As a native son of the GREAT Central Valley!! (916) I grew up seeing the amazing variety of crops grown up an down the valley. I can say without any sense of exaggeration, the awesome beauty of an Almond orchard in full bloom is truly a sight too behold! Much like Cherry trees, Almond trees have some of the most beautiful blooms! So very proud of and am in awe of the amazing variety and quantity of crops produced here in California!! And y'all do this in spite of ravaging pest infestations, drought and not least of all; the Bill Mill doin everything they can too try and run ya off. (sigh) Love the vids, keep up the great job!! Ag Rocks!!
Came here to learn how to take care of my single almond tree that is producing a lot of almonds. But got hooked on this series. Fascinating! Had no idea so much went into my favorite chipotle flavored Blue Diamond almonds.
I just discovered your channel by watching the Millennial Farmer and Bales Farms video they did about your farm recently. Please don't bother about the way you sound. Please share the passion of your farming operation. Thanks for your videos and i wish i can follow you for a long time.
Thanks for that. I've just bought an Almond tree to plant in a pot (dwarf rootstock). It'd be interesting to know how you prune your almonds? UK here, so a little colder perhaps than yourselves.
My 4yo and I are eating wasabi blue diamond almonds while we’re watching this ❤❤❤ I wanted him to see how much work it takes to grow what we’re eating . thanks for the almonds and the education!
Very true, in a lot of cases land leveling is a huge step! Here we already had very level ground because we were on irrigated cattle pasture. Our next planting of almonds will need more extensive land leveling, so I hope to get some great footage of all the equipment in action!
Thanks for the video. Used to have an almond tree in the backyard when I was a kid 1976 California. Going to be getting me some raw almonds to sprout and grow southwest Arizona.
I was munching on some almonds and was curious about how almonds are produced. Ended up watching this. Thanks for the informative video and for the hard work :)
So you plant them at an angle so the winds straighten them, what keeps them from blowing over after that? Are the roots deep enough at that point to keep them upright?
Great question! We have tree stakes pounded in the ground that are tied to the tree to help keep it from blowing over. Once the tree is a couple of years old, its roots are strong enough to hold itself. We then will remove the stake.
Sir, How many years before the almonds grew ?? Thanks for this information I learned from this video, I wish more videos about almond tree could be uploaded. More Power!
Hi, I’m from fresno, central valley too. I’m going to inhert an almond farm soon. Do you ever do meet and greets and what not ? Would love to learn more about farming.
Just drove thru the Central Valley last week end. My wife was the driver so I could be fascinated with all the farming. I wish that there were signs for us driving by that explained which crops were being grown. It’s important and should be done by the state to educate all of us young and old what farming we are witnessing. It’s important! Hope water gets to you and other farmers. Your work is more important than most people recognize.
Great video bro thanks! Also had a bit of a chuckle of how you kept changing the way you said almond lol, it’s a strange word and have now realised so many different ways to pronounce it hehe 😂
Soil here is aweful grows my flowers with no problems but sooooo many rocks my goodness the deeper you go the more rocks. Gets aggravating when trying to do my flower beds
Lol this message is super late lol about a year late haha. But how did u start. Where did you start. How did you get into the entire business part of it all. What did it take to get things set up and what are the pros and cons if any. Do u homestead as well as this? Lol I could go on and on with questions just because I have been interested lately on pursuing something like this and would really appreciate any kind of knowledge or advice.
The "hull" is used in livestock feeds as it still carries some nutritional value. Shells will get used as bedding for livestock or in landscaping like bark.
Almonds prefer loose, well drained soil. In my opinion, a sandy loam is ideal. Almonds are planted 20-22ft across the row and 14-16ft down the row. For example, if you planted 21 x 15, you would have 138 trees per acre. Tree spacing depends on variety/rootstock, soil type, irrigation system, etc. The trend in the last 10 years is increase the number of trees planted per acre.
We grow winter canola here in West Tennessee and we use bees to pollinate as well. Our bees are from an apiarist in Missouri but they come to us straight from the almond groves in California. Your apiarist isn't from Missouri by chance, is he?
Hi Brother This is Srinivas from India, I am also interested doing videos on farming in my native language for my native people. Here I don’t have contacts with American formers to take videos.. please help me to get the mail help...I am residing at California.. Your videos are really awesome

No wonder almonds cost so much. And I didn't know they were a fruit not a nut. Good stuff here on this channel!
Thanks!
Almonds also grow in plums, and peaches.
Just crack open the shell

Kindly do a video on nutrition for almond trees
I'm actually eating Blue Diamond "spicy dill pickle" flavor right now. I can't wait to try the "ghost pepper" flavor next.
Question... is the outer layer surrounding the almonds used for something else ( recycled) ?
The "hull" is used in livestock feeds as it still carries some nutritional value. Shells will get used as bedding for livestock or in landscaping like bark.
Amazing video
I sure do miss the central valley, maybe you could cover pistachios next.
Hey... what about supper high density almond orchards... can you share your opinion on it.. ?
Good info.❤❤❤ from Indonesia.
I heard when you harvest them you have to knock the “L” out of them!
The squirrels and raccoons eat them
all up how do you prevent that,?
Blue Diamond...yum my favorite. Why are they not considered USDA organic? Are the trees sprayed with insecticides?
If you go check out my sprayer video, you'll see why we have to spray for a pest called navel orange worm.
Howdy! I have two questions. How far apart do you plant the trees? And what kind of soil do almonds like? Thanks for the video.
