for their size. I'm guessing is was C/C# standard you were playing in?
yep...I think you´re right, though not sure, but sounds kinda C / C#
Am I the only one who heard Candlemass in first seconds?
Im just saying but u shouldve done a song by Doom: VS
Where did you get the sample from?
Scooby DOOM
is that a real song at the beginning if so what is it? i really like it
***** I wrote it for the lesson.
Corey Hunter oh i didn't really watch the rest of the video i was just curious of how the riff would sound in the beginning of the video
It really sounds like Dirt by Alice in Chains
are you in standard tune?
I can't, the strings are too tight to tune it to standard...
What tunning are you using?
Standard.
Are you from nsw? Keen for a jam?
can to tel me hw 2 create a demonic sounding solo .....
Who band play this song ?
i would have to say more sludge than doom
"Dare I say it" What's wrong with alice in chains?
Why is this asmr 💀
Nothing; I'm a massive fan, but they're hardly classified as Doom Metal.
Lol, is your 6th string loose enough?
