Salena Jones does a great version of Am I the Same Girl /Soulful Strut on another of her albums “Everybody’s Talking About Salena Jones”. Will bag a copy of that album just for that track, if I ever see it out in the wild. Cheers Lawrence 🙏
Ooh! that Gloria Lynne is wonderful - just bagged a copy! Brian Bennet from the Shadows! Great session drummer...love that Annette Peacock - very sexy album...excellent selections as ever Lawrence
Nice picks mate. Sarah Vaughan Feelin' Good and A Time In My Life lps both have their funky moments and are great cheapies. Jazz singer getting funky doesn't get any better than Blossom Dearie - I Like London In The Rain, which I know you will be very familiar with. Regards Nige
@nigelcampag1290 that's a great one... been on my radar for a while, but a bit out of my league! Chicken feathers is another good one, I can't remember the singers name, but again, a megabucks record... I'll look out for the cheapies. Cheers!
@@melomano4145 Took me a long time to find a Blossom Dearie but it's one of those a dealer could just assume it's a cheapie and put out in their cheap bin. Hope you find one. The Sarah Vaughan tracks to check from those two lps btw are Evil Ways and Inner City Blues, both on YT of course. Cheers Nige
Hey Lawrence. Brilliant meeting you Saturday. Are you familiar with 'The Dierdre Wilson Tabac' 'I Cant keep From Crying Sometimes'? Its a fantastic bit of Jazz/soul..& a one from the last few years The Mario Bondi quintet 'This is what you are,' which is again a jazzy finger snapper with great soul horns, a brilliant recent discovery for me on a 12"
@Harrispilton22 hi Harris, the deirdre wilson tabac is a classic... really love that one. I like the Mario bondi tune as well (of course you have it on 12 inch!)... its giving me slightly chris rea home for Christmas vibes, but that's not a bad thing. Great to see everyone this week, all the best
Interesting selection of records I will look for some of those titles. Another female Soul Jazz vocalist that is a favorite is Eloise Laws, sister to the Ronnie & Hubert Laws. Look for ELOISE lp 1977 ABC Records a great album. ✌
Always some great selections. Love that you put a spotlight on Alice from my home country of Sweden. It is still like a 5 pound record over here. But the track you played is a great one indeed.
@magnuslarsson9161 it's a lovely one... Sadly a bit more than £5 outside Sweden, but I got it very reasonably a while ago. I wonder what other gems are hidden on Swedish cheap heat. Cheers!
@@melomano4145 Sadly i think "brexit" messed up a lot of record prices. I mean i used to buy so much stuff from the UK. But now i get hit with an extra 25% in taxes when importing to sweden. And i guess it is the same of for exampel Swedish records coming in to the UK. So that lone would make it more expensive.
@magnuslarsson9161 yes it's been a real pain... and I think discogs and Ebay have increased overseas charges so it's not really worth it anymore. I used to get stuff from the US and Europe and get some deals; not anymore!
The Peacock is a solid and under rated Lp, I own it!!! Side 2 is where the magic happens. 'X Dreams' worth a listen as well, but not as strong. The Hipsters look for- 'I'm the one', which is one to avoid!
@miketomlin6040 Great, I'll check them out. I really enjoy this one, do a little exploring sounds good. I will consider myself forewarned about the hipsters choice!
@@nigelcampag1290 You are safe, a hipster record is overhyped, costs a lot and the muzak is poor, or at best average. MellowMan has one on his wall, the Mason effort!

Excellent selection of funky tunes there. Great stuff!! I purchased that Natalie Cole album not so long ago.

I'm The One is great but it's not soulful funk as such. More in the electronic psych vein but still gets funky . It does sell for a few quid though.
