"Just continue on with life as if everything is normal" Good advice.
My triggers are
Cold
Energy
Thinking about health
Happiness
Excitement
Fear
Stress
Edit: I don't have Tourette's, I just have ADHD and I get tics from that.
omg i didnt realize that cold could actually be a trigger. That makes soooo much sense for me now because my tics are always worse or change when its cold. Wish i had realized this sooner
Same bro
Omg same same same😂😂 I’ve only just noticed how much I tic because they’re becoming more tense (screaming out of the blue and hitting a person that’s next to me)
Yep
chaotic carebear Ye I’m scared of spiders and when I see one I will usually tic
''Don't blink. Don't even blink. Blink and you're dead. They are fast, faster than you could believe, don't turn your back, don't look away, and don't blink. Good luck.'' Haha :). Great video Haley , very informative. I love all of your videos and I have OCD so i can relate to you in a big way . Thank you !
+Charlie Arnott Oh my goodness this made me smile! I love that! Hahahaha! Thank you! ❤️
No problem :) haha. It's nice to see another Who fan on here. Who's your favourite Doctor ?
I like David Tennant a lot. But Mat Smith was really good too. I haven't seen any of the newer ones though because they took it off of netflix....
Oh that's cool :) . Yeah i loved David Tennant , he is the best in my opinion. I loved his second series when The Master came back towards the end, that was fantastic writing. I really liked Matt Smith too, although he wasn't as good as David in my opinion . Peter Capaldi is a good actor but unfortunately the writing has just got really bad lately , which is sad . Hopefully it will pick up after this series. Do you not catch it on BBC America? I usually just watch Tennant dvd's , it helps take my mind off my OCD a bit which is nice :)
I don't have TV now that I moved out on my own so I can't watch it if its not on netflix! :( I did notice I didn't like the newer seasons (that I had watched) as much as the older ones. That stinks it isn't as good. :/ My two favorites on Netlix currently are NCIS and The Flash!
I have a tic where i say “i just did a line of coke”
oh my lord
Oof
yes
😭😭i guess im lucky i only have motor tics, hope ur doing well
LMAO
That's a great way to explain it! Not to blink. I also have Tourette Syndrome and trying to suppress a cough is the best way I always explain it
Glenn Porter EXACTLY I just got done explaining that to some one lol
Yeah, I was diagnosed with OCD and mild Tourette Syndrome. Right now, I cross my eyes a lot and don't realize the whole day until I have a headache behind my eyes. It's really annoying. Sometimes I go a long time without any ticks, and then they come back again suddenly! I don't even realize I'm doing it until someone asks me what I'm doing and I'm like... ooh yeah I didn't realize I was looking across the room every 20 seconds. It's weird! What the heck?!?
*Hannah M* what is mild tourettes
*Hannah M* I’m ocd and have rlly bad ts
*Hannah M* I have literally the same problem
Me too, I do the crossing eye thing, I also have this tic where I tilt my neck to the right side. My OCD is getting worse than it was last year, so that's also making my tics get worse.
When a person with tics like me sees new tics it makes my tics take on that tics... So thanks 😂 bc now I can't stop
I have tourette syndrome
Oh my lord its so annoying
I wish there was a cure
A little dose of cannabis helps. A friend of mine can go for whole days without tics if he has his thc pen with him
@@notsdandard3449 not for everyone thc and cbd both make me tic more 😂I wish it wound work for me cause that would be a life changer but it actually just makes me struggle to control the tics and then I just tic a lot😂😂
@@notsdandard3449 I'm sure cannabis is illegal
Can a person have a tic where they do a back flip? Just curious.
Don’t mind me. I’m just afraid of everything. Yes
No lol
they can, i met a lad at tourettes camp who did a handstand as a tic
It would be a very rare case, cause i think motor tics tend to be more like a spasm or a simple motor movement
@Skate 06 you have a tic that makes you backlip?
I got a buddy who likes to joke about my tics and likes to trigger me. And you know what? For me it's the best reaction ever bc it makes me feel normal. My tics aren't something to ignore completely nor a forbidden topic. They are a part of me and my daily life and why not have fun with them? Sure it's not for everybody and when it's too much I'll tell him and he stops but mostly I enjoy the jokes. It makes me feel accepted and like it's not a big deal. But laughing at them is something I personally don't get bc... they're not always that funny, they just look weird
Lil Kill that's really not ok, and I think it's important you tell this person it's not okay to joke about another person's issues. It sounds like he's very immature and oblivious to how civilized and intelligent people interact. You deserve better than to hang out with someone that likes to trigger you and laugh, I say talk to him about this and if he doesn't stop for good, find new friends, he doesn't deserve you if he can't respect you.
Lauren Cocozza we both talked about it and he does stop when I'm not cool with it but most of the time I am. And as I just said before it's one of my favorite reactions. I'm more than just fine with, I even like the jokes. I can understand if someone doesn't like it and I know he wouldn't do it if I wouldn't be ok with it. But I am so there is no problem for me :) everything's fine and everybody deals differently with their issues ^~^
I don't have super bad tics most of the time, and I really enjoy joking about it. When I tic suddenly (I mostly just have motor tics), and startle people, even people who know I have it, I'll laugh and say "Oh sorry, I'm possessed." Elliot TicTac is right...for me, being able to joke about it brings a sense of normalcy. Also, it helps the people around me feel less awkward. They realize they can talk to me, ask me questions about it, and I won't get offended. I don't make fun of other people's tics. It can be super hard, especially when the tics are more severe. So when we can joke about it, and when others can joke about it with us, it's not really a respect thing at all. It's just one of the ways we deal with it.
@@romanceisthis Many people actually love finding the humor in tourettes. Making random noises and movements is funny and unusual, there's no doubt about it. So why not embrace it? Of course, people shouldn't laugh at people's tics without permission but many people don't mind it when people joke about the tics. I personally prefer it when my friends just point out my tics up front if they notice them instead of trying to ignore it. It makes me feel like there's less tension and anxiety around it.
I’m 11 and I like get really itchy and I “tic” or twitch I’m not diagnosed with tics but I feel like I have them I might be asking my mom to go and get me checked to see if I have them.
Yeah I have tics I got them in friday and by Saturday my mom, dad and stepmom all took me to the hospital and they gave me three strong pills to calm down my muscles spasms, mine started with a cough and they got worse hopefully your okay!
Omg same
U have to have it for over a year
I had a coughing tic at first (and blinking and shoulder shrugging) when I was about 6 or 7 and I dint have noticeable tics for a while until I moved school then I *think* I had a tic attack the night before I started school with a blinking and coughing tic. Then I had a neck tic, saying 'ugh' or clicking my teeth and moving my arm up and down. Now I twitch occasionally and still have a neck tic.
I know no one is rlly interested but do u think I may have tourettes or a tic disorder? Just curious.
@Kali Evelynn I don't have that tic anymore luckily. I just have a bad neck tic but occasionally when I really think about my tics that and the 'ugh' tic sometimes come back.
I've been so self conscious about my tics especially in school and they made me feel so unnormal and gave me a lot of anxiety. I thought it was just me until one of teachers had one too and then I didn't feel so alone. I tried searching up why I would have these repetitive sniffs or facial movements or sounds but I couldn't really find anything. this video helped me understand them and makes me feel like I'm not alone. this video was so relatable. thank you so much
+Darlene Tran I'm so sorry you've felt that way! I know the struggle and I feel that way a lot too! ❤️ Have you ever spoken to anyone about it or had a diagnosis?
Haley's Life Through A Lens After watching your video, I told my sister and my mom and she said I can go to the doctors for a diagnosis soon. thank you so much for this video. it helped me so much ❤
Wow that's amazing! I hope you find some answers!!!
Haley's Life Through A Lens I don't know if I have tourettes but I've been doing a lot of research on it and sometimes I have to blink a lot or move my eyes in certain directions, I also have to jerk my head a lot and also my arms and wrists and also my mouth and tongue also sometimes when people mention stuff in tic videos like nose sniffling it makes me to it too also it's worse when I think about it and i usually don't notice if I'm distracted, also people always ask me why I blink a lot, but idk if I have tourettes cause I haven't gone to the doctor and im 14, when I told my mom that I think I might have tourettes or a tic disorder she basically just said "tourettes is a serious thing" and so we haven't gone to the doctor cause she thought I was joking or something
Darlene Tran have you gone to the doctor? and have they told you anything?
I have a tics where I blink really hard like every few seconds and it’s starting to hurt and give me headaches it might be bad one day but it really hurts I’ve been doing it pretty much for my entire life I wish there was a way to stop this tic.
This was great. The analogy you used to describe how tics are involuntary but can also be suppressed was spot on and really useful. I often find it hard to explain this to people and it's the reason why my parents took so long to realise I had a disorder, as I would tic uncontrollably and then miraculously stop for a while, without an explanation. So thanks for uploading this and I will definitely be using that analogy from now on.
I know Weedborn has the best CBD products ever.
Hey Haley, thank you so much for making this video! You are a blessing! I have been struggling with tourettes most of my life and it has been a tough journey. When I am worried, stressed or lacking sleep, it gets worse. When I am happy, not worried and around people I like, it is almost like I have no tourettes at all. I hope they find a cure one day.
Sending much love from NYC!
I am so glad I found this video. I was always so hard to explain my tics but this helped so much. Now when people have questions I just tell them to watch this video or i just remember what you said to help them understand what it feels like.
I have TS, and this video is one of the best I've seen. Super in love with your explanation, way better than I could have thought to have done and presented very well.
Amazing.
Hey, thanks for the video.
I have Tourettes, I explain the feeling as like when you hold your breath and then you get to the point that you need to breath! and the feeling of tension and anxiety that increases the longer you wait...
All the best.
This explains it super duper well!!
you have explained it really well
Wow great video! Very interesting! And you look beautiful !!!
+Abby Pie Thank you!
Also this is the best video ive found explaining this and I will have to share it around
I’m trying to learn more about the syndrome because I have a friend who has it. I’ve never actually seen her tic before because her case is kinda mild and hard to notice but I still wanna learn about it so I can understand her a bit better
And a tic attack is like being unable to blink while sitting with your face in a fan
For someone with constant tics I would say that the bug bite one where it feels impossible to resist is the best example. Sometimes I but my full force into stopping a simple tic like readjusting in bed and when I do it feels like I’m about to crack any second and sometimes when I try really hard random parts of my body like my hands or feet will have a little spasm like I just built up some kind of powerful force that had to get out.
I use to have very bad tics I’m so very happy they went away after many years
I love the video. I get premonitory urges and over time the feeling really builds up and gets stronger until I tic. When I do tic after holding it in I feel a really strong good feeling running through my arms and my body and I feel really good afterwards as well when I have let them out. Sometimes I can suppress them for hours
As someone living tourette syndrome there are days it really sucks and sometimes painful
this was very informative!
My verbal tics feel like hiccups (clicking noise with side of my mouth, and saying ‘whoop!’), and my motor tic (moving my tongue in weird positions) is more like an itch that I need to scratch, but both I do without thinking about them at all… especially if I’m anxious about where I’m at or whatever. Normally I don’t realize I’ve done it until someone laughs at it/tells me I’m funny because they don’t know it’s a tic, but after someone has pointed it out I will notice them SO MUCH because I feel like they’ll realize it’s something I can’t control. :p
Yes The Weeping Angels. Love the video.
I have tics and I can relate very well
You should do the hold in your tics challenge!
the animal orchestra classic nickname form tics in middle and high school!
It's like having hiccups
That's a good way to put it!☺️
No it’s not.
I'd say more like a sneeze 🤔
Jamie Moore it’s different for everyone bitchass
Miss Tea the hiccups isn’t like no tic 😂
Hi! You explained very well how the urge to tic feels. Please make one video on the reasons behind tics disorders. What neurological or psychological reasons behind tics?.
It's neurological it is directly connected to emotions
@@you_dont_know_me6583 yes but what's the physiology responsible for it. Why this urge to tic is generated? I would liek to understand the biology part of it.
@@siddhidesai6532 There is no known reason behind it. It's a neurological disorder so, it's caused by confused signals and misfires in the brain but, that's about all we know. It may be linked to decreased dopamine levels though and there is most likely a genetic component. It is also more common in males than females.
Great video!!! Idk if this is an invasive question, but what r ur tics?
My tics worsen when under stress and anxiety. Tics are like pressure building-up in a mini tank, the longer I go without ticking, the more the “pressure” builds-up. The tic is like opening a valve to release the pressure. As soon as I tic, I feel better, but also, the “pressure” immediately starts to build-up again, thus leading to another tic in a minute or 2.
I have tourettes i explain it as holding in an itch but holding open your eyes is a better explanation because blinking is inevitable but if you hold in an itch it will eventually go away, which is not the case with tourettes
SUPPORT AND SYMPATHY. I have extreme tourettes syndrome
When I suppress my tics the feeling is a lot more intense and they are more difficult to control. The feeling I get after the tics is a lot stronger as well
I don’t know if this is considered a tic, however I cannot breathe without swallowing after almost every breath. And I do this subconsciously, all throughout the day. If I try to stop it, I feel like I can’t breathe and that I need to swallow. This isn’t due to excess mucus in my throat, but rather the feeling of needing to clear my throat and swallow. Any thoughts?
i don't think i have tourettes but i started ticing yesterday and it started when i started watching the conjuring 2 and i have no idea why and this day is almost over and i'm still doing it
I have tic disorder i don't even realize that squeeze my hands in fist then 2sec later i make squeaking sound and people looks at im a wierdo but i cant help it
I have a head tic. Sometimes, I'm not even aware of it until somebody asks if I disagree with something they just said!
I haven't been diagnosed but I have SEVERE complex motor ticks, and several minor vocal ticks plus one that is like the grudge noise.
My motor ticks are legit painful cause they're so violent and make me punch my hands out really hard or tighten my joints really hard so that they repeatedly pop and I hate it.
I actually kinda started having some tics while listening to songs... Mostly some Melanie Martinez songs. They're usually head tics and sometimes eye blinks. I think I can manage and stop them if I want to, but I just focus on the song that I don't even think about the tics anymore. Is this normal?
I also have some moments when ill grunt or click and people will stare its kind of embarrassing when not being able to notice until someone asks me what im doing I dont understand it exactly yet
We live in a society where i could understand that one would want to suppress their own tics. What if you don't care, and just let it be? Would one be able to live normally with torrettes? When does it become a problem?
I keep having this same tick we’re I jerk my head backwards really fast it hurts really bad but I can’t stop it, I have some other things but there not really that bad
I'm not diagnosed with tourettes but I've been feeling that I might have tourettes but I also doubted it bc I was under the impression that people with tourettes can not suppress or even had triggers that made their tics feel more urgent/worse. Now I feel that I might have maybe a milder case of tourettes. I've noticed for the past two years that sometimes I shake my hand like I'm shaking something off of it or on my left hand I rub my pinky nail with my thumb and I just do it like it's second nature. When I'm very stressed or happy or just any emotion that comes to me overwhelmingly I have a sudden urge to scream or yell or groan. Honestly sometimes when I'm just alone I feel like yelling. I suppress those feelings and I think that's maybe why when I'm alone I feel like yelling even though nothing significant is or has happened. Sometimes I feel like shaking my head. Two years ago I was in my math class and we were doing independant work and the class was a little quieter as most people were listening to music with their earbuds while doing work, I usually have almost like warning seconds before I feel like I want to tic but this time it just happened, I shook my head and groaned and my classmate next to me look at me weirdly and with a little bit concern, asked if I was okay. I felt so embarrassed, in the moment I wanted to run away and cry to be honest. Ever since then i always try to suppress if I feel like I want to yell or shake my head. I really want to ask !y doc Abt it but I also don't want to make unnecessary trip right now as the pandemic is still amongst us. Maybe one day on a annual check-up I'll ask to speak to my doctor privately.
I nod a lot. I used to tense my arm or shake my head, but now i keep nodding. My Mum says its a habit, because I can suppress it, but in the end, i nod anyway. Its really frustrating when I'm at school because I know people are realizing that I keep nodding. Do you know any good therapy for it?
4:21 - 4:25 she says "itch it."
I was diagnosed with tourette syndrome when I was literally 8 years old and my tics still happen today but It sucks cuz I have like literally all of the tics where I move I blink I have a breathing one and a sound one and now that this has been going on for years no one believes me when I try to tell them
Is it weird that when I’m watching videos with someone with Tourette’s I twitch a lot and I’m not sure what that means
I don’t think I have a tick but randomly my eyebrows go up and down
And I have to close my eyes and close them tight
I think I have tics my foot keeps twitching or maybe I'm wrong and it's something else because I keep doing it in class
Every time There’s a tic in my arm and I have to like wave it I feel like somethings in the air and I have to catch it
woah i did the blinking thing and my body just gave in and started blinking uncontrollably
my tics :
blinking
raising eyebrow
shrugging shoulders
slap the back of my hand off of something
hum
stretch my legs
twist my arms
open my mouth wide
sometimes I slap my face ( I hate this in public omg)
clench my toes
things that trigger tics;
any of my phobias (bugs)
sitting down doing nothing
watching anything related to Tourette's( this video lol)
if im tired
if im excited or nervous
and sometimes just out of the blue
I have one where i slightly scream and grunt which is weird because it only happens when i think of it
I have tics from stress and my adhd im geting Tested for ASTISUM and more/ i told my mom my mom said ok she told my teacher my dr and all
I only tic if someone touches me and I don't want them to I will wiggle my hand and snap. And if I feel like I'm going to cry I will hit my head.
If I hold my body tightly to appear not to be moving it hurts me.
I dont know if i actually have turrettes but there are random times ill twitch and i have moments where I feel a kind of energy of some sort like a burst and sometimes i try to suppress it but sometimes it just makes my whole body twitch in a way also if i supress it it does end up happening later but worse does this sound like turrettes to you
Heyy i suffer with Tourettes and think this is awesome! Ive just set up a channel explaining and making light of the situation!
I can also understand because I have tourettes aswell
When is a tic a tic? Bc sometimes my body does a very small movement what u almost dont see, and i want to know if thats bc im just a person or if i have tics or not
A tic is any sound/movement that's involuntary/disvoluntary. It can be simple or complex, motor or vocal. Many people have experienced tics at some point in there life, which does not mean they have tourettes or another tic disorder. Some people just have a tic or two.
I’m not sure what I have and I haven’t been checked out but I’m confused bc all of a sudden last month I started moving my head a little and they got a little worse. Than yesterday there were weird one were I was punching my chest and “hiccuping” and my head was twitching and it wouldn’t stop and my friend said that it’s anxiety and stress bc I wasn’t born like this.
I’m curious if I have some sort of tic. I’ve realized that I often tilt my head a little, often like cracking my neck but extremely fast and I have just started realizing that it happens quite a lot. Does this qualify as some sort of tic or am I just weird?
That would qualify as a tic, yes. But many people have tics without having a disorder or tourettes. Some people just do tics out of habit or when they're nervous or something.
I have a sniffing tic, eye wink tic and neck stretch tic xx
I’m in middle school and so far my tics haven’t been so bad. There was a time last month where they escalated (corona anxiety probably), but other then that they’re ok. I’m just worried that they’ll get worse as I grow up. I guess they either go away or get worse. Let’s hope it’s not the latter
Í Have 4 tics and it feels weird when you are not doing them
Mine happens off and on randomly , it's so annoying. Omg and I hate it during school.
I have the blinking one it sucks
I’ve had some tics
I think I might have tics but I don't want to assume. I think I might have tics because I randomly hit my head against my shoulder or my head jerks and I hit my head with my hand, also I constantly clear my throat even though there's nothing there.
Those would technically be considered tics but, that doesn't mean you have tourettes or another tic disorder. No one can diagnose you with a neurological disorder over UA-cam.
It may sound weird but I got Tourettes twice when I first got it I was 8 but then it completely disappeared for a few years and came back again twice as bad and honestly a lot of people in my school make jokes about Tourettes because they find it funny and it's also the reason I get out in games where you have to be completely still
I have this weird ‘tic’ where I have to throw something or if I’m writing I scribbled and I can’t help or I clap or slap my legs bit recently I was in a maths exam and I was doing my slap ‘tic’ and then my head jerked to the right and now I can’t stop doing it can anyone help me or help me understand what it might be? Thankyou x
I would suggest going to your doctor. They are very helpful. Good luck.
I started ticking and now they kind of don’t happen which i don’t like cause they kind of relieved my anxiety if that makes sense- they weren’t provisional they were the uncontrollable kind
People in my class are some Times asking why are you doing that all the time and i allways say cuz i Have some tics.
I BROKE IN MY BLINKING BECAUSE BLINKING A LOT IS ONE OF MY TICS!!!!
I can feel when I need to tic
i've been twitching my head a lot without meaning to but i'm not diagnosed with them. do i tell someone about it or is it normal.
That would constitute a tic, yes. But, just because you have a tic doesn't mean it's tourettes or another disorder. I would still get it checked out though, tics are nothing to ignore. They're usually not harmful at all but can be, especially if they are uncharacteristic for you.
i surely will cause now they're getting more agressive, thanks for letting me know
What causes tics
I have tourette's and tried not to blink and by clicking tic kicked in
How can you relieve people with tics or make them feel comfortable when they are ticking?
Kawaii Bunny you could either hug them, if there a close friend that is💯 but mostly, just talk to them like you would if they didn't have tourettes, dont really focus on the tics💯😊
Twitchy Music
leave them alone if there close to you dont make TS an issue ... would you say something to an 8 year old cancer girl cuz her bald head reflected the sun into your eyes...
NO i have bad tourettes. When we are ticking, PLEASE DONT STARE. also don't mention it to them please. it's extremely annoying
Just act normal. My bf has Tourettes and while it's very minor. He tells me not to make a big deal about it. Just go on like you didn't even see it. They wouldn't need comforting or anything bc chances are, they've been dealing with it for a while.
When I tic, its hard when people look at me. So, you should just distract us and not bring the tic up in a conversation.
I keep turning my head and yelling beans bans
It feels like an itchy feeling
I used to have Tics, but somehow I managed to come over it and I don’t feel the same
DickeyRando do u feel better or?
I've had tics my whole life and didn't even realize that's what it was. I haven't been officially diagnosed, so I've just dealt with it. What do you do, is there a treatment for it?
Oh, and I also have OCD
There is no cure for tourettes or tic disorders. Some people do outgrow them though. And some people have been successful with certain therapies, medications, and treatments.
Ok so like i think I might have Tourette’s but like it only happens sometimes and I don’t know anything about Tourette’s and I feel like I’m just one of those people who is like I have everything! But can someone help so I can be certain or something like that?
No one can diagnose you with a neurological disorder over the internet. Go see a doctor or an neurologist or a psychologist.
i have a tic disoder
I have tics and i act like i pass out or a sizger
I have tourettes but it's very mild and for some silly reason I tried to keep my eyes open which made me throw back my head smacking it on my bedframe! 😂
I overcame my turrets by simply forgetting about it and moving on. I did this by if I felt the urge to tick I thought of something else and resisted ticking. And after a year I basicly forgot I even had turrets. If you tell your mind to absolutely what ever you do DON'T TICK then most likely you won't. I know this won't come easy to some people with turrets, but I guess I was lucky and overcame the annoyance.
CraftMineThenBuild you really have no idea do you
Do you ever get in trouble while you had an exam or taken a test like at the DMV or ACT or SAT?
I never took an ACT or SAT due to my extreme test anxiety. I was told by doctors if I wanted to take the ACT I would be able to get a doctors note to have a separate room and longer time.
Haley's Life Through A Lens thanks for replying it was something I was curious about :) love your channel!!!
watching you blink made me want to blink more haha
I have TS and it’s sooooo hard for me to suppress them
Same. How are you doing?
I have Tourettes and that is 100% true
