We have tangs in all our aquariums. So far not incidents to report. They just need a big aquarium.

That's over 1 ton in total weight for this filled up tank plus rock work and equipment. Just a normal floor is supposed to be rated for 40 pounds per square foot and a gallon of saltwater weights like 9 pounds! How come the floor of that apartment hasn't caved in already? For apartments it's recommended that aquarium tanks no more than 100 gallons are installed.
Jay, here in South Florida all buildings over a certain height/floors need to be constructed out of post-tensioned rebar slab which is quite durable and can handle significant amounts of weight. We have some larger aquariums (around 1200g - 1500g) upstairs in high rises that are able to handle the loads just fine. Of course, the building engineers are required to sign off on projects such as this. We have had requests to build aquariums in buildings that cannot handle the load before, at which point we usually determine loads and build an aquarium around that. (It's all about the depth of the water for weight over a point!) - Joe
