I’ve heard rumor of a man in Kentucky who might be interested in shooting some heavy rifle cartridges in a pistol format. I’ve also heard he might have a fan or two.
I've mentioned the Contender and Encore in his comments before. I've also mentioned SSK and the 375 JDJ. It would be great to see one of these on his channel!
So good to hear the company is continuing. I have an original Contender like those in 7-30 Waters. It's not a well known caliber. Thanks for bringing it back.
I started out handgun hunting with a TC Contender Super 14” 35 REM in 1982… I have hunted with all sorts of handguns over the next 32 years… You guys made my year by coming back out! I have owned TC products since 1976 and still have an Encore and an Omega Thumbhole laminate on the rack.
I own a .308 pistol barrel for my encore, unbelievable how easy it is to shoot and how accurate it is. It’s actually very pleasant to shoot and it shocks people that think you’re crazy for wanting to shoot a rifle cartridge in a pistol!
3 Contender frames , (13 barrels ) , an Encore , ( 4 barrels ) , a TCR83 , ( 3 barrels ) and a renegade .50 rifle..... do I qualify as a fan ? Great news you are back !!!
The 30-30 win in a Contender is an amazing hunting gun. I grew up watching Larry Weishuhn with his contender pistol on TV every fall in Texas rattling big bucks into range of his 30-30 pistol. I hunted with one for a few years and it was a blast. I still know a lot of Bowhunters that will put down the bow during gun season and pick up a Contender or Contender carbine.
Very glad you are back. The 223 I can see but the 06 is such a waste in that platform unless all you need is recoil and muzzle blast from unburned powder. I have K-Hornet, 6TCU and 357max. All efficient in short barrels.
Been a Contender fan for decades. It's a terrible addiction.... 2 frames (first gen), 14" .223, 14" .30-30, 14" .44 mag, 10" .22 LR, 10" .357 mag, 10" .45 Colt. Thinking about a 7-30 Waters. Glad to see them back.
So glad T/C is back, I've wanted one of the pink/black rifle/muzzleloaders for years. I was super disappointed when the company was killed, thank you for bringing it back!!
Would read and dream about owning one of these pistols in the magazines growing up. I now own a few and they are as advertised! Got room in the safe for more and am excited that Mr. Ritz is resurrecting the company!
I had a 430JDJ many years ago. Deer hunted with it some. It was a 14 inch barrel so recoil wasn't bad at all. So glad TC is back. Thank you Greg Ritz!!!!!
I own a 375 JDJ that is still new in box, a 14 inch which is a re-chambered 44 Magnum by JDJ at SSK, also a 45/70 with a 16 inch barrel, and a 223 with 16 inch barrel. I was 70 the last time I shot the 444 marlin. The only one I am keeping is the 223. Enjoyed the video, Thank You !
Greg mentioned in a podcast that they intend to do some custom calibers and barrels. Likely even CF wrapped barrels. I’d really like to a 10” encore barrel chambered in 41mag, and later a muzzle loader in .40 with a super fast twist, and CF wrapping.
@@soonerfrac4611 The 41 magnum is my favorite handgun. I have a 4" that I bought 30 years. I have a 44 magnum as well, but can shoot the 41much better. Thank You for the information.
First pistol I ever purchased, a Ruger Blackhawk in 41 with 6.5” barrel. By and far my favorite magnum. I need Marlin to reintroduce the 1894S & FG in 41. The Swiss issued custom integrally suppressed bolt action in 41 using super heavy loads officially for “anti material” in the Swiss stay behind forces.
@@TheBoardingBadgers I believe it is a 14 ". It has never been mounted on a recover. I did buy two new boxes of shells at the time as well. I still have everything.
Man, there are so many people who are happy to see T/C back in business! Hope it goes well for you. (I have an original G2 10" in 5mm Remington Rimfire Magnum...love it.)
I had a 45-70 barrel and a couple more in rifle calibers, and the 45-70 was a beast. Initially, I could shoot 5 or 6 rounds then the recoil got to me. I sent it off to Magnaport and when it was returned I could shoot a dozen rounds w/500gr bullets. That was a hand cannon.
You would not have the Contender G-2, or the Encore, if JD Jones at SSK Industries had not scared the crap out of the lawyers with what he was putting through a old style contender. Never blew one up though. It says way more about TCA quality than it does about Jones' good sense.
My favorite handgun caliber with the Encore is 22-250. With the factory Muzzle Tamer it can be the most handy rifle you can imagine. Noisy as all get out, only with good hearing protection!
So glad TC is coming back! I have many of your muzzleloader and an Encore that I love. Can’t wait to see your new products and add them to my collection. Would love to see a video where you discuss your plans and timing of product release.
I bought my encore about 22 years ago and to this day unless I am hunting dove, it’s just about the only gun I take to the field. So happy to hear that they are coming back. I hope now there will be options for T/C Barrels that come from the factory threaded for muzzle brakes or where legal suppressors.
@@tombogan03884 So you may not be aware that S&W created a Encore that was just a Muzzle loader ONLY platform. The barrels ARE NOT interchangeable as they're on the "Pro Hunter" platform. This was another one of S&W STUPID IDEAS. And is likely what this gentleman is trying to work around. FYI, There are also some "Legal" issues there also. Those "Muzzle loader Only" Rifles did NOR fall under the BATFE requirements to have to fill our a 4473 on. Because they couldn't be converted into a modern Rimfire or Center Fire Firearm. Thus making a barrel that would fit that frame would make the BATFE recognize them as a firearm that falls into that category of needing a 4473 filled out to purchase one. And its not just as easy as serializing a replacement barrel. Im fairly sure those frames are not rated for those larger caliber also.
I started shooting these in the late 80s and here's what I learned. This will make you a better handgun shooter this will make your accuracy better cuz it's single action. If your eyesight is up to par if you can see it with iron sights you can hit it. I figure it's most effective range for most people with most eyesight tops out at 200 yards. That's with iron sights of course. Rate of fire is slow so a little bit of ammo goes a long way. You could literally carry this in the shoulder holster thunder your jacket capable as a rifle
If you want free advertising send a few guns to Scott aka Kentucky Ballistics. I’m sure he’d love to get his hands on some bigger caliber pistols and be happy to advertise the brand coming back :)
I have the gen2 prohunter rifle and pistol in 7mm08 and was just starting to add some barrels when It was shut down. I am so excited to see what’s coming for TC.
Outstanding! It is great to see Thompson Encore and Contender back on the market. I haven't followed this much so I don't know if all of the Thompson products are coming back. I would like to see them.
I have the 223 and 308 pistol barrels for my Encore. The 223 is just a bump, and I have target patches that have 3 holes in from 100 yards. I can't do that with the 308. I've never used it with a scope, just a red dot, and I always know what's coming next. I wouldn't say I flinch, but I am just not that interested in precisely where it's pointed. Opposing the recoil isn't a good idea. I never shoot the 308 off the rest. I shoot it 1 handed, dueling style. Firm grip and loose elbow and let it climb. I'd done various things that hurt, like supporting the bottom of the grip with my off hand, or resting my elbows on the bench. Nope. Skinned elbows and left palm felt like I hit it with a 2x4. I bought the 308 because the people next to me were shooting an AR-15 and the owner was saying "Be a man! Shoot the big gun." I was at Chabot, now closed, and there was a gun show in San Francisco that day, so I packed up, dropped my rifles at home, went to the show and bought the 308. I was looking for the 45-70, thank God they didn't have it. Back home to pick up the Encore and some 223 and 308 ammo. Back at the range lunch was over and they had resumed. I fired the 223 a few times, single hole groups on the 50 yard range where they were shooting. Then switched to the 308 and Federal Light Magnum loads. Over the next 20 minutes I tried a number of methods to reduce the pain. No resting elbows on the bench, no isosceles stance, no supporting with the off hand. Then I offered Mr "Be a Man" the opportunity to try it. I got him to shut the hell up without ever needing to actually challenge his masculinity. He would not accept advice on how to shoot it, and suffered as a result. He wouldn't shoot it a second time. Anyway, not the worst thing I have shot. That's the 44 magnum Derringer. I don't suppose you'd say where you shoot. I am just down the road from Rochester, towards Portsmouth, and don't have a good range to shoot at.
i am super stoked to see Thompson come back. i LOVE these guns. my kids grew up shooting the 22lr barrel at the range. set a box of 50 in front of them, and sit back and watch the magic. i love what i do for work....but my dream job would be working toward something that leaves a legacy. SUPER happy to see these new videos/news! any plans to bring back the 22 LR kids' rifle? it is desperately needed!
@@TCArmsCo even a 22 barreled contender does the trick. Mine used to use my 10 inch pistol off sandbags. The hours of shooting enjoyment my family has had with various t/c configurations is vast. I know there are probably a million and 1 things on your “to do” list, but when the time is right, please consider something on the traditional muzzleloader side.
A few years ago I did a scope mount on an Encore barrel for a local gunsmith. His customer had a barrel in .416 Rigby. That is one I would not even think about shooting. I personally have a JD Jones Contender barrel in .50/70 Govt. Barrel is throated to be able to use 750 grain BMG slugs. Now that is a hand cannon especially in a 7 inch barrel. Yes, I do shoot that one very infrequently. The .45/70 is potent enough. I also have a JD Jones Contender barrel in .444 Marlin. Good to see TC Arms coming back alive. S&W didn't do them any justice.
I love the Contender! First one i bought was a Armor Alloy version with 3 barrels. I now have 7 AA barrels 3 blue frames and many barrels in standard and wildcat calibers
Can't believe you didn't go for the .460 or 500 S&W instead! It would be awesome if you guys at T/C could talk with Lyman and see if they would reissue the Pachmayr Decelerator Grip for the Encore again, it really helps with the hard kicking calibers on my two Encores!
Happy to see T/C back. I would love to see the company take the opportunity to add a little innovation to the ML sector. 1-28 twist rates in 50 cals are a real hindrance to bullet design. I’d love to see a long barreled (32-36in) inline ML with a faster twist that can accommodate longer, sleeker bullets instead of the currently crude methods manufacturers are pushing for long range performance: build a stronger gun so you can cram as much BH209 in as your shoulder can handle.
If you want modern performance buy a modern rifle. Muzzle loaders have a certain aesthetic. We used to call that stupid "Omega sealed breech" the cutting end of obsolete technology. I built the fixtures, and made the breeches. They didn't seal squat. There is an obvious gap on the left side of every one of them.
Glad to see TC come back to life I have 2 of the older models and big brother have 2 of the older ones I can shoot from 22 hornet to 300 win mag love to have one of the shirts thanks for bringing back the dead
Glad to see Thompson Center back. I have the Omega 50 cal ML in stainless its a great gun. My son has 2 Encores one registered as a rifle and one as a pistol. That way he can mix barrels with both.
I had a G1 in 35 Remington that I hand loaded for back in the 80s. I had to sell all my firearms to keep my home. I hope TC Arms makes a barrel either in 350 legend or 360 buckhammer.
I got to fire one a few years ago. A buddy of mine got one in a trade. We fired for a full day at the river mostly using my guns and teaching a couple younger kids firearm safety. Then at the end we pulled out the Thompson... chambered in 45/70. WHAT A CANNON! Yeah it almost got away from me. He had a few other barrels but I'll never forget that 45/70.
Over a hundred doesn't even come close. I have .223, 7mm TCU, .375 Winchester, .22 long rifle, and .22 Mag. My local gun shop just bought a collection from the previous owner's widow, and has a dozen guns and barrels in at least 40 different calibers just for the contender.
I have a K-Hornet carbine barrel and kick myself for not getting a 24" 6TCU barrel when they were under $300. Now they are outrageous. That Fireball would be a Hoot!!!
This is a TRUE story. I fired one (30.06) in a TC in 1981. It was a custom barrel made by Mike Plaxco (yeah, "that" Mike Plaxco), my friend had it made and I fired it as a skinny ass, about 145lb kid at 15 I think I was. I remember it making dust lift from the road in front of me from the barrel shock-wave!
I highly recommend focusing on a product line for suppressed subsonic calibers. Think +300grain big-bore bullets going subsonic with a barrel threaded for suppressors. You honestly would not have to change much, this product line would mostly be a PR campaign to get suppressed TC handguns, SBRs and carbines in the hands of gun-tubers. Personally i'd really like to get a 16" threaded 8.6blackout barrel for my Encore.
Glad to see you back. Looking forward to seeing the guns on the shelf. In the G2 is there going to be a 500 SW? 22 hornet. 556 -7/57-8/57-303 British-762/39-762/54R-. When you bring them back if you wanna knock the socks off do something from the past put high quality iron sights and drilled and tapped. Calibers listed above we want them in the single shot and bolt guns. All the classic rounds .30.06-300WM-338 WM-348WM-358WM-222 Remington. 459/348 WM. 6.5/55 Swede . Need a single barrel shotgun - no choke tubes.10 gauge -12-28-16-410 with a 503.5 inch chamber. All 410s covered. No guns here for the 24 and 32 gauge. You build we will buy. With iron sights. .
If T/C wants to do something innovative give us an ultralight mountain rifle in small G1 frame and G2 frame. Its got to be ultralight and the ability to break it down easily and throw it in a case or pack would be a nice touch. Nobody in the market is doing this.
Years ago I had a G2 with a 24" MGM barrel in .45 Colt and walnut carbine stocks. I had a 2X Leupold ultralight scope on it. That rifle only weighed 4.5 lbs. I foolishly sold it but would love to get something like that again.
My father worked at T/C from the late 70s until S/W took it to MASS. He told me some stories about the folkes whose job it was to sight the guns in for quality testing, imagine shooting a 45-70 out a G1 Contender over and over.
Love my TCs!! Hardly wait to get a new Encore!! Oh yea!!! God bless you man!! I knew when SW took over we were screwed!!! Bring all the Contender barrels back!! Every caliber!! Like a kid in a candy shop!!!🎉🎉
Love the contender pistols . I had a early 45c and 410 in a 12 in barrel . The only 45c i could get were not what i wanted . I got into reloading and and a worked up a 300gr HTP at a good velocity put a scope on it and could make a mellon hit at 100 yds . Wish i still had it . Still have the reloadin for it .
Back in the 1990s I had a Magnum Research Lone Eagle cannon breech 12” pistol in .308 Winchester. It was a hand-cannon to say the least, and hands down the worst trigger ever made for any gun on the planet. A novelty really. I can only imagine a 30-06 TC pistol. Thanks for the review video.
I was going to look on Gunbroker looking for a used Encore and some barrels, but now that T/C is coming back, I'm going to wait for a new one. Hope they make a 7x57 MM barrel.

I loved my encore.. please bring back the walnut stock. I'm a wood stock fan. Every nick, scratch, and dent is a memory.
i have the 50cal rifle in walnut and the 7mm08
pistol in walnut
Love my Contender & Encore !
Encore Pro Hunter 30.06 is my go to every deer season. Also, those pines, that sky and that dirt look very New Hampshire-y :) Makin me miss home.
A 1 in 26" barrel has some great advantages
Glad to see TC come back to life I have 2 of the older models and big brother have 2 of the older ones I can shoot from 22 hornet to 300 win mag love to have one of the shirts thanks for bringing back the dead
Have a 222 in the contender and a 45-70 in encore and a bad ass deer gun for the straight wall cartridge states!
I have a magnaported TC contender chambered in 308 with a scope. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE that gun.
I love my contender. I need to find a 30-30 carbine barrel
Glad to see Thompson Center back. I have the Omega 50 cal ML in stainless its a great gun. My son has 2 Encores one registered as a rifle and one as a pistol. That way he can mix barrels with both.
I was fortunate to find a 260 Rem. 13 inch ported barrel for my Encore.
Very accurate. I nicknamed it Thunder.
Gregg, you are having way too much fun! Keep up the good work!
Nice to see Thompson Center back. Hope you bring back the traditional line as well!!
Welcome back T/C! Just a reminder, while shooting offhand, there's a forearm on the gun for a reason. Give it a try. It makes life better! 😂
My old 308 Encore was my go to 200 meter Steel Ram gun
Love the video! Now, to the more important matter, I need a rifle length barrel for a contender in 221 Fireball. Help me out, brother!
Great video, looking forward to seeing these on shelf soon.!!
I'm very glad to see you brought TC back. Outstanding! Now to find the Contender in stock somewhere.
Would be awesome to see threaded barrels on new factory options.
Early 80's I shot a 14" Contenter 14" in 35 Rem for IHMSA , 40 rounds one hand creedmore position left a bruised elbow and hip.
Love TC... I have one of the Contender Hunter packages from the early 90s chambered in 45/70. Its a beast but one of my favorite all time guns!!
GREAT VIDEO THANK YOU SIR
My father worked at T/C from the late 70s until S/W took it to MASS. He told me some stories about the folkes whose job it was to sight the guns in for quality testing, imagine shooting a 45-70 out a G1 Contender over and over.
I have the 222 up tp the 45-70 love the gun. Thanks for bringing it back.
Watching this makes me want a G2 Contender with a 6mm ARC barrel. That would be a very fun pistol, especially with an EOTech or fixed power 4x scope.
Would love to see a video of how to change the hammer spring on these
My brother had a ported 14" in .303 British, due to the porting it was "manageable"😊
That was Awesome!!
Can't wait to own a TC ..
🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🏻👍🏻
I was so bummed out when smith let t/c die. I am an old school contender guy. I have hunted so many things with the contender.
A good handful of the older Cabela’s hunting video games had that exact same Contender pistol in them.
First pistol I ever bought was a Super 14 in 223.
Sold all of mine when I went into the military in 1993😢 ! So this is great news 😂❤❤❤❤!
Love my contender great to see thompson coming back
Got a 45-70 unported super 14. Hot loads tells the 500 smith to "hold my beer"
Love my TCs!! Hardly wait to get a new Encore!! Oh yea!!! God bless you man!! I knew when SW took over we were screwed!!! Bring all the Contender barrels back!! Every caliber!! Like a kid in a candy shop!!!🎉🎉
Ya I’m excited about tc being back.
I have an encore 50 cal ml
Venture 22-250
Venture 204
Compass 6.5 creedmoor
All tack pounders
The trigger assembly and
placement look interesting.
Glad to hear you got out of that S&W debacle 🙂
Love the contender pistols . I had a early 45c and 410 in a 12 in barrel . The only 45c i could get were not what i wanted . I got into reloading and and a worked up a 300gr HTP at a good velocity put a scope on it and could make a mellon hit at 100 yds . Wish i still had it . Still have the reloadin for it .
My first TC Contender was a 458x2 American that I bought in the early 80's. wish I never sold it
Contender is on my wish list!
Cant Wait for the New Models to Try!
I have a "Few" Encores LOL
Back in the 1990s I had a Magnum Research Lone Eagle cannon breech 12” pistol in .308 Winchester. It was a hand-cannon to say the least, and hands down the worst trigger ever made for any gun on the planet. A novelty really. I can only imagine a 30-06 TC pistol. Thanks for the review video.
I was going to look on Gunbroker looking for a used Encore and some barrels, but now that T/C is coming back, I'm going to wait for a new one. Hope they make a 7x57 MM barrel.
