Love this review and the background knowledge, you provide, Erik. Good stuff! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Went to a Spirits Fest and the Glenmo rep said they're not making Nectar D'or anymore. Instead it will just be called "Nectar" with a different finish. Will be a collectors item I suppose.
Your review of wine finished whisky, as certified sommelier AND sertified schotch professional, is very valuable. I see a lot well known whisky reviewers despise whiskies matured and/or finished in wine casks as „poor“. Not me. As a man, who loves whisky/whiskey AND wine I like whiskies finished in wine casks quite a lot. Personal favourites (one form Scotland, another from Ireland)-Arran Amarone cask finish and Teeling 13YO single grain (9 years in ex-bourbon casks and extra maturation in ex-Bordeaux red wine cask for 4 years-this one is a stunner!).
Ya, my wine background gives me a different perspective. I did a video "10 Wines Every Whisky Lover Should Know". If you have not seen it, check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/p34llh4JoRQ/v-deo.html
I like Glenmorangie a lot. Ive only had a sample sized pour of this but it was enjoyable. But i dont have good background tasting the wines these whisky's are finished in for good reference. Quinta Ruban still would be my favorite. I want to buy another but i hate the new labels so much i held off lol.
I absolutely hate their new labels.
Their old ones were amoung my favorite and I would always recommend their 10 year old as a good date whiskey. Looked classy, inexpensive, low proof, very mellow for a scotch, very palatable to women who are not used to scotch
Interesting to see this bottling keep with the old style label. I'd pick it over the others just for that
I actually prefer this one over most other expressions, although there are a few exceptions.
"...very palatable to women who are not used to scotch..." What about men? Or is this just a women thing?
@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies Lol
Well everyone is an individual. But chances are this will work better with a first date than Laphroaig.
I also gave this a 90/100 score. Where are you that this costs $90? It’s still about $70 where I am in Texas.
I am in California. I live in Half Moon Bay but bought it at TW&M in San Mateo for $87 plus tax.
You so generous Erik. Im sure Ralfy will give this one solid...80/100 😋. 👍😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
I’m a sommelier who has been to chateaux in Sauternes who know his wines. I would not expect anyone who does not really know wines to appreciate this whisky as much as I do.
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies 101% agreed. You need like wines to understand and apreciate wine finished whiskies. Didnt try this one but i have had Tulibardine and Arran finished in sauternes which really liked. Also peated Kilchoman and Port Charlote finished in sauternes casks are delicious. Cheers Erik. Slàinte 👍😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
Have you tried it against Arran sauternes? Thanks for review 😊
Not yet! I have a bunch of bottles of Arran but not that one.
i just have to say very very very very very

Totally agree with everything, except I can still get it for $70 😉 PS. Lasanta 12 is now 43%, not 46% ✌️
Just released a 16yr age stated nectar with a four cask finish including saturnes, tokaji, moscatel, and one other cask. Just ordered one for 100$. Cant wait 🥃
Saturnes, Tokaji, Moscatel are all very complimentary wines so it should work very well.
I have the new 16y Nectar bottling incoming as a Christmas present from my wife. Mind you I was a Santa's little helper and went and picked the bottle myself and brought it home to be wrapped as a present. I have high hopes for this as an after dinner dram.
Now that is a review! Thanks for all that info. I really like this expression. Interested to see if you have any thoughts on the original 12 year old expression vs. The newer NAS version.
Nice review. This one is OK, but not worth the price. Quinta Ruban is much more affordable and worth every penny. Arran Sauternes is better, IMO, though it's my least favorite Arran. I guess Sauternes finish is just not for my palate.
Easily the worst Scotch I have ever tasted
Have you ever had a Sauternes wine?
A while before I tasted the d´Or, yes. While I can´t dislike sauternes wine per se, it just is not a suitable finishing cask.@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies
I found this one to be harsh. Well overrated for its price. Of the four, I only like the Quinta Ruban.
Harsh? You didn’t drink the same whisky.
@@ErikWaitWhiskyStudies I had two 100mL bottles of it as part of their 4-pack tasters. I tasted them months a part. I was so hopefull because I absolutely love Sauterhes.
