It's Best to check where your parking is actually free. I used to park and ride, and if I could get in after 10:00 a.m., I could park for free in lots that are considered reserved. You can get housing without sidewalks; the city requires that you clean the sidewalk within several hours of snow, or you could face a fine. People hurry to get home because it gets cold and icy once the sun goes down. I have had instances where I went home after dark, my vehicle did not start, or the highway was icy.
Apparently in Calgary >>>Remove snow and ice - down to the bare surface - from public sidewalks bordering their private property within 24 hours of a snowfall ending. The fine for a first offense is $250, and the fine increases for repeat offenders. Some town/ciites allow 24-48 hours for removal of ice and snow from public sidewalks bordering their properties.
