- This week we demonstrate renatobaal's Ranger. It's an awesome build that uses Tempest Shield with high shield block, lots of Critical Strike chance and Elemental Proliferation to keep enemies shocked while Molten Shell and a Detonate Dead totem clean them up. In case you didn't know, they're looking to start Open Beta mid-August so that's a good chance of trying it a bit early.
They're also wiping the characters to level the playing field, which saddens me quite a bit.

Not really. He doesn't sacrifice his evasion rating, he converts it into armour because that fits the build better (resisting rather than evading damage)

Depends on what your build is. You can do whatever you want. The difference between the characters is their distance from specific passive skills in the passives tree. And their look ofc.
You can for example go for iron Reflexes as a witch but it will take more points to spend than if you do it as a duelist. Marauder does better if he uses two-handed weapons. That doesn't mean he can't use wands though.
i really like this build but i agree with you to an extent. I feel like he could potentially use flicker strike instead of viper strike to deal with the single enemies, as well as helping deal with ranged targets better, while being more engaging in combat.

the last stress test I didn't encounter such problems, they just test if their servers can handle it, so if the servers are good enough (which they were last time around) you won't have any problems :)

If you build your character properly then yes it's possible for a wand wielding marauder to be better than 2h. The key point here is that you CAN optimize your character properly in this manner if you desired.
That you can do a thing like this, and that they're going to be adding a LOT more skills, means the game will last almost forever in some form or another.
And playing a D2 Enchant Sorceress is fun as hell.

So you take passive skill every level and all skill comes in gems? So what I did look you can make totems that use spells :D and make double shot (increase number of missiles) can you make totem use this? and can you make so when you active totem it summon 2 totem same time but in exchange do little less dmg? if possible I will make that :D
Most rangers use bows but you can play how you want.
Signed up last year in april and been active on the forum still haven't gotten a beta and this is while the invite counter invites people who just signed up a month ago at this point it is really frustrating since I really want to play the game.
If anyone have a key they don't use I would very much appreciate it.

looks awesome, but they need to brush up the combat animations, looks very robotic and theres no sense of impact with each hit.
You build diversity by making your own choice, not by someone forcing you go to one path and stick with it entirely.
Stat requirement also restrict you from choosing your weapon.
It's not like you can get to this build without any pre-requirement.
Btw in D3, a wizard can even wield a bow without any requirement.
And instead of using it, it just takes its damage and cast spell, that's all.
Is that what you mean by "CLASS DIVERSITY"?

you can't tank in a party if you have no damage, everything will ignore you.

I wanna know how it feels to make a game that offers this much diversity in skill and gear builds. I mean the fact that this is possible is just amazing.

Exactly: if you did anything different it would be different -- which is why I was talking about what I would do, not what he would do. I wouldn't want to cast Molten Shell as rapidly, and he's already using totems so that defeats your argument. Considering the near total lack of mana, Zombies would be perfect. You'd still easily trigger the shock every few seconds, especially if you didn't focus passives on them. They deal damage and get affected by auras.
Spent $10 to try the game out. I got hooked straight away. Thank you GGG for developing a game that blows that other certain game out of the water in customization and looks (and pretty much everything else). Can't wait to play the end product.

I hate to say it but i've played this game and its already much better than Diablo III and if you liked Diablo II this is an awesome game to try. I mean look at the skill tree and the amazing possibilities and end-game maps whereas Diablo III just switch a couple runes and there you go. You spend more time in AC then searching for items because legendary items are not worth it.
Which i spend the money of Diablo III CE on this game! Oh i will soon! Its free, its innovative and not cartoony!

Any character can use any weapon in this game. There are no limits. Marauder can use wand too. It's your choice how do you build.
It sounds like you are looking for a more casual game in which the choices are made for you and not looking forward to making an effort or interesting builds. In which case I would say this game is definitely not for you. That wasn't meant to be an insult or anything by the way, in case you take it the wrong way. And classes do have strengths and weaknesses and there are reasons to play a ranger with a bow and so forth. However the diversity of the passive tree allows otherwise.
well, I dont see my Templar having 68% block chance, I took every possible block from the tree and have items that are high on block and I take care of that grately. Something must be wrong then because this "ranger" has way higher block chance then my damn templar. My duelist is great with a bow because of hi dexterity, and due to high evasion he can be great with a letter opener. Skill tree is flawed and I rest my case. Feel free to disagree, it's your opinion, this one is mine ;)
Why make classes in the first place then? If the only difference is the starting point in the stat tree then it seems like a waste of time for a little more then just a skin. At least then dont call that class ranger, call it, I don't know, but it isn't ranger that's for sure. 2H mage in elder scrolls is a bad idea because he is never going to be good with 2H...I am just saying, if any class can be equally good with any weapon/armor then having classes is moot.
The only thing this game is missing imo is body physics like the one in D3. It's so immensly satisfying to jump into the middle of a big group of mobs, blow them up with a powerful spell or ability and watch the bodies fly all over the place. Whereas here they only roll over and die or explode into tiny pieces. Apart of that PoE is perfect. I'm definitely leaving Diablo when this comes out:) Can't wait!!
Molten Shell is still there. Yes the skill tree is very different now, but I don't think the point of these videos is to show you exactly how to make those builds, but more to show you how versatile and synergic their whole skill system is and how you can make countless different builds if you give it a little thought.
LOL. Best line in this video is at 1:10. "Note that this passive skill tree is the old one which will be outdated tomorrow." Then what is the point in making this video? To show us something you can no longer do? This is the only problem with this game and GGG. They should have wiped their forums and wiki upon open beta. Most of their info is way out of date.
Sorry for the name calling, it was stupid. Anyways.. my point still stands... I enjoy having different pre set classes to show your strength and weakness. Like Black mage, good for magic, can only use magic stuff... etc.. or soldiers with heavy armour...
I think its dumb having something like soldiers using wands, or mages using swords.. you know what I mean?
lvl 38 i think, I dont play him much but with the last reset/respec he is totaly op with return dmg. I will try to polish taht and apply him for your viewing pleasure to show you how wrong all this is set up. And it is. It's fun, I am not hating (except that ranger with dager and shield is not really a ranger which is why I was commenting in the first place)
I think you mistake "can play a ranger without a bow" with "have to play a ranger without a bow". I can't see how a pure possibility makes you bitch around like Robin in Batman & Robin abomination. It's not Diablo and I think you keep thinking about it as if it was. Does a possibility to grab 2h as a mage in Oblivion made it stupid game?
I felt so sick participating in the open beta, it felt like I was robbing these poor guys in broad daylight. So I bought some cosmetic effects for my account, as this game is just too damn good to play for free. I would play this game even if it cost for £50 a month!

"Ranger MUST use bow", "Wizard MUST use wand" shits...
That is why many games no longer offer diversities and customization...
Oh I have beta access, but I haven't played too much. I know I will loose my character at some point so I dont want to sink too much time into this for now. I played my huntress till about lv.35 I think (it was a while ago) and loved it. I will play this game till my eyes bleed when it comes out:D
This unique character building is exactly what i expected and hoped to be able to do in D3... and was so desperately disappointed, as many many others. PoE is everything D3 could have been and i'm glad, that GGG really knows how an ARPG should look like. Keep it up! Can't wait for the Open Beta!
ringer without a bow...no matter how good this build is the sole fact that you can play a ranger without a bow seems pretty messed up for me. Maybe I will build a witch that wields 2 hander...makes sense...
so how is this a ranger class ? there is only a single viable "ranged" build for this, the rest are melee, spell/dual wield/1h+shield even 2h melee. You need to buff some passives for this class
he casts three spells in succesion there: grace aura (swirly lines around character) tempast shield (bright illumination on shield) and moltne shell (red shields around character)
Too bad it's only for the weekend, I'll be waiting for the open beta instead, as the servers will probably be lagging making the game experience not so great for me.
i meant he sacrificed avoidance to soak more damage while actually getting hit more. which converts obviously into more damage since he is getting hit more. bleh

On the top of the passive skilltreee I see that there are respec points in the game. How can you get them?

No, the last character wipes will occur when the open beta goes live. Characters played during open beta will not be whipped when the game goes gold.
will there be something in talents that help new players? like small tutorial what will tell you (base on your char) what talents you should get?

I hope it inspired you to be honest to add the degeneration aura gem sometime soon so we can get some more AOE tank builds goin'.

Game looks pretty good. Hopefully there is more end-game compared to Diablo 3. :)
This game is mostly about meta. Once you have an effective build, the skill ceiling for play is relatively low.
Funny, how my first character was build up exactly like shown. But who makes use of all those great weapons then?
save up 10 bucks, buy one of those prepaid visa cards at cvs for 10 bucks and get in as soon as you want! :D
I would use Raise Zombie to help soak up damage too.
Actually this is what a game looked like back in the mid to late 90's. But still a great game.
There is no need to use the shared opinion about D3 by PoE players as a way to gain thumbs up.
That is exactly what you should do, because it is the beauty of making builds in this game.

this build.... is amazing..... and so is the game!
The skill tree actually makes you build a character from scratch exactly the way you want it,with specific skills,it is so versatile i have played alot of games but it,s the first time i ever seen one this versatile the skill tree is proof of that.
This game makes me happy for not buying diablo III
