In this riveting video, we delve deep into the illustrious career of Fernando Alonso, exploring the intricacies that set him apart from the formidable talents of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in the high-octane world of Formula 1.
Join us as we dissect the defining moments that showcase Alonso's unmatched skill and resilience, his uncanny ability to extract maximum performance from subpar machinery, and his pivotal role in shaping the development of his racing cars and teams. We'll delve into the heart of the debate on what truly defines greatness in Formula 1-Is it the car, the driver, or the perfect harmony between the two?

Alonso is amazing. He started in the worst car a Minardi learned his craft to get better cars. When he said he was coming back to F1 i thought he would be like Bottas spinning around at the back. But he is fast strong and powerful and capable of challenging Max and Lewis the 2 best drivers. Alonso is young at heart and that is what you need in F1. He is not just another driver to old for the sport.
Capable of challenging Max and Lewis you say? More like in proper machinery capable of beating them both.
Fernando crushed Michael so bad he also crushed his legendary fighting spirit and MSC, a driver arguably superior to both Max and Lewis, was utterly beaten both in his head and on track.

@johnniejay
That is because he is not capable on helping his teams to develop the cars. He always complain about having slow cars but he has never get any of them better. Alonso had 2 good seasons out of 20. In a funny way, his McLaren days might have been one of the best things that could have happened to motorsport, because it led Fernando to try out and bring a large amount of attention to other things, such as his adventures in Indianapolis and in endurance racing. If it wasn't for him, I might have never discovered just how much awesome motorsports there is to be found outside of F1, and I will be forever thankful to my hero Fernando for showing me that.

this absurd conspiracy falls apart with even just a little bit of scrutiny. any objective observer of the season would tell you everything you said is complete bs. Ron Dennis is not an idiot businessman. he would not hire a world champ, pay him 10s of millions just to favour a rookie. even alonsos own engineer wrote a book (marc priestly) and said everyone in the garage was fighting to be on alonsos team at the beginning but it soon became apparent just how quick lewis was. and i challenge you to point out a race where strategy or pits went against alonso@@marios3761

Don't forget Alonso v Perez brazil 2023 how Nando managed third place in the last laps ahead of Checo
By far the best battle of that season
And how he held such a dominant car behind him for thirty freaking laps. I didn't ever expect to see one of those legendary photo-finishes live. I don't think I blinked more than a handful of times for that entire battle. It was marvelous.
Perez was getting a lesson that day by Senor
Nothing special, another bad performance of Checo in 2023. Two weeks later, LeClerc did the same against Checo in the last lap in Las Vegas.
Simple, Perez is not a top driver, not even close.
I must add, Fernando doesn't cause crashes with other drivers, ALL the other champions since probably Jackie Stewart have.

Good video production and oration but I think the arguments and direction of the video went in a different path once you started talking about Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen's dominance, as if it lost focus of the original purpose of the video. Alonso would have been a 5x World Champion if luck was on his side in 2007, 2010 & 2012
2007 wasn't so much about luck or rather the lack thereof... it was his own team "racing against Alonso".
Call it and act of "divine justice" that would cost 'em dearly. ;)
He choose not be be lucky, flawed man, great driver. Driving is not enough, see Senna, Prost, Hamilton, Shumacher, Verstappen
Luck?
In 2007, 2010 and 2012 he had no reliability issues while his competitors had a lot of reliability issues.
In 2005 he only won because Kimi had numerous reliability issues.
Where exactly has Alonso been unlucky in those 3 seasons?
You want to talk about Spa 2012 then Vettel got taken out in Malaysia by a lapped car, lost a win in Valencia due to broken engine, started from the pitlane in Abu Dhabi. Hamilton lost tons of wins in 2012 due to reliability issues.
It’s hilarious how delusional Alonso fans are pretending he was unlucky when his rivals have 3-4 times the amount of bad luck.
And if luck wasn't on his side in 2005 and 2006 he could have 0 titles.
Alonso will no doubt go down as one of the biggest what ifs in F1! He deserves way more championship than what he has, he he went to Red Bull in the V8 day he could have been a 6 time WDC!
In merc at dominance periode he would be 8 time wdc...
He was in Works Factory Renault & Only won 2005/6 because of McLaren’s worst reliability. He was also beaten by a rookie. So no he is the most Over Rated driver in F1 history. He was also involved in Spygate - blackmailing the boss and Crashgate. He’s a piece of shit as far as Im concerned.

2. I won't shed any tears that McLaren got exposed for cheating.
3. Alonso didn't get "beaten" by any old rookie it was LEWIS HAMILTON! Also let's not forget Ron Dennis went to Hamilton's radio and said "Our battle is with Fernando not Kimi." Even Lewis recognizes Alonso's greatness.

In terms of driving skills, Alonso is the best, he knows how maximize the performance of the car, if hed a little better car then he can definitely give a hard time to Max or maybe he can fight for the championship.
@amarjeetsinha8733
What has prevented Alonso from achieving true greatness as an F1 racing driver, is having been seduced by 'The Dark Side'.
His character failings are well documented and ultimate trust in his judgement will sadly, always elude him.
"You can't teach an old dog new tricks!"
Max also has his foibles. He's still in the process of losing his 'bull in a China shop' aggressiveness when wheel to wheel and not trusting to his acquired skill on the track.
The time to judge is when he no longer has exclusive access to 'The Best Car' at RedBull; as happened to then 2xF GP WDC TITLE HOLDER Alonso, in 2007, when losing out to rookie team mate Hamilton at McLaren.
OK, so here's a prospective scenario: RedBull Racing implodes as a team, after the exit of Christian Horner, despite the efforts of Daniel Ricciardo and Alex Albon.
Imagine Max then moving to Mercedes in 2026 with 4/5 F1 WDC TITLES and getting rookie Andrea Kimi Andrelli as team mate . . .

Definitely an all-time great and the best driver since the days of Senna/Prost/Schumacher. I am a massive fan of Alonso but I must admit though, Verstappen is the only driver that has excited me as much since Fernando first appeared in F1. If not for bad team choices or just being in the wrong place at the wrong time (exactly the opposite of Hamilton for eg), Fernando would definitely have had more titles.
I like Verstappen too, but I think he's been a bit clumsy on wheel to wheel racing. While he's incredibly fast on the main racing lines, there have been instances where his aggressive style has led to incidents. I do believe he has the potential to refine his skills, but for that he needs more experience competing with adversaries with cars on par with his.
@Varblomst I'm a max fan but those incidents appear to me to be caused by arrogance on his part rather than clumsiness, in contrast to when Lewis understeers into someone due to actual clumsiness.

One interesting thing that I like to think about is that for some reason, many great F1 drivers come from working class families, unlike most F1 drivers who come from priviledged families.
- Schumacher, Hamilton, Vettel, Raikkonen, and Alonso, all came from working class families. I'm sure there have been more.
I mean to enter F1 you either have the money or the skills... And since they come from normal families they actually have to work harder on their driving skills.
I have always believed that Alonso is the best driver when he is on the grid. Unfortunately he has driving sub par cars, still the talent is undeniable.
Imagine if Ferrari didn't cover Weber's pit stop in the last race or that season. Or if Grosjean didn't take him out in Spa.
I can't remember which years that was. He's been so close so many times...

F1 is weird, because most of your performance depends on something that's completely out of your control. Imagine some sprinters are given the best running gear in the world and others have to wear wooden boots and baggy jeans
He shouldn’t retired back then, he should have just focus on F1 but triple crown. He could have bring something more. The legend the only one Fernando Alonso ❤️
Once again I would wish him to take a title . I don’t think Aston is there yet. I think he deserves all the respect like this video here gives us
I don't think AMR will get there. Usually Fernando's best cars were the ones he had when he joined a team, that were developed by other drivers. When he starts to work with the engineers, the car starts to get stuck and his teammates cannot drive it. That's the big Fernando's fault he cannot transmit good feelings to his engineers.
People think Hamilton, Vettel, Verstappen or Schumacher were lucky on their teams. That's the difference between a good driver and a great driver.
Alonso had far tougher competition in his championship winning years driving an inferior car. Schumacher and Raikonen to name but two season long adversaries.
In 2021, Alonso was the only driver besides Hamilton who overtake Verstappen on the track without technical problems or accidents. but hamilton drive best car, alonso 5th in speed alpine.

Fernando Alonso is 42 years of age and is in the very twilight of his F1 racing career. He still has much to offer.
Max Verstappen is 26 and although only 9 years in F1 compared to Alonso's 20 odd years, has still got a lot of race craft to learn.

Max Verstappen is pretty resilient, but is unlikely to be still focused solely on F1, assuming he wins 5 world titles.
Will he still have the dominant car? Especially expecting that Adrian Newey snd assistants will be moving on very soon.
Perhaps he will want to try his hand at 24 Hour Le Mans, or Indianapolis500, or Paris to Daksr Rally; or many others that Fernando Alonso told him about.
So, while still competing, the number of F1 world titles won won't mean as much; unless it still stings that others conspire to nick one off you . . . as Sir Lewis Hamilton is still discovering, until of course Ferrari cough up $100 Million p.a. for your brand and your remaining 7 world titles . . .

I feel people like Alonso and Prost should be brought up in the GOAT debate more often.
Alonso is the best
His work ethics are fenomenal. Beeing a doble world champion and too drive practicaly the slowest cars on the grid for a decade! The best ever by far, he never in his whole career had the dominant or the fastest car and he still took 2 championhips and beeing second 3 or 4 times. Extraordinary from him. I really hope for some big drivers change, where maybe he could have a sit in Mercedes or Red Bull even for just one season. He deserved that he is the true spirit of racing and Formula 1!
While my favorite current driver is Sainz, my dad's favorite is Alonso.
In my case it is just the opposite. My favourite driver is Fernando, while my father supports Sainz. I don't like Sainz really much, but he has started the 2024 season pretty well...
I also like Max, Lewis, Charles and Lando... but no one as Fernando. I grew watching Fernando and Lewis racing when I was a kid, since then I have seen all F1 seasons, except for 2020.
You forgot to put "Michael Schumacher" in the title... MSC being the legend he is, he knew he had no hope against Fernando and after a couple seasons with him on the grid Michael simply lost his well known fighting spirit.
Fernando crushed the legend because he's the best F1 driver ever... both team principals and other drivers are aware of how unmatched Alonso is, F1 fans seem to refuse to acknowledge that for some reason... I guess they don't want to say out loud their fav drivers aren't worth a tenth of Fernando's talent? It's ok, you can cheer for someone who isn't the best and there's no shame in it.
2:25 this is BS. Briatore made the deal with Alonso before his F1 debut, when he was still competing in F3000. He put him in a Minardi one season for learning, before putting him in Renault.
I wish with all my heart that Fernando wins his third title

Nice video! I believe that the next F1 regulation changes will make F1 all about engines again, I prefer the actual era or the era previous to the hybrid engines. It will be very hard for teams to race with the engines they use were weak, aero is something easier to fix, just see McLaren last year.
Aero packages work in tandem with the engine, if you have a bulky inefficient engine layout/design chances are that you're not leaving enough space for your aero engineers to do the work needed (alpine for example) and you fall behind. I can see how you think aero is easier to fix but if you have large fundamental problems like engine cooling etc, your options are slimmer. So no, it is not perse easier to make the aero work on a car then the engine. Both of them have to tick like clockwork to make a championship winning car, the driver is the final piece in that. Look at Checo and Max difference.
@@danny7694 I totally agree with you! What I mean is that during some time the team if a little bit more power and reliability must reign. Remember 2014 all the problems that the Renault engine had, this could happen again with some engine supplier and like in 2014, a good aero package could be unsuccessful because it is not backed by a decent engine.
People who say max or lewis is better than alonso are really just hype fans. Just follows the train. Alonso is the best driver by far. He is made of drivers of yesteryear. From the 70s-80s mold. Wherever alonso goes. He ALWAYS makes a mid tier car able to make it to the top
Great video, thanks for sharing these information and your research :)
Its true that you have to group Alonso with Schumacher for a GOAT debate and not include Hamilton or Verstappen (yet) simply because they have not won Championships in a clearly slower car.
I think Verstappen has what it takes, even when he had an inferior car he was still competitive with Mercedes. That said, I look forward to Red Bull being less dominant to see how good Max really is.
THAT'S SOO TRUEE 😭
He’s the reason I never feel bad for leclerc when people say he deserves a “better car” from Ferrari to win a WDC. This man drove a way worse car to near WDCs so with Leclerc sounds like a skill issue bud
LeClerc deserves a better team, not a better car. Ferrari are about as reliable as their road cars.

lets not forget in 07' when alonso joined mclaren-mercedes with hamilton in his 1st year, they played favouritism with hamilton, and they tied in points. Also that same year mercedes was disqualified that season for the espionage controversy.
Totally agree!! I would add…Nico Rosberg defeated Lewis with the same car and won one championship….
What a legend and inspiration!!
Your argument contradicts itself since Hamilton beat Alonso at McLaren. Also Lewis suffered reliability issues the year he lost to Rosberg and the last race was worth double points that year 😂
Except Hamilton beat rosberg 3-1 in the 4 seasons they were teamates. Plus Hamilton nearly beat Alonso on his rookie season at McLaren when he was treated badly as a 2nd driver..

fernando's only weakness is his lack of patience, if only he waited in one team instead of changing every now and then.
His only weakness is not being British.
If you noticed many F1 UA-camrs create more videos about Fernando Alonso's Greatness even F1 channel themselves create more videos about his greatness even though Hamilton has achieve more titles than Alonso

🥇Easily one of the top 3 greatest drivers of all time.
He achieved results in below average cars. The guy is arguably the greatest driver of the modern era.
If you gave Hamilton the same cars Alonso had, Hamilton would have achieved a quarter of his success. It’s a shame the race titles don’t do justice to demonstrate who the greatest drivers really are
2007 say hello
2007 mclaren sabotage say hello back, you got 0 wheel knoledge and your fav driver is a crying lil bitch who was put in one of the most dominant cars in hsitory for a decade and still maneged to lose to rosberg and max 🤣
BEST DRIVER OF XXI CENTURY. He always had to battle his wins because he never had the BEST car.
Other drivers had/have more easy to win because they had/have the BEST car: Hamilton, Vettel & Vestappen.
He is not...Alonso is overrated just because he is a veteran of this sport and his arrogance inspires greatness. I;m not saying he is not good, but I see Max better.
How long have you being watching f1?
@@lockydude007 since 1933
@@lockydude007 if Alonso was good 20 years ago, it doesn't mean he is the same now...and the comparison was with Verstappen and Hamilton...both have more championships than Alonso. Objectively both are better, subjectively there is no debate every fan loves his idol.
I think it’s irrefutable that Alonso is one of the best racing drivers of all time, just from how consistently competitive he is throughout his career. If he wasn’t it was never his fault, and he rarely ever makes errors(other than career decisions). His performances are worthy of multiple WC, his only Achilles heel is his poor team choices
GOAT
If only Fernado would have luck with the cars... he could be more than 7 championship ahead.

It was actually much faster that other cars in corners because of it.
@@TsaganOP is referring to Mansell's move on Berger at the 1990 Mexican GP, he was driving the Ferrari 641 at the time.
I like how Alonso diehard fans live in their own reality.
The creator made an art of making a 8 minute video and saying nothing
For me yeah the stuff he does like mind games and tactics so on are questionable but for me he is one of the few drivers that are filled with natural talent
The conclusion you draw is opposite to the title of your video. The important missing talent in Alonso is the lack of creating synergy with the team. I regard Fernando as one of the greatest, but you mentioned exactly the reason why he failed at so many places.

What??
Hamilton kicked Alonso's butt in 2007. Then Alonso left McLaren because he couldn't take it anymore.
What planet are you on??
Never did. 109points each. He couldn't even beat alonso with complete team behind him, british media behind him, sabotaging their own driver. Witnessed every race in 2007 live. It was a shit show. If that happens now in the social media world. Mclaren team would go bankrupt & leave f1. Hamilton barely beat bottas and is way slower than russell. He is lucky that mercedes build god level engine in 2014. Otherwise he would be stuck with only 1 title. Haha he got beaten by Rosberg fair and square. Rosberg beat him 8 races in a row b/w 2015 end & 2016 beginning. Alonso & Max never been beaten more than 2 races in a row EVER.
What planet are you on ?
Its still funny how before lewis had 7 titles, shumacher was the best because he had the most titles, poles and wins. Then along comes lewis and he passes all of those and now he is not the goat it is the car. So please explain how it changed now. So if fernando is better than lewis he would be the goat. It would go fernando, lewis, michael and then max.
Lewis has the same amount of titles as MSC, which is seven.
@alanpassos468 yeah a typo but give me an explanation for the rest of it?

@JumprsOfficial duhhh people have opinions. I just need someone to explain it to me because it always seems to change when it comes to lewis and we all know why.
I've been an Alonso fan since he joined Renault and I was just a little kid. Alonso has only ONE weakness: Qualifying. He is the greatest of them all in almost every single other metric. He possesses a lot of the characteristics of Senna but only falls short to Senna due to raw speed
Nonsense Alonso isn’t that good
Fernando Alonso is the Larry Bird of Formula one!
Although I think Fernando is one of the greatest, let's not forget he was beaten by Lewis in his rookie year at McLaren (but barely) and by Esteban Ocon last year (with some bad luck). Is he better than Senna? I don't know...
Alonso and verstappen are obv more talented then LH
