I remember first my jaw opening wide for a few seconds and then laughing because it was SO bold of the writers and directors to end it that way. Luckily we knew part 2 would be coming out (A freaking YEAR LATER!). So worth it though. Greatest movie experience ever.

One thing I really came to admire at how the Russos directed this movie is how the main character really is Thanos. Even with having every major figure in the MCU here, this really is Thanos' story. It would've been easy to just make him just another generic CGI bad guy, but they made him a real, living character that even a tiny part of you comes to understand. Props to the Russos.
And to Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who wrote the script. (Without a script, all the director can do is improv.). Markus and McFeely are IMO the two unsung heroes of the MCU, writing all three Captain America films, this, Endgame, and the best of the Thor films. ("The Dark World" and yes, I am *deadly* serious about that. Overrated hack David Cohen, aka "Taika Waittiti" is full-on garbage, IMO.)

I can't even imagine what Peter's Spidey-Sense must have felt like in those moments. All of his senses screaming "DEAD. YOU'RE DEAD." Bracing himself for the imminent danger but not knowing where it was coming from, which let him hold on just a bit longer than everyone else.
My emotions still haven't recovered.
Just think about how we all felt coming out of the theater, not knowing the movies to come lol

@@jesusramirezromo2037that is hindsight bias. All we knew is that there must be an Avengers 5. We didn’t know what happened in endgame, not many called time travel heist, we didn’t even know the name of the movie for a long while.

A small thing that even rewatching this even I overlook is how Thanos is just holding each stone in his bare hand before adding them to the gauntlet. Remember they established in Guardians of the Galaxy 1 that no one could just hold one in their hand without either exploding immediately or needing a whole team of people, with one of them being half Celestial, to share it without dying? And Thanos is just holding them like they're tic-tacs he pulled out of his pocket. That's the biggest flex in all of the MCU and no one even notices because he makes it look easy.
It was more about power stone though, I think. Time stone was always in some kind of energy sphere and Clint held Soul stone too, for example
@@depressed_firefly The Soul Stone I always saw as an exception as you had to make a sacrifice to get it. I think it made that person immune to it. Trouble is we'll never know for sure as we never see Clint try to hand it over to someone else.
This was so messed up. Seeing it in theaters knowing you had another year before endgame. The entire theater was silent. And we all trudged out like zombies. Some people crying, everyone confused
I was on the first show late night on premier day, all crowd went silently from theatre after credits while people in queue to watch film was so happy and excited. Sweet summer children.
No, it as awesome. Best ending that could ever have been. No need for Endgame shtshow.
This movie was so well done. In the most awful way possible, of course. I knew several good friends who saw it in theaters and said the only sound that could be heard in the theater after it was all over was muted sobbing. It gutted every fan, and hit even harder in so many ways with Peter's death. Just completely overwhelming.
Now imagine having to wait a year or so to find out what happened next.
After we left the theater, the crowd was silent all the way to the parking lot. Then soon as I turned my car on, Queen's Another One Bites the Dust was playing and I turned it up lmao everyone and I mean everyone almost died laughing hahaha
Music can be very cathartic
Tom Holland improvised the dialogue when he died in Starks arms. Basically his spidersense was telling him something was massively wrong and what he was feeling was the sense of doom coming from those dying. He was the last to die because of his recuperative powers. His body was trying to stave off death but it got overwhelmed. Great acting by Tom Holland to understand the character so well and his relationship to Tony in that context. As to why Strange gave the stone to Thanos remember that he foresaw all the futures. So obviously the one on which they win requires Stark to not die on the planet. That's why he said he had no other choice. It's not that he cares for Stark's life, it's more that in order to beat Thanos, Stark needed to survive this encounter.
And that Scott had to be in the Quantum Realm in order to survive the Snap. But the real hero of 'Endgame' was the rat who set everything going
Dude, this movie WRECKED me 😂 Every single rewatch after has made me love this film more and more. I could talk about this movie forever. SO many characters, SO many storylines, and they all come together PERFECTLY... This is the most epic movie I've ever seen.
if you pay attention you can see the relief on Wanda's face when she turns to dust so she doesnt have to live without Vision

Dr. Strange didn't give up the stone because he cared about Tony. He did it because he knows that's how it has to play out. He said he would let Stark die BEFORE he looked ahead into the future. He now knows that in order to win in the Endgame, Tony HAS to be alive.
Imagine waiting a year between Infinity War and Endgame!

To this day one of the most impossible films to pull off
This film is an achievement unto itself. Unlike any other marvel movie, this deserves to be praised for bringing around 25+ popular characters and putting them all in a cohesive narrative thats unlike anything that came before it.
At least 20 movies filled with characters and storyline nuances were successfully kept intact here yet the main character was the villain that had barely had any screentime previously, yet was written in a way that you could empathise with him and tied him into prior events like the new york invasion.
The movie itself is structured perfectly, from the perspective of Thanos putting him in a heroes journey making him go to different locations to collect the stones from different heroes weve come to know, and pairing different combinations of heroes in an insanely well written way so every character stood out and had an iconic moment to shine.
All in all the scope of this film is beyond anything that has come before it and even more so than Endgame, but they kept the narrative grounded and paced it perfectly. And the ending of the movie is one of the best endings ever. The best superhero/ comic book film of all time after The Dark Knight.
@Chandler Morgan I'd say I'm slightly more impressed with Endgame because they achieved the same thing, but also wrapped up so many arcs in a compelling way, too. To just dust everyone is a bold move, but screwing up an ending is also the easiest thing in the world to do -- it's why so many epic television shows have rough finales that leave audiences disappointed or frustrated or even angry enough to forsake the entire franchise (lookin' at you, Game of Thrones and Dexter). But to close it all off in a meaningful and satisfying way is, conversely, one of the hardest things to do in writing. And it's by the same people, so together IW and Endgame are both amazing achievements in cinema. I highly doubt any other franchise will ever be able to repeat any of this, to this scale and degree.
Same, I gave Infinity war a 10/10, and Endgame 9.5/10 for me

There are over 50 plus Marvel/MCU films,don't know how many DC superhero movies,this is the only film where the superheroes lose.
He was connected to the invasion of New York, he is the one who gave the mine stone (the staff) to Loki, we just didn’t see him till the end credit scene, up until that the Other did the talking for Thanos, but by Infinity War Ronan had killed the Other.
Superb timing. 5 years ago around this time is when Infinity War came out. I was only 18…and now im 23. Time flies by.
Well, the funny thing is Dr Strange and Tony are quite literally the same character archetype being rich and arrogant but Stephan is the mature one 🤣

Five years since we got into the Endgame. I was 21, now 26 years old and I’ll never forget the hype surrounding this movie. A once in a lifetime experience.

Everything together makes one of the two best scenes in the MCU!
The other... well it's the same scene- just one Avengers Movie later
Remember that out of 14 million possibilities there is one and only one sequence of events that eventually leads to victory. So, if Strange says "it was the only way" it´s because any other choice would cause Thanos final victory.
Actually this was a good idea on the part of the writers. Any possible mistake can be solved by answering: "that happened because otherwise they had lost in the end".
Thor had to go for the chest and Quill had to lose it over Gamora, otherwise, even if it seems counterintuitive, Thanos had won in the end.
Also you have to think about what he considers a "win". Stopping Thanos, but at what cost? How many more have to die, and for what? A battle that ends up decimating Earth anyways? Or destroying it? Strange saw a very specific outcome and knew what was needed to get there.
Hulk’s issue is that he is like the playground bully, unstoppable until he ran into Thanos, now Hulk is afraid to come out.

When Thanos said “I like him” it’s because he saw that Quill had the will to kill Gamora even if it was the last thing he wanted to do.

@@ColetteCherry Man back then it was terrible seeing everyone we love get snapped away. And Steve and Tony were the reason that happened.
When I went to this movie I was actually new to this whole MCU stuff. I knew Iron Man (1 to 3), Ant Man and Dr. Strange. Some of the other characters I had heard off. :,D Then I went to this movie and I loved it. I thought "Wow! I really have to watch all of these movies so I know what's going on!". But when they dusted away I thought "Wow, now I don't need to watch them anymore, I guess!"
Of course, I bought all of the movies the next week and binged through them. A week later, I went to Infinity War again and it hit harder. Then, I had to wait A WHOLE YEAR! At least, you can watch Endgame soon.
Strange said there was no other way because he looked at 14 million futures and only 1 they win. He gave the time stone to keep to the 1 possible future. There was no other way.

I've seen other reactions where people understandably lost it when our favorite heroes died at the end here.
Anyway, no worries because you'll appreciate and love this movie over time. It's honestly the best MCU movie so far, and it has SO much replay value :D

It was such an incredible experience. Everyone was in such awe throughout the movie and shock leaving the theater. The silence could be cut with a knife. Truly epic.

@@wildcard04 I remember during Spider-Man’s death, I was freaking out so much, screaming at the screen (which I never do!) something like “NO, NOT HIM, ANYONE BUT HIM!” And still to this day cry watching him begging not to go.. I can’t see myself passing out from that whole movie though. That’s pretty crazy.
For about half of the run time, I kept telling myself they were going to revive Loki, Gamora, etc. At the end when everyone turned to dust, I cried nonstop for about an hour. The most visceral response I've ever had to a movie.
I understand from experience how the ending of this movie made me feel. On the plus side, you don’t have to wait a year to see the next movie.

This is the MCU masterpiece. The story isn't finished without Endgame, but all the same. (They were originally titled Infinity War Part 1 & Infinity War Part 2, but they changed the second one to Avengers: Endgame because although they are two halves of a whole story, tonally they are very different films, which you will notice relatively early on.)

Colette, the Children of Thanos are a group of 6 children that Thanos adopted when he was on his halvening crusade, and trained them to be his super team. Gamora and Nebula were part of this group, but with them gone, they call themselves the Black Order now.

Cull Obsidian = big claw hammer dude
Corvus Glaive = dark elf lookin spear guy
Proxima Midnight = creepy blue horned chick
Also Hulk refuses to come out because he's tired of only being needed when everyone wants him to break stuff and then bottle him up afterwards. He's a full blown personality who wants to have his time with the body too. Also, he has the mentality of a child and he just got beat up by Thanos pretty handily. What does a kid do when they get bullied? They hide, because they're scared.

The Hulk is actually scared of Thanos which is why he doesn't show up in the entire movie after getting his butt kicked in the first 5 minutes.

Everyone in the theater was shocked and crying. Walking out of there, everybody waiting for the next showing was surprised that the people coming out were that upset
Now put yourself in the shoes of us who saw this on first release who didn’t have all the foreknowledge of events/shows/movies and survivors to come, and you’ll know what the ending of this truly felt like…

The army of aliens that attacked Wakanda are called Outriders.
As Groot vanished, “I am Groot” in that moment was him saying “dad…”.
If you look closely, Wanda welcomed death. At that point, she felt she lost everything.
Spider-Man’s vanishing was the most painful to watch. Back in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tony did say that he’d feel responsible if Peter died and didn’t want that piled on his conscience.
The Russo Brothers knew what they were doing. Spider-Man has been a fan favorite for years, and the MCU’s incarnation is a high school teen with a lot of potential. That’s why they made his death slow on purpose.
Just before he vanished, he apologized to his mentor feeling he didn’t do enough to stop Thanos but he gave it his all.
In the comics Peter gets bit when he is 16 so he is suppose to be a high school teen lol
What's even more messed up is Peter's Spidey Sense told him what was happening to him before it happened. That's why he was able to get out so many lines before he disintegrated.
Except the Red Skull didn't really return in any meaningful way. It could have been anyone, or a generic new character. He no longer had anything in common with the Red Skull, other than his appearance. Not his motivation, his Hydra affiliation, his Nazi ideology, etc. All he was, was a receptionist for Vormir. No longer a character at all, just a piece of exposition. He could have been replaced by a sign: "Welcome to Vormir! If you're here to get the Soul Stone, please throw one (1) loved one off the cliff. Thank you for choosing Vormir, for all your Soul Stone needs!"
Notice also how the Black Older all make reference to "black":
Ebony: a black wood
Corvus: Latin for "crow" or "raven" a black bird
Obsidian: a black stone
Midnight: a black time of day.
Strange's job was to safeguard the Time Stone. Then he looked forward into the future. That changed everything. He knows what needs to happen to get to that one future where we win. Dr Strange, a man of science who became a sorcerer, has to take a leap of faith. So, he lets Thanos have the Stone. "It was the only way," he said.

My aunt, uncle, and cousin only saw the Spider-Man movies so they have no idea Peter and others were dead for 5 years.

When I was in theathers watching this, when credits were rolling you could have cut the silence with a knife. It was so deep. People couldn´t believe that it just happened and it would take almost a year before we would see the conclusion

Hulk is stronger than Thanos (especially when Hulk is angry) but Thanos is a warrior and knows how to fight, unlike Hulk who has no more knowledge of fighting than Bruce Banner and likely even less.
Try to imagine what it was like for us knowing that we had to wait an ENTIRE YEAR for the conclusion to this! But man, was it worth it. Probably the greatest movie experience of my life. This is what movies were made for.

Watching people coming out of the previous showing, they were all looked lost, no one said a word. When it ended for my audience, no one moved, most silent (ending of a movie) in a movie theater I have ever experienced. Took awhile for people to get up and exit, nobody could process what just happened, or how things go on from here. We had to wait a year for answers (with some other Marvel movies in between).

Strange said he would sacrifice Stark before the Time Stone before he saw the 14,000,605 alternate futures and found out that if Thanos killed Stark then they would lose their only chance to win and that was why he gave up the Time Stone because it was the only way
