Great review as always. What about new vs old bottling of Glenmorangie 14 QR?

Talisker got port rughe and arran has port. I don't know why but it has a good price in my country too. Thanks for the review 😊

The original 12 yr port cask was fabulous, and I have one I'm saving for special occasion(it was that good), I've tried the new 14yr old, while good, not even close to the original with black label.

I enjoy Port wines and I really like Port finished scotchs. I have a new Quinta Rubin and the Arron Port bottle in my collection. I've been thinking about GlenAlliche Port, I may give that a try.

I love port cask finishes. My dad drinks cheap Taylor tawny port in the winter, so it does remind me of that. I have not explored more refined Port expressions on my own just yet. But Glenmorangie is great along with Tomatin's expression which is also 14yr but it's a little more expensive, I think I paid 75 or so. I also love Woodinville's Port finished bourbon, Isaac Bowman port finish is solid too. Would recommend them if you switch back to some American spirits exploration after you complete your test.

Hi Erik! I would consider the Tomatin 14 year old, the Arran Port Cask and Talisker Port Ruighe to also be core range port cask matured whiskies. Just a few that came to mind. Thanks for your great videos.

Hey Eric, if I'm not mistaken Glendronach has a Port that I think is part of the core range. It's always on the shelves down here. Great review, I love this scotch. Cheers!

Yes, they have a Port cask but it isn't listed as a core range on the web site.

    Another great video Erik.
I always buy a couple of the Glenmorangie sample packs and make a bottle with them.
1/3 to 1/2 of the 10 yr then the full miniature of the rest; Lasanta, Ruban and Nectar. They make a better blend than by themselves , at least for me.

I really enjoy a tawny port, but a little goes a long way. Arran also has a port finished core release, which I quite enjoy. Glenallachie used to do a yearly port finished release as well. Excellent review, Erik. Cheers from 🇨🇦

How does this one stack up to, say, a macallan 12 or the lasanta? Price not being a factor, which of the three bottles would you have? How do they differ? For me, the macallan is a dry, kinda thin whiskey with great balance between a dark fruit sherry thing, and a little spiced ginger that keeps it from getting overwhelmingly sweet and heavy by the end of the glass. Sounds like this quinta ruban would be exhausting after a generous pour, but "one of the best values in scotch whiskey" is hard to argue with. . . (apologies for the potentially time wasting opinion-question. ^^ Thanks for sharing your experience and generally dispensing with snobbery. )

Macallan 12 and Lasanta are Sherry Casks which are more alike. This is a Port cask which is quite different.

The Dalmore Port Wood Reserve is part of their core range, and has been for many years.
I also thought the Glendronach Port Wood was part of their core range, but I see that’s not technically the case.

I was given a bottle of this for Christmas its an older bottling without the silly big letters on the front. I'm thinking of selling it when it near doubles in price then buying something more to my taste preference.

I really appreciate your background info on the differences between Port and Sherry here, it doesn't really get discussed properly in most Whiskey Tube content!

Erik, honest opinion, do you prefer the Glenmorangie 14 or the Tomatin 14? I am partial to the Tomatin for more sweetness and richness. Curious on your preference. Love the content!
