    I’ve always loved my zuiko lenses. Their sharpness and color is just wow.
    Loved your review of this lens!

    I'm a big fan of these old 50-55 3.5 macros. They make great general purpose walk around lenses, especially with a cf adapter.

      Absolutely concur. This general spec holds up very well today, and their cost is completely reasonable.

    I've bought this lens, the same variant, in a bundle with OM40, in a really nice condition for a really nice price, course I didn't want yet another 50mm f1,8, and couldn't be happier...

    @0:25 Unlike other lens makers, Nikon named their specialty close up lenses Micro Nikkors. "Macro" was used on their cheaper lenses. This is explained in Tale #25 of the Nikon 1001 Nights series.;

      Thank you and good point. I'd forgotten it was the Micro Nikkor. :D

    If we forget about the extension-tube(s).
    This lens is killer on a M4/3 camera, and costs peanuts compared to the good modern macro-lenses!
    Just a tip for those on a budget...

    If you Combine with Extension Tube 25, it will reach 1:1. Use the zoom macro adapter and it will give reproduction ratio, and is still easy to carry around. Although I have not done so for a while. I have the second iteration of the this lens, and have always enjoyed it.

      Good point and thank you. My big macro-related bugbear is that macro lenses should reach macro in the lens.

    When I disassembled the lens, I confirmed that actually the 4th is the floating one.
    You can even see the 'rails' of the floating element if you look inside the lens from the back and set focus fairly closely.
    And on the note of the floating system: does your copy of the lens have a noticeably more resistance when turning the focus ring from infinity to about 0.7 meters?
    I wonder if I messed something up when I was inside the lens or if it's normal 😅

    • @DavidHancock
      @DavidHancock  11 місяців тому

      Thank you! For the focusing resistance, nope. Mine is even and smooth across the whole range.

    Oh geez - you're messing with my OCD. I can send you a proper Olympus-branded lens cap David.
    I favor the 50mm nFD for the optics vs the Zuiko, but you gotta love the Olympus build quality. My favorite Zuiko is an odd one, the 28-48mm F4, adapted to the PEN-FV. 😊

      @DavidHancock  11 місяців тому +1

      But that would mess up my OCD of having all my lens caps be the same center-pinch cap! :D

      @@DavidHancock Also, I'm testing filmlabapp 3.0 beta. I processed a roll of Kodak Gold with the Easy35 holder-> Camera -> Filmlabapp -> done. I didn't even do anything after that. I had tested Filmlabapp 2.5 and the color wasn't good. I am shocked how much better version 3.0 is. It's on par with NLP and Negmaster now. Unsure whether I will move to use it in my workflow or not. TBD

    Thank you for another great review video! I just managed to get this lens in a location auction along with an OM-10. in the same auction I also got a Canon AE-01 Program with an FD 50mm 1.8. All in good working order although the Canon has some shutter squeak which I will work on. Both cameras probably need seal replacement but I'm looking forward to shooting some film through them both. After watching your review, I may want to get an Olympus adaptor for my Sony A7 III. All your images looked amazing given the lens' age.

      @DavidHancock  10 місяців тому +1

      Thank you! For the Canon squeak, if you haven't seen it, the Fix Old Cameras channel has a great tutorial on that. And for your potential adapter, the OM to E macro adapter is the one I'd go with. That adapter adds a lot of usability to this lens.

      @@DavidHancock Thanks for the information! I have seen the video and need to get the syringe needed to place the oil in the right spot. Fix Old Cameras have some of the best info out there for repairs!
