When Holden says _"She's gone"_ , He's actually talking about the big ship, The Canterbury. It is naval tradition to refer to ships as female. 'She was a fine ship!' But it is a natural thing, and probably a planned moment of dramatic confusion that you would also think he is referring to his girlfriend since she was cut short as she was telling him something important. You are starting something truly brilliant! You will very quickly become addicted to this show. If I could offer any advise, it would be to never ever take your eyes off the screen! You don't want to miss a single frame of this wonderfully produced drama.

There's a double meaning to "She's gone". It's very common for sailors in English to refer to ships as "She" even though we don't gender nouns in the language. So the viewer isn't supposed to know if Holden is referring to his girlfriend or the ship in that moment, and neither does the crew with him.
"She" is a pronoun used for ships. Holden is from Earth, as is Amos. Alex (with the drawl) is actually a Martian from Mariner Valley, and Naomi is a Belter as is Shed (the "sort-of" doctor). Josephus Miller is a burned-out detective working for the Star Helix security company in Ceres. And the woman that you meet on Eath is Chrisjen Avarsarela who is the Deputy Undersecretary for Defense with the United Nations. Part of the confusion is that in order to introduce all of the important characters from the books, the show-runners had to blend the first two novels into one stream from the beginning of the series.
Holden is from Montana, not the detective on Ceres. Holden was the one who just promoted to XO on the Cant/the leader on the ship that left the Cant. Also, so smart of you to go back and rewatch the beginning. I remember doing the same thing in order to keep up. Lol

Ceres had ice, however, it was mined for use as fresh water for Earth and Mars. So now ships like the Canterbury make regular trips to Saturn to pick up ice from the rings and transport it back to Ceres, most of which gets shipped on to Earth/Mars.
It clearly refers to both the ship and Ade. It's just good writing to include double meanings like this. And this show has no shortage of that pattern.
"For all mankind" is amazing and comes highly recommended! It's definitely a special treat for spaceflight nerds because a lot of the attention is on crafting a detailed, realistic alternate history of the space race, but it's really enjoyable for everyone - a lot of great character development. Also hugely underrated, so I'd love to see you check it out some day.
here i am slowly being weaned out of The Expanse and moving on with my life. All my favorite reactors were done. I was gonna move on to a world without the show. And then this happened. Guess we're starting from the beginning...
I’m so happy you’re starting this, I haven’t watched any of the shows you’ve been reacting to lately so I’m so glad to be watching your reactions again :) This is the best sci fi franchise for sure Also “Is she queen of earth?” Is the best first impression ever
I have subscribed to your channel for this show, the moment I found your reactions. It's my #1 top TV show. I'll be here watching and following your enjoyment. The Expanse is a scientifically accurate show, they do the math and work out how many things would behave IRL. Beyond that, the characters drive this show. The relationships and personalities are some of the best written I've ever seen.
best Sci-Fi series I have ever watched. The visuals and story is top notch. It gives you a feeling how big everything is or how small we are. There is also one episode, I think it was in Season 3 which is maybe the best Sci-Fi episode ever done - it was breathtaking.
I'm so excited to see you guys start this. I've been wanting y'all to watch this for years. You're in for what is the best sci-fi experience on TV in recent years.
I'm a bit late to this, but so glad you're reacting to this! One of the best SF shows ever; and you're right - space is terrifying, and that is something that is going to underlie just about every episode.
I'm delighted to see that you are reacting to the best sci-fi series ever! When I saw how happy you were to see “Mike,” my immediate thought was, “Don't get too attached.” You did a great job getting a handle on the world building going on in this first episode. I remember being were you two are now. It's gonna be fun watching you get to where we long-time fans are. You're gonna love The Expanse!
Ooo this is gonna be good!!! This is a great show for your theory crafting! Btw, Ceres is a dwarf planet in the asteroid belt. Look it up, its pretty cool.
Welcome to The Expanse! I loved your reactions! One of you clearly stated part of the answer to this initial mystery of the show! The Canterbury was purposefully destroyed to spark the war. Well played, girl! Being an ice hauler, the ship was a vital part of the machinery of survival for Belters by supplying water to Ceres Station. Ceres is a dwarf planet and basically the Capitol of the Asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Yes, the show is super information dense. Even to the point that every screen you see will have some sort of info to help understand the plot and the universe better. I've seen the series three times and still see things I've missed. The Expanse...of space. Living in, surviving in, or dying in, the expanse of space. I like to describe The Expanse as if Battlestar Galactica and Game of Thrones had a secret love child, it would be The Expanse. Sasa- Belter Creole, meaning "know" Belter Creole, often referred to simply as "Belter," is the cultural language spoken by many Belters. The Belter name for the language itself is Lang Belta. During humanity's expansion into the solar system, people from many different parts of Earth or Mars often lived and worked together, and they developed a pidgin language to communicate with one another. Over time, this developed into a full-fledged creole language, lang Belta, which became the lingua franca, a common tongue of the Belt and the outer planets. As a creole language, Lang Belta is primarily derived from English, with influences and contributions from languages of many different families, such as Germanic, Chinese, Romance, Indic, Slavic, and Niger-Congo. Many of its words were derived from words or phrases in one or more of these languages. There is a Belter Creole translator online. UA-cam hates links, or I'd post it for ya. I think they used Jonathan Banks, Mike from Breaking Bad, almost like click bait. Have him in the first episode, but kill him off at the end of that episode. When James said, "They nuked her." I think k he was talking about the Canterbury, but then he said, "She's gone." I feel like then he was speaking of Ade. ✌
best sci fi series by far, every season just keeps getting better and better, and it doesn't matter how many times you rewatch, each time it will surprice you more by how amazing its is, and what you missed.
When Holden said, "She's gone," that was the reference to the Canterbury itself...ships are referred to as "she." This is a very well-developed story. It began as a role-playing game, then became a popular novel series (the final book of the novels has just been published). The original creators of the game and novels are also producers and writers of the television series. This means that they know their story very well, and they have sprinkled foreshadowings and clues to future episodes throughout. You have already seen clues to future seasons. The episodes are very information-dense. They don't hold your hand, they don't tell you things twice. They show you what you will need to know, but you have to pay attention. Even computer screens in the background contain clues to events of future episodes.
Wait. What? OMG! Yes! This is going to be fun. And by the time you finish the series, you will be experts on the layout of Sol (Solar) System, the asteroid belt, the outer planets, the inner planets, the moons of particular planets, the names of specific asteroids, the physics of space, the vacuum of space and so many other things.
The Expanse is the best sci-fi series I've ever watched. It's been described as "Game of Thrones in space" (minus the terrible last season). I really love the human side of it, how it shows the best and worst of human behaviour, how humanity is its own worst enemy, and our efforts to overcome that when it's necessary to work together. Also, the show does diversity in casting _right,_ in a way that doesn't feel forced or preachy. It's also a show with excellent character development and its female characters are multidimensional badasses that rival (and I think they even outshine) its male characters. You are going to love it.
In ancient Roman religion, Ceres (/ˈsɪəriːz/ SEER-eez, was a goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships.[3] She was originally the central deity in Rome's so-called plebeian or Aventine Triad, then was paired with her daughter Proserpina in what Romans described as "the Greek rites of Ceres". Ceres (/ˈsɪəriːz/;[17] minor-planet designation: 1 Ceres) is a dwarf planet in the asteroid belt between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Ceres was the first asteroid discovered, on 1 January 1801
18:00 Real life facts: Ceres is the largest object in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It is at the same time the largest asteroid we know in the solar system and one of the confirmed dwarf planets (the others are Eris and Pluto). There are several other objects that are considered to be dwarf planets by many astronomers but are not confirmed as such yet: Haumea, Makemake, Quaoar, Sedna, Orcus and Gonggong. In additon there are several objects that have been proposed as dwarf planets by some astronomers but are disputed by others. With the exception of Ceres all of the possible candidates are Kuiper belt objects (the Kuiper Belt is another asteroid belt at a much larger distance from the sun - Pluto is part of the Kuiper Belt at the inner side of the belt) or part of the scattered disc isolated objects beyond the Kuiper Belt.
Welcome! To the fan base, and to the best sci-fi show this century. (And yes, I loved BSG!) All will become clear, so don't worry about being confused - you're supposed to be. Subbed for this. The girl was the daughter of the owner of a Luna-based Earth Corp. The detective is on Ceres, a dwarf planet and the largest body in the belt. A million people live there. All of the locations are real life solar system locations.

Love The Expanse best adaption! So something to know about belters. They are taller due to weak gravity, also their bones are less dense and standing on Earth 1g for them would feel like crushing their bodies. So Belters are very tall and slim in the books but in the show not all are but some. Also, Martian in the books are taller too Mars has like 1/3 gravity of Earth. And then there is Earth. With 1G. Also to say something first episode are a bit rough but don't worry it gets so much better and interesting.
All the places mentioned in the show are real moons or astroids in out solar system, so google the names of you want to know more about them... For example, Ceres is a dwarf planet in the asteroid belt that scientists theorize could be mined for water since it's made of ice.

The Expanse is my favorite show, and its fan community is one of the best. And this is a great reaction. You are picking up on pretty much everything the show is showing you in terms of story, and this first season it is set up as a mystery. Don't worry about not getting everything immediately. There's a bunch of world building that needs to happen still, and they love to show you how stuff works, rather than tell you. If you feel you're confused, there is a good chance the writers want you to be, so just let it play out. Enjoy the ride!

9:30 that arm in the ice accident, it was actually supposed to be a much more terrifying injury, in my opinion, but showing it would mess up the pace of the episode, so they changed it. originally the guy's hand got squished against a wall by a several-dozen-ton single chunk of asteroid moving at like 0.1 meters per second (10 centimeters or approximately 3 inches (i think) per second)

This is literally the only reactors i've seen actually keep up. I'm following.
OMG! I am SO psyched you two are doing this show! This is Awesome! It is simply the best Sci-Fi out there.
Is this really happening? I must be dreaming omg my fav show and my fav reactors. You just made my whole year 😍😍😍😍
OH MY GOD I CANT BELIEVE YOU STARTED THE EXPANSE OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG I LOVE YOU
omg! didn't expect to see expanse reacted to but I'm glad you're both watching this!
Haha I know the feeling lol
I’m so happy you’re starting this, I haven’t watched any of the shows you’ve been reacting to lately so I’m so glad to be watching your reactions again :)
This is the best sci fi franchise for sure
Also “Is she queen of earth?” Is the best first impression ever
I have subscribed to your channel for this show, the moment I found your reactions. It's my #1 top TV show. I'll be here watching and following your enjoyment. The Expanse is a scientifically accurate show, they do the math and work out how many things would behave IRL. Beyond that, the characters drive this show. The relationships and personalities are some of the best written I've ever seen.
Yes!! Woohoo! So glad you two are gonna do this show. Trust us when we say you're gonna love it. Welcome to the world of The Expanse!
best Sci-Fi series I have ever watched. The visuals and story is top notch. It gives you a feeling how big everything is or how small we are.
There is also one episode, I think it was in Season 3 which is maybe the best Sci-Fi episode ever done - it was breathtaking.
I was about to go to bed!
I can't now that you've posted this.
I am SO happy you're both watching The Expanse. It's so good. SO GOOD!
Omg this is one of my favorites, so happy you guys are watching this.
OHHHH SHIETTTT!!! The Expanse greatness!!
***Nux's voice*** "What a day, what a lovely day!!"
Sasa- Belter Creole, meaning "know"
Belter Creole, often referred to simply as "Belter," is the cultural language spoken by many Belters.
✌
So happy to see this! Thank you both!
Wow this is so unexpected. One of my favorite sci-fi shows ever. It would also be great if you react to DARK (in case you haven't watched it).
lola already watched it. you can see their tier list video where they name every show they have watched
@@becauseofobi-wan3543 unfortunately 😕
best sci fi series by far, every season just keeps getting better and better, and it doesn't matter how many times you rewatch, each time it will surprice you more by how amazing its is, and what you missed.
Omg omg I soo wanted you guys to start this next yessssss this is in my top 10.shows
By far my favorite Sci-fi show ever, so good. Glad you are reacting to this show.
When Holden said, "She's gone," that was the reference to the Canterbury itself...ships are referred to as "she."
This is a very well-developed story.
Did you guys realise the woman from Earth is played by Shoreh Aghdashloo who also voiced Grayson in Arcane?
The Expanse is the best sci-fi series I've ever watched. It's been described as "Game of Thrones in space" (minus the terrible last season). I really love the human side of it, how it shows the best and worst of human behaviour, how humanity is its own worst enemy, and our efforts to overcome that when it's necessary to work together. Also, the show does diversity in casting _right,_ in a way that doesn't feel forced or preachy. It's also a show with excellent character development and its female characters are multidimensional badasses that rival (and I think they even outshine) its male characters. You are going to love it.
both shows were strongest in their first 3 seasons imo
SO thrilled you're starting the Expanse. Get ready for a wild ride.
Holy fuck, I didn’t know you were starting a new show. Oh my gosssshhh, the Expanse! You’re gonna fucking love it.
You have a fantastic journey ahead of you! Its a bit slow to start, but once it picks up, its a juggernaut!
OH HELL YEAH. It's such an underrated show but will totally blow your mind.
I was literally telling myself a week ago that it would be great if you two watched this.
They're 5 episodes in 😅
Even if you don't sign up, you should check their Patreon to keep up with what new shows they start. Unless you like the surprise, of course
Same. It's so perfect for them that I thought the only reason they haven't reacted to it yet is because they've already seen it off camera. I'm so glad we get to go on this journey with them!
Awesome! you spotted lots and got a lot of things most first reactors miss
- Identifying Julie Mao from the start
- Debris incoming from the Canterbury being destroyed
- Miller taking bribes for the air filters
- Havelock being an earther
Looking fwd to the rest
This show takes a while to get going but when it goes it gooooeeeesssss! It'll be worth it believe me.
HELL YES! One of my favourite shows in recent times! Can't wait to see you guys react and discuss!
Oh my goodness! I can't wait to see your reaction to this series. I love this show.
God I can’t wait, my favourite series.
All the places mentioned in the show are real moons or astroids in out solar system, so google the names of you want to know more about them... For example, Ceres is a dwarf planet in the asteroid belt that scientists theorize could be mined for water since it's made of ice.
Oh yessss! Buckle up, it's about to be a wild ride. Last time I watched you guys was for the Sense8 series. This Is the best, most realistic syfy tv show ever made, the only thing that comes close was Battlestar Galactica. Notifications enabled and looking out for ever video you put out ❤
This makes me happy. Hopefully we get around to Black Sails with you guys in the future too!
y'all are gonna love this show and it only gets better
Whaaaat omg i cant believe youre starting the expanse!!!!!! Omyyygooood with the way you guys care for characters, youre really gonna fall in love with this show by the end 😭😭💓💓
Finally! You will love this show, it's Vikings level epic story telling and acting, the first half of season one is a little slow, building the characters and story, but then it really takes off.
I'm hyped to watch your reactions to it!
Read about "Ceres (dwarf planet)" on Wikipedia - that might help give you a sense of the setting.
Best reaction channel on yt for the next 1000 years
Maybe you guys already knows this but the actress that portrays Chrisjen Avasarala " the queen of earth" is the same that portrays the female cop (friend of Vander) in Arcane.
Amos will be "my boy" 100%.
He's that guy, which is to say, our boy.
Man I really love the intro song. Basically one of the first live action shows I've actually gone to youtube to listen to their intro.
One of Loa's favourite shows is BSG?! Is... is this what love feels like? jkjk
Super excited to see these reactions, I think you both are going to have a fantastic time with it.
The Expanse! Good taste you two have! Enjoy the ride
Yooo, I LOVE THIS SHOW! So happy you're starting to watch this :)
This show is one of the best shows out there
you guys + this show are a PERFECT match. so excited!
