      It's a great record! That slip mat was from a record shop that closed down years ago, a memento of the past. Cheers!

    Lezli cut the original of Love on a two way street , I won't do anything was first cut by Sylvia in 68. Lezli was a member of the Jaynetts in 63 when they had their only smash, Sally go round the roses.

      @MalcolmBaumgart there seems to have been a lot of covering back and forth in those days, and in the All Platinum universe, there seems to be lots of covers. It's all good music though!

      Right and I also heard that she never got writer's credit for it either a shame

    "It has come to my attention" was also done by Dee Edwards and it was featured in a skateboarding video a while back. The folks who were looking for it were able to figure out what a song it was because somebody new the original.
    I have all of these on cd by mine have fewer crackles. Not sure why I get the stink-eye when I mention cds because much of the in demand vinyl is in G-- condition.

      Well, people get very sanctimonious about vinyl, to be honest... It's the music that matters in the end.
      I think the Dee Edwards version was done in the late 80s or there abouts, and it sounds like it. I love the Cleo version. She has another 45 I'd love to get too, but that's very scarce. Cheers!

    Northern Soul, aka 10000 45's that sound the same! A stereotypical view but some truth to it. I play grade these as they mostly go abroad and at the end of a 2-3 hr session they all seem to merge into one.

      I know what you mean, which is why I'm very picky. I've only got a few records that could be considered 'northern', and that's fine. They also seem to have crazy prices, which is a real turn off.

      @@melomano4145 Some do, but a lot are obtainable for a dollar or two. I'd anticipate them falling soonish, as most of the 'fans' of the sounds seem to be in the 60-70 age range

    • @melomano4145
      @melomano4145  9 місяців тому

      @miketomlin6040 that's a good point. I'm anticipating a general collapse in the vinyl market sometime in the next 20 years or so... it can't last forever.

      @@melomano4145 I'm not, but music sales do tend to adopt generational dynamics and the N Soul boyos and girlos are going to cease to be, or increasingly ceasing to be 'bothered' by collecting in the next decade or so. It's possible the sounds get more attractive to younger buyers and some/many were pressed in limited numbers so may retain more value than I anticipate. I must have about 3-4k NS 45's in my shed which I am seeking to remove ASAP so hopefully any decline in value is not that imminent.

      @@melomano4145 I'm a Northern fan and have been waiting for the market to collapse for the last ten years ! I'm 72 next and will probably collapse before the prices do ! But yes crazy prices. I was just watching a couple of USA eBay auctions finish yesterday. £4500 + for just three 45s in my collection.
      I did know all the [very nice] 45s you played. I had a record outlet in Manchester [OUT OF THE PAST] and used to regularly visit the USA between '88-96 for 3 months at a time. Looking for Northern 45s but I'd also been turned on to the 2-step and rare groove thing in the late 80's by a London guy , Victor. A couple of hours tutorial and I got the sound.
      Albums were everywhere back then for peanuts. First place I walked into looking for albums in '88 was an Atlanta warehouse. More or less 2000 sealed albums for $2000. Must have bought thousands over the years. Stuff in quantity that is now big bucks. Used to do the London fairs. One time the table went over with so many people trying to look.
      I think Mike has a point but then I contend if you listen to any style of music non-stop from rap to metal it's gonna get samey. Though Northern is my main interest I'm quite into lovers rock and 2-step as well. Today I got a 1966 UK original of Frankie Valli "You're ready now". Next week I'm expecting from USA Jeannie Reynolds "Cherries Bananas...." album.
