    Recently we ran a pole on the channel asking which #F1engine you thought was the best. Well over 22,000 of you voted and a huge 48% percent of you said you loved the #V10 the most. So we started to ask ourselves, what would happen if the current cars were allowed to use #V10engine? Just as a warning, this is going to get a little ridiculous.

    How on earth did the author come up with these assumptions:-)? The V10 engine was tiny (no turbo, no battery, no nothing) at 95kg in 2005 and the cars were over 1m shorter in total length. Fuel consumption was at roughly 180l per race. I guess a modern car using a V10 would also get to approx. 800kg with a completely different carbon foot print.

    The v10 engine was a good 100 lbs lighter than current set ups.... And the new cars are considerably bigger overall.
    And as far as I have seen the new cars still consume more fuel even being smaller and with hybrid spec.
    Good concept for a video but i just cant get behind your assumptions.

  • @QwoaX
    @QwoaX Рік тому +16

    An engine developed around the 1998 ruleset 30 years later could be smaller, lighter, more powerful, more reliable and more efficient.
    Plus, you neither removed the weight of the hybrid system from the equasion nor considered the fuel saving from it. Also, without refueling, they would run a more efficient engine mode in the race to not use up as much fuel as they did back then (also increase reliability, assuming this part of the regulation stays up-to-date) and therefore need a smaller fuel tank.
    Worst case is the cars need 150kg of fuel for a race distance but the engines are at least 100kg lighter (without hybrid) or 20kg heavier and use max. 120kg of fuel with hybrid.

    I'm sorry but you made too many mistakes. Last v10 raced in 06 in redbull, next generation was 2.4 v8 not 2.8 v8, old v10 were well bellow 100kg today's engines with the hybrid systems are approaching 200kg that extra fuel is in different form of weight so today's cars are unnecessarily heavy for old v10. Also effectiveness of the engines made huge progress so assuming the development wasn't frozen in 05 today's v10 would need much less fuel to achieve same power. Sidepods were wider due to cooling not engine size and even though I agree that v10s would need more cooling it wouldn't be significant so the huge side pods wouldn't be an issue in my opinion.

    • @350gtboi
      @350gtboi 2 роки тому +2

      I agree. But I believe Cooling is more of a factor now with air to air or to water intercoolers in addition to engine cooling . He compared the whole weight of the V10 but forgot to include the weight of the complete PU yet he compared power rating of the ICE vs the complete power of the Power unit in today’s cars.

    • @lukaswildner8040
      @lukaswildner8040 2 роки тому +2

      @@350gtboi I don't think that today's engines require more cooling simply because they're much more efficient, that lost energy with N/A engines was mostly in form of heat therefore larger radiators had to disapate that energy. Today's engines cooling is running in much higher temperatures under much higher pressure so they require smaller radiators. In those 17 years engine cooling made huge progress but yes additional radiator in form of intercooler had to be added.

  • @juzoli
    @juzoli Рік тому +6

    Why would a V10 need so much more fuel? Fuel consumption is the function of power output, not engine size. Small engine is only fuel efficient if it is running at fractional power, like a regular car. F1 engine runs at peak power all the time.
    Maybe it is not as efficient, but it means we need 10% more fuel, not 100% more. That’s ridiculous.

  • @jamesmotoring5663

    The current V6 hybrid is the heaviest engine in history. Because of the complex and heavy hybrid system.
    The V8 engine was a mere 95KG. While the V10 is likely to be under 120KG.
    Even with a bigger fuel tank. The car will be much faster under low fuel.
    Not to mention they don’t need so much cooling because it is NA. Turbo engine always demand bigger radiators. So the V10 could easily have a much smaller side pods.

    Man your maths hurt me sorry. Top speed is nothing to do with how much you weigh. It only affects how fast you can reach that top speed. Top speed is mainly dictated by your aerodynamic drag and power. So your logic of weighing %12 more means going %12 slower is wrong. But that means if you can reach 200kph in 5 seconds with 900kg, you would reach that in more than 5 seconds with 1000kg with the same engine power. Hope I helped with future video pub maths :)

    Sound like turbo hybrid era boy here
    The v10 engine doesnt need all the hybrid power to make it fast, so you can get rid of it to get less weight. And the think the v10 engine need from the current f1 car is the slick tire, drs and the aero. Other than that you can keep it
    Oh yeah the current v6 engine can even go over 300 kph without the hybrid power, while the v10 can reach 360 kph without drs without slipstream

    This video is full of assumptions.
    The old V10 was a lighter engine, the whole car was smaller because with the NA V10 we did not need turbos, bigger engine cooler, or intercoolers.
    We have batteries now, KERS devices that incurs even more weight, the whole car is soooo much bigger now and has not gone faster.
    With all this extra weight, now we need bigger tyres, that now need bigger wheels, we have unsprung mass problem increasing now. We needed all of this areo in the modern day, all to overcome mass, we have lost our way IMO from lightweight F1 cars and chasing our tails. Number 1 thing in all racing is mass, less mass the better and no other mod can overcome this.
    With older V10's with the modern tyre, they would smash current F1's, Ferrari has just released data on this. Yes fuel efficiency is much better now than ever, but...........
