What California's Almond Farms Really Look Like | Originals | msnbc
it's amazing they complain about not having water but I know it's major inconvenience but throughout the San Joaquin Valley they've gone from row crop vegetables to planting new crop almond Orchards on a daily basis for the last 8 years in California even knowing we have a water crisis
We need to plant more trees, not less, to help with Global Warming and Climate Change.
@@bobvog7123climate change is something that was happening through out the history of the planet way before humans had factories or were burning fuels at this level, you can't prevent it, humans has no affect on it, neither negatively or positively
10,000 + golf courses in the deserts of the USA!
Biggest water wasters imaginable.
It takes a lot of water to grow a dry nut.
In the Almond orchards can we make one foot deep x one foot wide trenches between the trees . Then during every rain thousands of litres of rain water will sink into the ground. This percolation of water whenever it rains may be sufficient to keep the soil moisture for the next few months. If banana tree chunks and coconut husk are kept around the trees, the moisture from the rain water may last for longer periods. It may be a great savings from irrigating with water from the canals . Canal water can be used when ever need arises . Allow the rain water to percolate through the shallow trenches criss crossing the orchard.
This is a gross misuse of resources. It's great to become more efficient with the use of water, but it's not okay to do all of this work to grow something that in fact is not necessary for society and only for personal profit. I'm sure there are better locations to grow almonds. It's okay to adapt your business and move onto something new.
Do your research about growing conditions that are necessary for growth of almonds.
Actually almonds are one of the most drought resistant tree species in the world.
Almond trees by far, use more water than any other crop. The only area that uses more water is cattle that graze on grass. So drinking almond milk is not much better than regular milk
Almonds use up 1900 gallons of water per pound of almond per month year round and, there are roughly 400 miles of land given to almond farms.
If we're talking health wise drinking real milk " regular " is so much better than almond milk.
not 1 rain water harvest tank/system on any almond grove
Why is there nothing else growing under the trees ? Glyphosate ? Bare ground always heats up fast and dries out fast !!
They're farming in a dessert basically.
How do you deal with birds?
Insightful video 💕
If we make 2. X. 6 feet trenches of 2 feet depths, can it hold rain water as well as irrigation water for longer periods and nourish the plants . Rain water will not run away but all the water will percolate into the earth.
How can we cover the area with something than can keep the water and moisture for a long period so that every drop of water we pour over the land can remain there for the sustained growth of the almond trees . Now the whole area looks barron. Soil is dry . How to cover the soil with some absorbent substances that can nurture the trees . Can coco peat or saw dust or sugarcane straw or wheat and paddy straw help . Once they absorb water, they retain it for a long period
The thicker the layer , longer the moisture dispersal . Banana tree trunks contains so much water . Will that help .
Going through labor almond factory jobs Is terrible
Can you explain why brother?
Great stuff! I was wondering why the cost was so high. One of my most favorite things in this world is Almond Butter, but I just can't buy it very often because of the price!
the 21st century Dust Bowl is about to begin
*Root Girdled trees are drought stressed, even without conditions of Drought!* Felled trees from shuddered orchard revealed evidence that accepted planting methods may be one cause of drought stress to entire crop. Evidenced by root systems wrapping around trees main stem like a Tourniquet. Just above obstruction, trunk resembles fat man wearing a tight belt. Where Starches and sugars not getting down to root system get backed up.
We got through the drought without government help. Now, they are going to regulate the ground water, even though the drought is over. So the threat now isn't from the sky, but from Sacramento.
"Even though the drought is over."
Haha no it's not. How bout that 2020 fire season in Cali. Worst ever. But I imagine that was just a coincidence.
California still has very limited water, whether it's considered a drought season or not.

Then why don't you guys buy some atmospheric water generators?
You wanna buy it for them?
@@Dawreckk Why would he buys it for him? he's not the one taking millions of free gallons water
You know how extremely inefficient and polluting that is?
Go out of business then

Great information. The author of the book Beloved would say to make a person throw away some of their books, posters, and other valued seeds of information is like a water shortage of the mind.
