So good you guys finally get a ride in the amazing adventure of The Expanse. The start is somehow slow but in the 4th episode the show takes off in a rollercoaster.
To any of the new viewers who are starting the show because of Blind Wave, keep going till AT LEAST episode 4 before you decide whether or not to continue. The show gets better and better as it goes on, but most people usually find episode 4 as the point where they really get hooked. Also, because the show is adapting a book series, the pacing of the show might feel odd compared to the season structure. Book 1 is covered from S1 to mid S2, Book 2 is covered from then on till mid S3, and then Book 3 is the rest of S3. From then on, it's pretty much 1 season / 1 book. So if you're still unsure by the end of S1, I'd say watch at least the first "book" before deciding.
Hm, probably a good advice, because I dropped the show after season 1, even though I really liked the concept itself. Maybe I should just read the book :)
@@martophrenia Yeah, the season 1 finale kind of felt anti-climactic but that makes way more sense when you realise that it's only about 2/3 of the way through the first book. The ACTUAL conclusion of the first book is season 2 ep. 5, and holy shit! The conclusion to that arc is amazing!
Also, ships flip around halfway through their voyage and burn to slow down, simulating gravity by the deceleration against the floors. I've seen so many reactors wonder why ships on this show always approach planets with their engines firing at their destination. The problems of "realistic" space travel make for a great TV show when taken seriously.
When I found that out for the first time I felt like a moron. It makes so much sense and is also why I consider Alex one of the best if not the best scifi spaceship pilot.
@watashi We are talking about the series which takes a more simplified approach, I've read the books as well, but this translates well to the live action.
9:30 - A small detail I missed when I first watched the show, in our first introduction to Earth Avasarala's grandson is playing with water like it's nothing (with the water balloon). It juxtaposes perfectly with life in the belt where water is precious. Like no belter kid is running around throwing water balloons.
I actually gasped when I saw the notification. Like Black Sails more people should be reacting to this show and you’re gonna kick yourselves for not doing it sooner.
remember how the guys got so obsessed with black sail, they made that "music" video with them dressed as pirates? willing to bet they'll eventually start talking in belter creole.
I was so happy when i saw it, it's been THE series that i've been thinking Blind Wave should watch for a while now, with politics on par with Game of Thrones
Just one clarification. You mentioned the lower class belters living "down there" and the higher class living "up here" It's actually the opposite. The higher class lives on the outer edges of Ceres where the spin gravity is strongest. "down" is the outside skin of the asteroid. The lower classes live closer to the core where spin gravity isn't as strong and the coriolis effect is stronger. They actually live higher "up" relative to the spin gravity.
And the coriolis is a LOT worse if you live near the poles. Almost zero spin gravity, and you always feel like you're being tossed to one side of the room.
@@thontor Spoiler Alert: That's mostly accurate, but some of the 'underworld-type' characters usually hollow out hidden safe rooms and boltholes in higher latitudes. Can't say more without giving spoilers (Book 5).

"I love this lady!" You are sooo going to love her more after this series. Expanse spaceships obey the rules of physics. You want gravity...you have to be under acceleration. Their fusion drives *do* allow them to be under almost continual acceleration though.

@@travisspazz1624 It's hard to think of The Expanse in terms of seasons, since Season 2's first half is still season 1's story and Season 3's first half is still Season 2's story. It's pretty weird, is Season 4 like that or is it finally telling just 1 book a season.

At best its a top 3 sci-fi show of the past few years, but the people proclaiming it as the "greatest sci-fi of our time" take it a tad too far in my opinion. Crazy you posted this video today! I've been wanting to get into The Expanse myself and started it last night and wow do I love it! The Expanse was one of our Quarantine shows. It's a fun ride!!
The worldbuilding in this show is fenomenal!
Really happy you guys are starting this show. I think it'll be right in your wheel house. Characters, world building, plot, dialogue, and conflicts. All amazing.
The Expanse finally won! O_O
man you guys are in for a masterpiece! You have no idea how epic this is gonna get.
FINALLY IT'S HERE> The perfect Blind Wave show.
Crazy you posted this video today! I've been wanting to get into The Expanse myself and started it last night and wow do I love it! Most sci-fi stories seem to focus on the aliens and the action but this really boils it down to a human element of "what would life actually be like as we start to expand across our solar system?" I'm definitely hooked!
I haven't seen Calvin this excited in a long time.
Calvin: "is it something which eats radiation?"
I see Calvin is going detective mode on this one
Edit: Well shit, The Expanse has just been cancelled again 😢
That was pretty slick
He really is. Noticed the sea-level is higher right away too. I hope he keeps it up.
It's good to have Detective Calvin back in action.
isnt Calvin's significant other doing reactions to the Expanse and is already in season 3?
Oh, is that her? I never made that connection!
OH MY GOD IT'S HAPPENING, I VOTED FOR IT SO MANY TIMES!!!!!!
OMG You're reacting to The Expanse!! I've been waiting so long for this. I'm so excited :)
Dude I only discovered The Expanse this summer and got HOOKED. First season was good, but damn season two dragged me like a bad opinion post on Facebook.
Me it last year! I got it bad now!
Have been waiting for this for so long... thank you Patreon crew, you voted well!
OMFG, we finally won the poll! Also finally Carmen will have Calvin to babble about the show. :D
Oh hell yes, I am so here for this series! Been hoping you'd do this show for ages.
Since we were never getting Galactica, I'm ok with this.
You guys are gonna LOVE this series.
Best Sci-fi series ever made so far!
Can't believe it's finally happening.
This is soooooo exciting!! Put on your seatbelts! You’re in for a wild ride! It’s also very difficult to figure out!! I look forward to seeing your reactions and theories!
You will soon find out for yourselves, the Expanse has been acclaimed as one of the best and realistic space dramas to date by many fans and casual viewers....and so it begins...lol
Remember Black sails or G O T , it has that type of expectation as it goes along
Can't wait for y'all to go on this journey this show just gets bigger and better every episode
Florence Faivre (Julie Mao) is in Agents Of SHIELD as Sinara...
Glad to see you boys getting on board finally with the expanse. Amazing series and even more amazing book series.
Fun Fact.... The actress who plays Julie Mao here also played the Kree with the killer balls over in Agents of Shield.
Your questions and confusion are so cute to those of us who have seen the show already.
Good excuse for me to pick up the show, haven’t had the motivation to start it yet.
Please do! You won't regret it!
Please give it at least four episodes. Once you do, the show does not stop. Greatest sci-fi show of all time.
You will not be disappointed! Amazing show!
Ok yeah, it’s good.
So excited to see you guys starting this show. It’s amazing!
There's a reason this is called Game of Thrones in space.
GoT crashed and burned though. Lets not attach bad omens to this scrumptious piece of sci fi goodness.
@@sabothbrainiac5844 I agree, but The Expanse did right where GoT got wrong. That said, the comparison fits, b/c like GoT, one should not get attached. :)
Holden looks a LOT like John Snow
Yeah, people need to stop comparing every show that has some politics in it with GOT...
@@Bayard1503 Well best you tell the producers who, when the show began, called it exactly that. Further, they also compared it to BSG, which is an equally apt comparison.
I've never clicked on any other video so fast in my life! I LOVE THIS SHOW and I'm so glad you guys are gonna experience it as well.
The whole Canterbury thing was insane in the book because they made it look like they were just gonna incapacitate the ship and take the people hostage, but then they say it got fucking NUKED
