Children of Bodom did 3 albums and around 20 sessions at Astia-studio with platinum-selling producer/engineer Anssi Kippo.

Anssi Kippo worked with Janne Wirman at Astia-studio from 1997 to 2003 and mixed FOH sound on Children of Bodom live shows from 1997 until 2002 including 2001 European tour, 2001 Japan tour, 2001 South American tour along with numerous shows and mini tours in Finland and all over Europe.

Really looking forward to watching this. The guys sound like they are in a much better place to reflect back on the band. After 10 albums with endless tours it must be an odd feeling to get a long break and then reflect back on everything you've achieved. @@Astiastudioitse ostin aikoinaan sen eka COB "Something Wild" CD:n siitä ekasta painoksesta, heti kun se ilmestyi, jossa on se vihreä CoB logo, eikä sitä ns "oikeaa" logoa.
Joku vielä epäili ettei sillä levyllä ole kuin tunnearvoa. Hmmm.... eikös niitä tehty joku 5000 kpl sillä logolla? Tai ainakin eka painos oli muutama tuhat kpl. Sit sillä "oikealla" CoB logolla niitä on käsittääkseni tehty ja myyty... montako sataa tuhatta kappaletta??!!
Vai oonko nyt hirveen väärässä?
Mut koko höpötyksen pointti oli että ostin CoB levyn heti kun se ilmestyi, siitä on niin kauan etten muista mistä tiesin edes asiasta, ja että levy on ostamisen arvoinen.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for posting these interviews with Janne and Jaska. The truth is I hadn't listened to Children of Bodom since Alexi's passing, because it was simply too painful. Thanks to these interviews, I went back to the first three albums and completely got back into it. They were such a legendary band with absolutely amazing music. Knowing now the time and effort that went into them, makes me appreciate them even more. Kiitos!

Thank you so much for these incredible deep dives into COB history! Janne spoke about in the beginning before social media, bands were very mysterious. Back then COB was the most mysterious band for me in the States. It was hard to find places to buy physical CD's and badically impossible to find info on the band outside of the CD booklet. This interview shed some light on a lot of the things i always wanted to know about 20 years ago. Thanks you for these great interviews!

Really enjoyed this interview and learnt some Finnish as well. COB has been a huge part of my life and always will be even if I get old. Janne and Alexi taught me to play keyboards and its because of them that I do Bodom Covers and have had a few bands of my own.

Thank you very much, it was such a great great interview, I could watch those COB memories endlessly.
Red light in my eyes 2 is one my favorite COB song probably because of the messy rhythm, like the transition between the Mozart Requiem part and the chorus, Rhythmically it sounds so messy, yet it gives SO MUCH raw energy. Something Wild will always have a special place in my heart because of this flavor of youth.
Do you remember what Jackson Alexi's used the most on the HCDR session ? Was it the Wildchild one, or was he still using the Stone one ?
Did you used to record the performances when you were touring with the band ?
Hope you'll catch Alexander and Henkka too !

Thank you very much. 🙏 You are completely right: what SW lacks in rhythmic accuracy it definitely makes up in raw energy.
Unfortunately I cannot recall which guitars exactly Alexi used on HCDR. I bumped into the info notes from that session so maybe there's info about the guitars. Both Alexi and Alexander had names for their guitars. I think one of Alexi's Jackson was called Stryper because of the colors. Alexander might have had a guitar called Leila. 🤔
I recorded their early performances on cassette. I should have at least a few of them in the storage. 👍

this was so epic, for so many reasons. i never knew about a lot of this stuff - especially the hocus pocus video. Growing up in Socal, 1997-1999 OC and LA were consumed by nu-metal and we had just flamed out on punk and ska. meanwhile these guys are literal virtuosos on the other side of the world. I heard my first Bodom song in 2004. the entire sound was foreign to me, and i grew up on GnR and Metallica. By 2009 Alexi's guitar playing had consumed me

I love how much respect Janne seems to have for Alexi. There might have been some bad blood between the two towards the end, but it seems clear that he lost a very good friend and colleague. And yeah, they were an unbeatable pair, really.

Ihana oli nähdä Janne taas soittamassa parin vuoden tauon jälkeen, ja nauttivan siitä. bodom loppu ja allu kuoli fiilis oli, että ei pysty edes katsoo koskettimiaan! Huikeet warmenin keikat oli uuden albumin jälkeen.
When he talks about the Jackson having tuning problem he means the intonation was not adjusted properly. Simple but crucial adjustment.
Exactly. And we did know how to adjust the intonation, but something wasn't right with his guitars. 🤷♂
@@Astiastudio What a bummer, these were not cheap guitars. I dont know how he could've afforded these as a teenager. Nothing feels like finding the right tool. Very cool story about Jens keyboard patch also!

Aivan huippuhaastattelu tämäkin. Tuo että jätkät on hieronut noita levyjen yksityiskohtia ja kuitenkin vetänyt pitkiä pätkiä purkkiin on inspiroivaa ja pitäs nykyäänkin käyttää levynteossa kun saa noin hyvää aikaan sillä tavoin. Bodomin materiaali on kyllä todella hyvää ja ei liene huonoa biisiä tehneen. Erityismaininta vielä siitä että videon haastattelija on aivan huikee ja tekee kyllä iha mielettömän hyvää duunia. Janne myös tosi nerokas kaveri. Tämä innostuneisuus tarttuu ja on esikuva monelle

Mielestäni yksi hienoimpia hetkiä jutustelutuokiossamme on se, kun Janne kertoo, että on useissa haastatteluissa kertonut olevansa eniten ylpeä Hatebreederin koskettimista, jotka on oikeasti soitettu magneettinauhalle. Ehkä sellainen aito tekotapa välittyy kuulijalle ja on osana levyltä välittyvää vaarantunnetta. 😊

@@DaniTheDead Unis eli unisono tarkoitaa sitä, että esimerkiksi Bodomien kohdalla Alexi ja Janne soittavat yhtä aikaa täysin samalla tavalla nopea melodiaa. Tällainen kohta on esimerkiksi Warheartissa toisen kertosäkeen jälkeen.
Harmonia-osiolla taas tarkoitamme esimerkiksi Silent Night Bodom Night -kappaleen ensimmäisen kertosäkeen jälkeistä pysäytyskohtaa, missä Alexi ja Janne eivät soita nopeaa kohtaa uniksessa vaan terssiharmoniassa. 👍

Ukkini mahdollisti mm. nykyisen studiolokaation rahoituksen hankkimisen, joten ilman häntä ei olisi Astia-studiota eikä esimerkiksi Bodomien alkupään levyjä siinä muodossa, kuin ne nyt tunnemme. 🙏

Something that I'd love to see explored in the interviews with the Bodom crew: I always had this feeling that their lyrics, although aggressive and misanthropic, never reflected who the Bodom guys really were. I suspect that they created lyrics that were "the expected" content for an extreme metal band, but in reality were funny, upbeat people. Or not? How much of the lyrics were actually reflection of a darker side, a manifestation of anxieties, frustrations and general anger? I always thought of them as a cathartic band, not interested in actually exploring darker subjects or preaching hatred for real in any way.
Thank you very much for the comment. 🙏 I can only speak about the albums 1, 2 and 4. Guys were and still are very funny. Yet, Alexi channeled a lot of anxiety and frustration to his music and lyrics. In mid 2000's I recall him saying in an interview how life had been so good that he hadn't been able to write any lyrics. I was blown away by how many reached out to them and said how COB's music had helped them through rough times.

You know, I had this feeling that from a certain period on, especially in the 4th album, with titles like "Bodom Beach Terror", I felt that yeah, if someone in the band was going through a bad period in life and struggling with anxiety or depression, that might have gone away by now, good for them! I know Finland is a very non-religious country, but I'm a Christian myself and I've always been a fan of the band, and I always wished nothing but the best for the Bodom Family. I remember buying the Tokyo Warhearts CD and staring at the pictures inside, the dudes just chilling at the pool, and thinking "they just seem like a fun bunch really". I used to listen to them so much when I was younger that actually my very nickname was "Bodom" in some circles haha! Fun times. Anyway, always wishing the best for all of them and now for you too, Anssi, who I didn't know before (and you look a lot like me actually, in appearence, that's funny too).
