My coworker was helping his widowed Mom out one weekend and told me that Monday it was a miracle his parent's house hadn't burned down. He discovered his Dad had vented the dryer vent into the wall with no external exhaust. Yes, a good 15 years of fuzz build-up. He said at least it was insulation there.
Story: After moving into my new house in 2004 (dryer vents to roof - single story house) At that time I had no clue ... I thought the dryer was wrecked...so I called appliance repair and they said vent was clogged...so the repair guy looked on the roof and was shocked to find out that the builders had put a freaking bathroom vent cap!!... I literally called the builder... they sent someone out and put in a proper dryer vent roof cap... only they never removed the SCREEN!! I don't get why a dryer vent would even come with a screen at all... I'm so glad I don't have to deal with this anymore... but it's satisfying to watch on youtube
I like your videos the most out of all the vent cleaning videos, you actually show from start to finish and explain the things that need explaining. Keep up the great work! 🩷 From Alberta Canada!
Thank you for wearing a mask. It's not just the lint, but the chemicals from detergent and fabric softener that were used when doing the laundry that's coming out of those vents.

So if you don’t screen the dryer vent how do you keep birds out? I’ve seen birds on other houses in my neighborhood lift up those flaps and hustle right in!
It's best to use the damper I installed on this one... It's much more difficult for birds to get in due to the interior design. Also, in a vent the goes through the crawl space, the opening is way too low for a bird to be interested. Thanks for watching and your comment!
When I did dryer vent cleaning here in TN, I have a case full of louvers because they were always brittle from the sun and always missing or snapped when I barely touched them.
True... I've only been doing this UA-cam/video aspect for 2.5 months.... I can rebuild your house however video creation isn't my strong suit... I'd bet I pick it up rather quickly though! Thx for your feedback!
I must add a tip, folks love dryer sheets but they can leave a bit of residue on the filter and along the hose to add misery and fluff. So if you can avoid them it's best.
BAM!!!! You are correct! Dryer sheets have a surfactant that when heated, it turns into basically glue that gets pushed through your vent and eventually causes more lint to stick vs using liquid fabric softener! So glad you brought this up!!!
Great comments from everyone. I don’t use commercial fabric softener or dryer sheets for the reasons everyone has discussed. The best fabric softener is white vinegar-regular strength-NOT white cleaning vinegar, which is too strong. About 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup vinegar and soft clothes, fluffy towels and no vinegar smell.
Did you watch the video? If so, maybe you’d see why! And I installed an exterior damper to masonry the way it should be! Let me guess, you just caulk dampers to the exterior? Please explain and I’ll back my work up EVERY DAY!
No, you aren’t supposed to screen a dryer vent… You may want to watch some of my other videos bc I go in depth about dryer vent screens. Also, why caulk the damper when it’s right beside a foundation vent which is literally a 16”x8” huge hole in the same foundation…
There is so much wrong in the videos I have watched, So I am going to tell you the truth and it is not meant to insult you but to try to school you in the right direction, drilling a 4 inch deep hole for a 1 inch anchor is Ludacris, get yourself some tap cons use the correct size bit, squirt a little silicone in the hole and tighten the screw and if you are going to drill 4 holes then fill them, (laziness, sloppy, poor workmanship). using a 5 in one as you were and chipping the brick, no good. You did not seal anything and I mean anything, (lazy, poor workmanship) water intrusion is the absolute worst thing for a home, always keep the critter cage on, just needs to be cleaned more ( shows you need to learn more about your job and services) the editing where do I start, do not leave the viewers alone for one second, edit the video so people are not looking at a hole for minutes on end till you show back up, anyway I wish you well, did not mean it in a rude manner, just SMH.
Seriously no offense but this is just poor work . No sealant means water will get in. No anchors on the screws means they'll fall out soon as moisture gets in and finally no screen means any Little critter can climb right in and live in your dryer. Not to mention the editing who leaves that much idol footage in their videos
@@advsLLC ok my apologies I am not an expert in any of these fields and have no right to criticize your work and as I sit here and put a little extra thought into this video I come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter how I feel about your work or what you do or don't do cause the moral of the story is no one is ever going to practice proper vent maintenance 😁
No, you've insulted my work multiple times while offering absolutely nothing to the conversation.... No anchors? So you think i just screwed into masonry? WOW! thanks for watching! They all come with a screen because the same roof damper/cap is used for bath fans as well as dryer vents.

The louverd dryer vent is one of my favorite vents. just make sure it’s cleaned and make sure it don’t have a screen on it but great video!👍

I never use them, things are soft enough with a bit of fabric softener and the tumbling action. Too much waste and unnecessary expense.
@@nicolad8822 Fabric softener sheets are terrible for your dryer AND dryer vent! They actually make the lint stick to the inner wall of the vent!

Al, what type of auger do you use on your drill. I've been trying to find one that's more reliable then the one I have! Thanks in advance!
NICE!!!
Thank you!!!
If you really thought that it didnt matter, why did you drill 4 holes and install 4 anchors? Also do you plan on sealing anything?
