    I've got a few dozen cars from the 1960s a few 65 and 66 mustang. one 66 mustang fastback. 1 68 and 1 69 Camaro a 69 chevelle 2 door. I bought all of them years ago from a guy who was gonna scrap them because he thought they were to rusty to restore. They were to rusty to be worth restoring back then by not today.

      What an awesome opportunity, if we only knew back in the day what a rust bucket would bring today. Seems you lucked out, nice job

    I took the vinyl top off of my 1987 Chevy Caprice classic and I think mine's have you beat I have no idea how I'm going to get this top of this car replaced

      Vinyl tops add a nice touch to some cars. But not sure they are worth the damage they can cause. The best solution for a roof panel might be find a donor car to get it from. That might be slim pickings of course.

    Great job! I have to do the same to my 72 Grand Prix. My roof looks a lot like to Birds roof because of a vinyl top. Do you use seam sealer in the channels along the drip edge? Thank you!

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes you are correct once all welded and primed definitely seam seal drip rail.

    Nice work, just letting you know the seam where the lead would be is the roof panel and top of the quarter panel, the sail panel is between the rear window and the trunk lid. Do you intend to add more welds all the way around because you drilled out more plug welds than you put back, just wondering

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Рік тому +3

      Thanks had a good time out in Arizona. The panel between the back glass and trunk deck is the filler panel, and the panels on each side that go between the 1/4 glass and rear window is the sail panels. That are called that because that is what they resemble, even the interior panels for the sections are also called sail panel trim. Unfortunately those panels are not sold separately from the full 1/4 panels. Be a whole cooler if they did.

    Will the rain channels eventuallh get seam sealed? What keeps the water out?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes great observation, the drip rails need a nice seam sealer to keep water from damaging the new skin. Thanks!

    Looks good do you know if the Firebird convertible comes with seams on each side left and right by the trunk mine is smooth and I didn’t know if that’s Factory or not

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Рік тому +1

      Good question, I assume you are talking about the area between the trunk deck and convertible top, the left and right edges of the filler panel. Only on convertibles those seams are smoothed over and not visible from the factory. Coupe has a small amount of seam sealer but still a very defined and
      Visible seam.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  4 місяці тому +1

      Unfortunately they are not available as just a sail panels. They where removed from full 1/4 panels that where cut up for parts.
