Luke confuses me because he clearly has strong arms and rarely loses a ball carrier after he wraps up, but he doesn’t use his legs enough to add power to his tackles; I don’t know if it’s because he tackles too high or because he doesn’t launch into opponents or maybe he just plays too polite, but I feel like he lacks the killer instinct that may be found in “dirty” players that can knock a ball carrier backwards. I’ve been thinking that he’d be less injury prone if he had more power and purpose behind his movements. He’s clearly got great intelligence and vision because he almost always shoots the right gap or reads qb’s to make interceptions, and he even sheds blockers with great finesse, but I’d love to see him play a little more angry. Make a hit or get hit. Still do doubt about his class though, and still my favorite player.
No I agree, I like that he wraps up. I just think adding more leg drive will help him. Less YAC for the ball-carrier, and Luke will be able to lead him into the ground rather than be dragged for a couple.
Luke's gotta be careful with concussions at this point in his career. Not saying that is the reason but him tackling higher to prevent his head from getting smashed but it does make sense for him to try and preserve his career longer.
That is what I think, maybe he wants to minimize the concussion risk by taking better angles and not throwing himself to the ball carrier. However, he is so rarely out of position that he doesn't need to take that chance
