Can we all take a moment and give Magic Mike a shoutout? Always a smile on his face even when bent over that goofy Lambo with a flashlight in his mouth. Cool dude.
he's literally the best
I saw a post of his on reddit a few months ago, seems like a pretty cool dude
… oops I need to rephrase that”
😂
He’s gonna be bent over the Countach again for SOME reason.
...Hoovie said something bad about it in a video - again - after it performed FLAWLESSLY in California.
Check the last Mercedes video.
Cars get jealous.😡
Thank you 😊
Hoovie and the Boys really said, “if you’re not hiring us for Top Gear US, we’re making our own.”
top gear US sucks this is top gear uk quality
@@wildberry752 It used to be, the new one is garbage.
@@Mark-jd1jx yeah with out Jeremy it sucks
Internet: "Can we have Top Gear?"
The Boys: "We made Top Gear at home."
Top Gear at home: 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
@Dr. Mantis Toboggan it was... now, its the grand tour all the way for me
I know the aircooled rabbit hole far too well. If it was a coupe I would probably go all in, but on a rough chopped up targa/now convertible I would just fix the head studs and enjoy it for what it is.
Agreed
@@magicmikethemechanic 100% agree
More worthy and interesting cars. Bardic fix and move on.
But you could go all out... find a better body and swap it all.
I'd make it a safari 911.
So if you want to keep that LS alive you need to dry sump the oil system. Even the most basic dry sump system will keep it from getting oil starved.
I scrolled and scrolled looking for this comment. 100% agree.
@@dougsisk619 I saw someone talking about Hoovie blowing up his ls in a random 996 ls swap thread, and my first thought was, "Did he take it to the track with the stock oiling set up and blow the engine that way? That's the most common way people blow up ls motors, he should know better than that."
Sure enough lol
Do the minimum on the cabrio. If you were going to restore it back into a Targa, I would say go big on the engine.
Agree weld a targa top back on and send it to macco and make it a daily
It's not even a real cabrio, it's a Porsche Turdlinger. The minimum to get it to stop and go. Hell give it a Beetle engine swap.
@@northjoe no macco please on this rare specimen of a car
agree
Parts car
I would stick with the minimum for the Porsche, body is too tatty for it to warrant a mega engine build! Have an old Porsche you're happy to drive anywhere and park anywhere
This! Save the money and put it into something cooler.
Same, save the cash and go cheap
Minimum is boring. Boring doesn't get views
@Peter Bailey:
Now that would be the sensible thing to do. But I believe Hoovie asked what we thought HE should do.
And honestly, I bet he’ll end up spending 5-figures to have a built engine in this old targa “bastard”, then he will drive it for a few weeks while being really happy with it, then become bored with it and sell it off to someone at a huge discount and lose big $$.
Mind you, there’s a reason this has come to be known as the dumbest automotive channel in all of UA-cam..
Agreed 100%
Let's put a FuelTech on!
Definitely!
Straight from the man himself👌
Yes!!
Com certeza !
Grab popcorn and watch the Brazilians commenting on this.
YEEEEEEES!
Tyler: “what big ball joints”
Wizard: “yeh you could knock someone out with those”
Tyler: 👁👄👁ok
My beater Escalade EXT has been doing the random "full heat" thing too, with the only fix being to turn it off/open the door/restart the car to get it to work properly again. My ears really perked up when Wizard mentioned the fix, thanks for the practical advice fellas
My 04 Tahoe did that too. The only fix was exactly what you mentioned. Was super annoying to have to pull over randomly to do that song and dance. I knew it was the blend door but I never felt like taking it apart to actually fix it since it was so infrequent.
@@zachelliott9231 Pretty much every vehicle post 97-ish is plagued with blend door problems. Some worse than others, but unexplained heat is usually this since we don't put valves on the heater circuit anymore.
A cool fix in a pinch is to pull the power on the actuator when it blows cold. You can find video on doing that
My only does it on the passenger side, but does go away doing the same thing
Luckily the drivers side one is pretty easy to do.. some of the others.. not so easy...
Car trek is what American top gear should have been. Finally some Americans who seem to enjoy cars
I don't agree I think they could start to make an original idea...not the copy of TOPGEAR...it was nice in the beginning...but it's time to evolve....
Totally agree.
It's certainly an improvement on TG USA, but still an obvious attempt to copy TG UK, except I don't think Americans can be as rude to each other as Hammond, May and Clarkson are without someone pulling a gun!
To be fair keeping the name Top Gear really just doomed it from the start, everyone knows Top Gear as Jeremy, James, and Richard.
@@juststeve5542 lmao haha thats super true
What a beautiful relationship between you and the wizard. Glad to see he's been able to branch off of your success! He deserves it! As do you Hoovie! Thanks for the years of entertainment!
Tyler, we need a garage update again on ALL your cars. It’s almost impossible to keep up when you’re buying one every week lol
I say don’t go crazy with the Porsche. I don’t think a built engine would suit it all that much.
Hellcat swap miata has entered the chat
Yeah, the bare minimum should be done to it, it's already ruined
That exact porche isnt worth it.
Unreal Banana I wouldn’t say it’s ruined, but you kinda have to own it at that point.
@@RPGexclusive It's not ruined...just no longer a 911. It's a neat science project.
Glad to see Apollo again after all these years! I started watching around the final Apollo videos. We've come a long way have we not?
This video is inspiring. I'm in the assembly process of my LS swap of my 1982 DeLorean that also includes a frame-off restoration. What a great sounding 911/LS you have and it moves very fast!
Missed opportunity, when Wizard says “I don’t have a bill for you,” you say, “and on that bombshell…”
9:00 Why not a Fueltech engine management system? I'm sure Anderson Dick from FuelTech USA would love to help on this project too!
That would be Awesome!
1000% this. Carbs aren't Tyler friendly, and modern EFI is so, so much better. A good tuner will have the car starting like a modern honda and running better than factory.
I have nothing else to say except "Anderson Dick" is a great name. Everyone should have a last name as their first name and a phallis for their last name.
Why do you think putting a fueltech on this would just suddenly make it a fuel injection car? You'd spend 5-10k just to buy all the pieces to convert it before you could even put ANY stand-alone on it.
I concur, plenty of options for stand alone EFI available.
Ok. That Car Trek ad...was actually amazing.
It's getting really big. Internet broadcasting is getting same budgets as TV. Top Gear quality stuff. Very impressive.
I can feel Magic Mike’s frustration emanating from that lambo, as a technician I know that feeling of a car that just will not go away with annoying issues, makes you wanna smack your head into a wall every time you see it pull in the lot lol
I love how Hoovie has a entire section of the wizards warehouse. That's what I call car goals because if I was in his position I'd probably be doing the same thing.... minus being smart enough to make money on it lol
"Carb" and "upgrade" are not synonyms. Plenty of EFI options for the targa-cab.
The red 911 deserves the middle price head rebuild etc... isn't it funny how Apollo came back around, just like another certain Apollo flight!
Wizard: “riptide bluuuuuee”, I almost sharted with laughter
The 996 engine isn’t iron it’s aluminium
@@TheMazandbaz never said it was 😂
This may be corny, but your videos bring me pure joy. I find myself smiling thru the hole thing. Thank you
This might be kind of impossible, but I hope Hoovie converts the blown Porsche back to a Targa top. Awful what happened to it
probably the best way to give it some value back! AND would be a fun project to follow
@@lepepus I knowwww, it's just there's only so few auto body welders and masters that could pull off a roof swap, it's really an art. Not only that, but it could take several months to get it right to factory fitment
I'd like to see him convert it to a coupe =)
Agreed. Removing the roof has made the car worthless in my eyes. It would be fantastic to see it back to its former glory.
Better call Maaco! 😝🤞
Hoovie is like, "I better get out of here before he finds me a bill to pay!".
Hoovies the man! Watching his videos is like a warm blanket and hot cocoa in the middle of a snowstorm. Thanks Hoovie!
Out of all the vehicles that are or have been on this channel, my favorite ones would be Suburban, Escalade, Sierra, ML55, Hummer H1 & H2, E60 BMW M5, Excursion, G20 Conversion Van, Express Conversion Van, Alpina B7, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, and even the Lexus LX470
I can't believe it's been 5 years... Time goes by so fast, like an LS swapped 911!
IKR! I feel old… 😅 it was fun to be there when it all happened though! Except for the stolen Mercedes. That wasn’t fun. And of course when grandma passed away.
Boy, I think I know more about Hoovie and his cars than I know about my family! 😂
I’ve been a subscriber for over 5 years??
Wow
Welcome back Apollo 911!
That was the car that caught my attention for his channel. Good to see it again.
Three things
1: love your channel
2: go minimal on the targa because it’s been hacked to shit
3: the moon is almost 240k miles away so the 911 only made it TOO the moon, not back yet.
Thanks for the fly-by shots! Hearing the engine under a load as it passes is great. Daddy Doug NEEDS TO BRING THIS BACK INTO HIS VIDS.
I wish Magic Mike had his own youtube channel, or at least episodes on Hoovie's or Wizard's channels.
That dude is a magician!
4 years ago already? Damn it seems like a year or 2 ago you swapped the Porsche
If you're not already old, you now understand how quickly it happens...
As a British guy, I keep seeing the Merkur Scorpio in the background. They were sold in Europe as Ford Granada Scorpio's. I'd say they're pretty rare in the USA.
I'm 100% sure it will be featured in a Weeezard video.
I was thinking exactly the same.
My Dad was always swapping Ford Granada engines into Ford Cortinas when I was a kid. His work shop was always full of them. Now I haven't seen one for well over 10years
I can't keep from staring at the Scorpio! Miss mine a lot!
I was shocked to see it too in Wizard’s shop. I actually saw one a few weeks ago irl and a week before a Merkür Xr4ti in the same place! What are the odds of finding 2 random Merkürs from the 80’s in the same parking lot within a week!
Apolo 911 is the reason I started watching your channel. Glad to see it back.
Tyler you're killing it man! So happy for you!
Absolutely love how wholesome and knowledgeable the wizard and his staff seem to be in these videos. The stuff on his channel reflects the same things. I think I'll comment something similar on one of his vids ☺️
Thanks for the awesome content Hoovie, keep it up!
@kevin barker Lol, mine or the spam replies? 😂😂 Totally fair if you disagree with mine.
When the Wizzard no longer requires gold know this as the final sign of the apocalypse.
He'll get him next time. Wizard doesn't work for free.
This and the manual swapped Mercedes diesel are my two favorite hoopties and I am SO STOKED to see this thing going again!
I'm digging the Mercedes wagon too.
Best channel in all of UA-cam right here. Don’t care what anyone says!!
I had a vehicle with a persistent belt squeak...it drove me mad. We tried so much; tensioners, different belts, idler pully, sprays. Finally we found out the belt with "cloth type" backing was the fix because it was squeaking on the backside against the smooth pulleys. Food for thought. I don't know what's been tried.
uhm, but just because you found a material to get rid of the squeaking doesn't mean you fixed it? there must've been a reason, a misalignment, to cause the squeak in the first place?
Maybe the smooth pulleys didn't run properly because of bad bearings or lack of grease?
belt dressing
@@taunuslunatic404 Nah we had a stethoscope. The belt we replaced it with was the OEM from the dealership. The problem was the standard AC Delco belts we rubber only while the OEM had integrated cloth into the backside of the belt it's self.
I like when Tavarish poured his heart and soul into those few unbelievable builds.
I think a lot of people do. That's why Cleetus is doing so well!
I wouldn't want to speak for anyone but, if my vote counts, I would enjoy you going crazy on that 79 Porsche.
yea exactly. with that said check out gingium for some nutty builds if you haven't.
I have to thank this channel, i rarely comment on stuff in youtube but seriously you are great, you keep me in touch with my automotive side and are one of the reasons I bought my Supra MK2 project car. I hope all goes well with Apollo 911 and hopefully we see it in cartrek some day, keep on hooptin Hoovie~!
We're getting closer to the Grand Tour than the actual Grand Tour has been in years. I'm so excited.
Car trek is gonna be awesome I can’t wait. Also, get rid of the “targa” top Porsche
Car trek is a complete rip off of top gear. If they had the ideas patented, they’d be getting a cease and desist letter from the BBC. Don’t have the chops to come up with original ideas? No problem! Just rip off someone else’s.
@@PatTheCarNut Hahaha what IS original and genuinely unique these days? Nothing is, ill answer that for you. Car Trek is great stfu
@@PatTheCarNut theyre more entertaining than Top Gear IMO
Honestly if he does keep it he should make it into a battlewagon
@@PatTheCarNut fyi, Ed Bolian literally said that he wanted to do something like a top gear. So yeah, you are not opening nobody's eyes with your "car track is a rip off"
Man does this car trek look fun as hell i hope they keep making these for all of our sake
I love the ls 911 because it symbolizes this entire channel. It’s beautiful and hilarious and chaotic
4 years ago?! Damn, I had no clue I've been watching this channel for this long!
I vote rings and head bolts as well, since the interior still needs a lot of work. And who knows what else...
Get it running. Sell it. So many other more worthy projects. That car has been ruined.
You're living the dream! Savour every moment, Tyler. Cheers!
So awesome to see this thing back! I remember watching the original Apollo 911 episodes "back in the day!"
Anyone know where wizard got all his knowledge about cars? It really inspires me on how smart he is about any car that he touches. This is the guy that you talk to and say yeah he knows everything about cars
Some of vehicle knowledge acquired as a army mechanic, I think.
I'd guess experience and a general knowledge of how cars function is the biggest thing. I've got a friend like the wizard, no shop though, but he can pretty much figure out anything about any car, and fix about anything on the side of a highway. That or he and the wizard are just the same breed of human who can speak to machines lol.
The full boat 911 engine only makes sense if you are going to take the car back to a targa rather than the terrible cabrio conversion. Since you don't want to do that then go with the cheapest engine option. Is that a Merkur Scorpio in the background?
Hoovies uploading so much lately I love the hoopties and I love car trek
This car got me watching your channel. Since it's been gone I have not been as interested but this is great seeing it back and the ls swap rocks!
Really looking forward to the next series of Car Trek Hoovie, keep it up mate!
1:45 I thought that was ChrisFix for a second lol. You guys need to get him for a cameo or something, that’d be so cool!
Ive been watching for over two years haven’t seen him walk out of the wizards once without a bill
When I watch your videos.. my excitement for cars is re-invigorated!! awesome...
Hoovie has some nice stuff…
This is by far my new favourite
Oh man, that's a gorgeous soundtrack for a ride! Sounds like the beast it is now!
I would do the minimum. You've already "been there done that" with a mint air cooled 911, and dumpling all that money into a worse example won't make a better experience.
I still would love to see it EV swapped.
Yup
hell yea, great idea!!!
I missed this car man, I remember all those years ago, I was one of those guys that unsubbed when you sold her lmao I resubbed soon after, but the loss of Apollo 911 was real. I'm so glad you were right and I was wrong, like they all say "if you love something, set it free, if it comes back, it's yours"
The Apollo is back yay! I love this car, it sounds amazing. Love your T shirt, long live the Apollo 911!
3k fix all day. The fuel injection system isn’t great but it is fairly reliable all things considered. You could actually turn a profit on this one 🤣
Always interesting to snoop the background vehicles in the Wizard's shop. I recognize 2 that I used to own back in the day. The e21 3 series and what appears to be a blue Merkur Scorpio. Loved those cars. had an Xr4Ti as well. I also own a Raptide Blue Suburban, couldn't justify the Escalade then. Never knew what to call that color but I got many compliments on it.
I am loving the blue Merkur Scorpio in the background! I have owned 3 Scorpio's and 1 XR in my lifetime. They are amazing cars!
Go crazy on the 911. It’s the Hoovie thing to do!
This must be the best sounding 911 of all time! What a great build! Oh that deep V8 rumble!
It really does sound amazing, I bet it's a blast to drive.
That Porsche sounds like a beast. That's the best sounding Porsche I've ever heard
When Hoovie is happy I'm happy
You gotta go all in with the Porsche rebuild. Bring that car back to its glory. I'd love to watch it happen!
Congratulations on Apollo-911 getting the new heart transplant!! Fun car!!
Go basic on the Frankenstein 911 Targa/Cabrio
you should go full crazy on that targa turned convertible. its never gonna be a show car so you may as well make it YOUR car.
Thank you Hoovie! Glad the LSPorsche is back.
There needs to be a LOVE button for this video!!!!
Minimun on the other Porsche.
We care more about getting Apollo back to glory like we remember from when it was first LS swapped.
I would do a top-end refresh on the targa and sell it. meaning refresh the heads, do new timing bits, get it mechanically sound and not smoking and then just let it go
Yes
Great Porsche look and sweet LS sound - marriage made in heaven.
Hearing LS V8 and seeing 911 is just something else.
I have to agree with piers. That body just doesn’t warrant a high end engine build.
"I never thought I'd see it again." Wizard says regretfully.
I don't know what it is about the kicks and arm movements during your intro, but it's very endearing
That LS sounds sooooo good! Congrats.
hey hoovie if the ls3 dies again from bearings being starved of oil, try getting the drysump version of the engine out of the manual grandsports unless thats what the other guy did, havent finished video yet
~70% of all
Porsches ever produced still travel the roads today.
Because 90% of them just sit in garages
Excellent video catch up on the fleet looking forward to car trek
I originally subbed on my other account to this channel because of the apollo 911, it's really cool to see it back and so alive!
Apollo 911 is back! I hope this time we don't hear the classic "Houston, we have a problem" again 😂😂😂
We Love Hoovie because of the crazy decisions and the targa fully built and good exhaust sounds good to me
I really love the blue on that Escalade. Glad to see the Apollo 911 back in action, too. I'm sure Porsche purists hate it with a bloody passion, but I can't help digging it. Seems like an LS swap is always the answer to our high performance requirements. As for the 911 'Cabrio', without its Targa hoop that chassis is probably very flexy, so I don't think it's worth messing with. I'd just part it out.
Cars are apart of our family. Glad to see you finally got your family member back!
I would go with the original Bosch CIS and the top end rebuild plus head studs. You do not need super high performance on a cabrio conversion. BTW, is it not time to add a dry sump setup to A 911?
I honestly would love to see that red 911 being revived, but do you think putting 10k+ on a car with a cut roof be worth it when you list it for sale?
That's one of the coolest Porsches ever! Also that Escalade is one of the best colors!
Do the right thing(s) for the Red Porsche … she deserves it ! All the way baby !
The car is worth is doing all the right stuff too it. It’s an air cooled Porsche!
@Dominick not my job to explain anything we all know projects work don’t do into anything with your eyes closed and you won’t be surprised, well most of the time anyway lol
Gonna admit I don’t know how I feel about the sound of the ls swap. It’s cool and all but it’s a base shout as opposed to a second tenor scream which is what I think fits a Porsche better. But its still cool nonetheless.
Completely agree, the flat 6 would sound a lot better. A Porsche chassis should have a Porsche engine, end of.
But the car is about being different and turning car guys heads.
I like that S/C 911. A few years back I considered selling all my stuff to get one. Since this one has been cut up, I’d keep the engine basic and enjoy as is. Frankly, that’s about the only way I’d ever be able to get one - as a hooptie. Happy to know they exist.
Gotta hand it to ya Hoovie, no jumpin’ the shark yet. I’m impressed. You go bub yo go
