    Very helpful for those of us "of a certain age". My favorite zoom shortcut is under Accessibility>Zoom, then "use scroll gesture with modifier". I use Control, so all I have to do to quickly scroll in and out is hold down the Control key, then use a 2 finger swipe up or down on the trackpad.

    This is all well and good, but can you increase the system font size for things like the menu bars, the system font for mail (not the viewing window) and the Safari system font menu bars, favourites etc (not the browser window). I will not use Safari because the toolbars are crazily small.

    Hello Gary Even though I increase the zoom percentage on all browsers - Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, the text appears to blurry and distorted. That makes hard to read it on my MacBook Air which I have used and owned for slightly over a year. Do you have any solutions?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Рік тому +1

      Not sure why it is looking blurry for you. Maybe try adjusting your Display resolution in System Settings instead?

  • @LaDivaWorld

    My problem is 4 K/ 43 inch monitor connected to MacPro and screen is displaying the tiny letters/symbols/windows. (Icons are no problem.) Just words like menu options in any app, file names,password entry window, etc. The browser content also does not display properly : the text is in the middle like in a column and then there are two huge empty white areas to the left of it and to the right of it. The content has to naturally spread over in a landscape layout, but instead I am only getting the "portrait" look.
    How do you enlarge the fonts on tabs, menus etc? How do you enlarge the password window? How do you enlarge the System Preference window and the like? Some ppl say you have to deal with system fonts. I am not familiar with that at all. I have used all features in System Preferences windows, even lowered the resolution.I do wish to work in high resolution. And I absolutely hate the zoom-in. It is so bothersome, especially for the program I am using which is Finale, the music notation software. How do I figure this out? I believe it could be done. Again, don't want to opt to low rez, don't want to zoom in/out, maxed out all the features in System Preferences( going from value 12 to value 16 doesn't do anything for a 43 inch screen)
    This is MacPro 5.1, 2012 built, highly customized running OS 10.14.6, Nvidia Quadro 5000. The screen is connected via DP port, display is beautiful otherwise.Lower resolutions do enlarge everything mentioned above, but the browser window still looks awful. Apple no longer supports this unit. I am very frustrated and upset.Please, help. Thank you

    The text on my new 24" imac is smaller than on my 12 yr old 21" imac which is not really a problem. But the text on the new computer is also "lighter" (compared to background). The text on my 12 yr old computer was "darker" and easier to read. Is there something wrong with my new monitor or is there a way to adjust this?

    Is there any easier way like Windows 10, in which we can scale text and icons with a 4k display? I recently shifted from windows to mac and now have problem with text and icons, everything is blurry!

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 роки тому

      Things shouldn't be blurry. Maybe it is the app you are using? Different apps have different ways to zoom the text, etc. Look at my 15 ideas and then experiment and play around with whatever you are trying to do.

    Gary - what would you suggest to increase the font just in my Mac "Contacts". The forums don't seem to think you can put any permanent change in this program and suggest buying another type of Contacts app outside of the one that comes natively with Mac OS X? I just switched everything over to Mac a few months ago!

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 роки тому

      You'll just have to use one of the more general suggestions I show, like zooming. But one trick is to use www.icloud.com/contacts/ instead of the app and then you can change the font size there to make it as big as you want.

    Does changing the default text size effect graphic placing/use in Key Note or other content editable apps?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 роки тому

      It shouldn't change anything IN the content you are creating. Try it and see.

    • @Greg-fg1rd
      @Greg-fg1rd 4 роки тому

      @@macmost You are right. No change.
      I'm trying to send my nieces' some fun animations (made in Key Note )to keep them occupied. I test sent 2 emails to me first to see what they would see. I get the file, open it, then seemingly have access to Key Note. The menu bar, toolbar, everything works. Is that because the computer of origin opened the file, or is that just how it's sent right from Key Note or Pages? I just want the recipient to see the file only. Having the same issue with Zip files.
      I hope you and your family are safe, healthy and getting ready for this nonsense to be over!
      Thank you!
      Greg

    I am fairly certain that nothing can be done with these modern screens they use on MacBooks. maybe in the future when they change monitor technology it will get better.. but looks like it will have to be windows laptop for now.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  11 місяців тому

      "Nothing can be done?" What do you mean by that?

    • @JimSendre
      @JimSendre 11 місяців тому

      It seems to be the case that I'm in minority (but there are many like me), but I find the current MacBook screens unbearable to look at. I returned m1 MacBook Pro because it was causing terrible eye strain, similarly, MacBook Air seems better but not sure if it's worth trying it.
      I have an old MacBook Pro which has non Retina display and it is so much more comfortable for the eyes. what if find with these new screens is that if I look at a word for a moment and then back to white background, I still see the outline of the word. This doesn't happen on the old screen.
      Also, somehow I can go down to very low brightness on the old one, and the contrast is still good enough to read the text on it. But with new one, on low brightness the contrast just isn't good enough and you have to go to higher brightness to be able to read text.
      The old one had TN screen, the MacBook Pro's uses mini-led and MacBook Air ips. But definitely the m1 MacBook Pro had the worst screen for eye strain and many people said it gives them eye strain when they use it.

      @@JimSendre Interesting. It should be the opposite of what you describe. I wonder if you went into an Apple Store and talked to someone there if they may be able to show you a setting or something that you are doing that is different than everyone else that is causing this for you.

    Apple macbooks and especielly macbook pro´s are so expensive, but still they have so bad font smoothing that in many apps the fonts look really bad and it is seriously bad for the eyes. So sad that so good laptops are so bad for the eyes, when in pc word it is so easy to make drispy sharp fonts and it is a joy for eyes.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Рік тому

      Text should look crisp and clear on a MacBook screen. If not, try changing your resolution settings or contacting Apple Support. Or, if it is a specific app with a problem, contact support for that app.
