Freddie and Brain were simpatico in their ability to be one with the music, and together in the music. Both are GREAT! But there will never be another Freddie. He was too unique and special.
One of the best versions of this song imo…both are perfect. This song held a long history for them. The studio cut is very different, orchestral. They reworked it for the stage & this is what it became. Brian & Freddie were a force.
There was a film crew filming this concert using cinema quality techniques. This way of filming was going to rival IMAX. The band got very upset because security and the film crew told everyone to stay in their seats and not sing. Freddie was upset this whole concert. After the first verse you hear him say “they don’t know it” because a lot of people weren’t singing. You hear Brian try to console him by saying “that’s alright”. This version of this song isn’t the best . Listen to this live at Wembley 1986. Also listen to the Rock in Rio version where the audience of 300,000 people who speak Portuguese sing this song to Freddie and Brian in perfect English. Only 5% of the population knew English. They were overcome with emotion because they were nervous that the audience wouldn’t understand what they were singing. You will see Freddie rest his chin on Brian’s mic to gather himself.
