Wow- as primitive as it was I can still appreciate the modeling and animation and lighting work because that's what I'm learning to do now and it's not nearly as simple as it looks.
I'm nostalgic today, just came to realize I started playing it since the first day at Open Beta. GGG made a good fucking work with this game. Thank you.
Dear developers, I know you guys are reading the comments and are really listening to the community a lot. Please, hear this - you have made the best ARGP of all time. I am an oldschool D2 player. I actually started playing back when it was made. I was born in 1991 and you can imagine, I grew up with the game. When D2 came out I used to sneak to a gaming club and use my school food money to run around as a Paladin, wearing a beautiful shiny Sigon's set. I wasn't very conscious about the game, I think I stayed in the act 2 for like a month or so, I was like 11-12? I don't remember now.. so many years later I thought to myself, wouldn't it be cool to have a game similar to that, but with more depth, a counter-intuitive action game which makes you trying and combining the infinite amount of times, until you finally find something and feel really proud because of the hard grinding and stuff.. something like a grown up ersion of D2. And I found PoE. Here I am, on my 500th hour, running a lvl 90 heist toxic rain pathfinder and literally restoring my psychic state while being on a sick leave at work. AND you gave me a friggin magical cosmic microtransaction armor for 30 points? You gotta be kidding me. As soon as PoE 2 comes out, I will start restart a streaming career. I used to have a relative success streaming as a musical producer. But now I will be PoE 2 streamer for Russian and International community. 29 years old, goals set straight, never married. Thanks for helping me get through this weird time.
thats a huge difference between how you started the game back in 2008 and how it looks now, that reveals how much effort and hard work was put into this magnificent project, well done GGG and your game is blueprint that i expect to see many other game developing companies will be following in the mechanics and style, and it's now completely different from Diablo but in a much better way
that's a retarded comment because there is no skill tree in D3, and the endgame content of diablo3 is basically an ENTIRELY different type of game altogether.
Honestly it might not even be there at this point in dev, though I wonder if some nostalgia goggles are making me view D1 less objective than I should - either way it's awesome to see how far PoE has come in the last decade! If there are any aspiring game developers checking this video out it's a great example of what grit, dedication and constant iteration can achieve.
Its interesting to see how its changed, Im amazed at how much more harsh light radius was you can tell they really wanted a dark feel and its been maintained reasonably i'd say considering how the games evolved and PoE 2 demo's we've seen seem to bring some more of it back as well.
Great video. It's really cool to see what you guys were working on back while I was looking for a good game to play. I would love to see more of these.
You've being working on this game for quit a long time... it's amazing to see how you succeeded to do one of the best hack n' slash games of all times. Your design decisions and the complexity of the mechanics are astounding, and the game works for casual and hardcore players the same. CONGRATS!
thanks for taking the time outta ur busy schedule to make this chris :)...would love to see some short videos in the future of anything tbh whats on ur mind, maybe bring back build of the week though that would take a lot of time I feel like
I like how he thought green loot text would be confusing and now we have Loot Filters with all kinds of crazy colours and sounds. It's just how you associate things.
Amazing! It's so cool that you guys showed us this. Proof that something excellent can come from nothing. Best RPG I ever played, here's hoping for many years of Path of Exile!
Blue as in magic. For items and monsters you have four categories: white, which are basic items/monsters, blue (Magic), which have up to two modifications, yellow (Rare), which have more mods and orange/brown (Uniques). If you notice in the video, the monkey's name is written in blue, meaning it's a blue monster.
Amazing how far this game has come! Keep up the good work! Curious as to how many people were working on the project at this point for all the different positions compared to now.
Yeah, the hardest part of a developing is combine interface with a base gameplay code, and the final stage is to create level tiles, textures and effects
