...came for the "is that weird Al in the thumbnail?" and stayed for the, well, everything.
Same here

Yep!
Yeah buddy!
also clicked because of weird al 😅
Sometimes the algorithm will throw something in your feed that you wouldn't have searched for but would definitely appreciate-this is one of those times.
Normally it waits 4-6 years! Today it was generous and only waited 2 weeks to shoe me this!
The algorithm has been pushing this on me for the past week and I finally clicked on it.
@@paperip1996 sometimes the algorithm is merciful!
@@paperip1996Same
Why did it wait 4 weeks to show me this?
Watching Weird Al playing an accordion while in someone's garage band on a Friday night, playing a kick-ass song , was not on my bingo card. Great job.
Need a new bingo card here also!
Yeah I wouldn’t have been able to generate this scenario in my head, but I’m also incredibly unsurprised that he does this sort of thing.
I love the story that Billy Joel tells about the genesis of this song. It originally started out as THREE separate songs, but he couldn't finish any of them. Then one day, he was having dinner at an outdoor cafe, wrestling with the lyrics, when his waiter asked him, "Bottle of red? Bottle of white?" And the thunderbolt HIT! Joel stared at the waiter and shouted, "THANK YOU!" And the song started to fall into place.
I too love this story, could have easily been my parents life story.
Joel said, "both, and a bottle of rose, too!" or so the rumor went at the time. Producer Phil Ramon stitched it all together.
He also said his inspiration was how the Beatles came up with it mashing up their song clips on a few of Abbey Road's songs
@@klinkster1955 Yep...the medley on side two of "Abbey Road".
He's also said he went back to the restaurant after _The Stranger_ came out, and the waiter recognized him and yelled "Hey! You're-a that-a guy!"
It took Weird AL over 40 years to get into a garage band.
His dream has finally come true!!!!
And they still took the accordion out of 99% the mix. Ooof
Not if the band name sucks
He would love this joke.
@@rztrickyyou’re so upset over the band name, lmao.
Once you defeat a drug lord it's all downhill
Everybody’s talkin’ ‘bout the Dad Band, funny but it’s still Billy Joel to me
omg i love harry nilsson
Sir, nailed it! 👏
Well played, sir!
@@calderrahn318that’s actually a reference to another Joel song.
@@Tolstoy111 Omg, I love Billy Idoel
When Weird Al is guest starring in your music video and he doesn't steal the show you're doin' pretty good.
Wonder if he was the director on the vid...
Thankfully, Weird Al isn't the type to come in and just steal the show unless that's the literal reason you bring him in. I love that he sat in the chair and played away letting the band be up front.
Helps to have Ken Marino at the helm
Ken Marino's voice holy moly
THAT'S who that is. It's my first time here and I kept thinking he looked familiar. There's another reason to have subscribed!
Yeah, you're not kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously! Who would have thought the "I Want to Dip My Balls In it!" guy be in a garage band with another The State actor and Weird Al singing Billy Joel thirty years later?!
@@pennysticks A lot can be done in post production. This clearly was all faked over a produced track.
@pennysticks Who's got a plate of something for me?
What is it???
I heard Weird Al say in an interview that he tried to join his friends' bands when he was a kid and no one would let him because he plays the accordion.
But now, 50 years later, he found a band that wants him!!!!
But their band name sucks
m.ua-cam.com/video/g-mQcPsPAjc/v-deo.html
I'm still wondering, though, why I got the song from the ALgorithm... and not from AL.
@@rztricky that’s the point! It’s a joke. My honey is in a band called the antidepressants. It’s just fun.
@@rztricky This is the most accurate band name I've ever heard.
I love it!!
If you're gonna cover Billy Joel, your keyboardist has gotta be a hero. Dude stepped up.
Yeah, everybody here just killed it. Great performance.
While the band name failed him by stepping in a 3 day old Great Dane bagel with cream cheese experiment
That's how I feel about the sax in this song! That younger-than-middle-aged dude rocked
I concur 100%
@@calebwest6324yup. That sax solo was tight!
My new three-step plan:
1) Expand my garage.
2) Make some musician friends.
3) Invite Al over to jam with us!
Aces and kudos to everyone involved with this video!
4) pitch him 30 years of parody song ideas.
@@oaf-77I thought I read (or heard?) in an interview that he doesn’t take ideas so as not to get embroiled in “I thought of it first he stole my idea from me” situations. The only exception was apparently Madonna asking him when he was going to parody her.
But I could be wrong. Maybe it was only in a dream. As real as it could seem. No wait not going there! And neither is my clone (think I’m a clone now)
I'll bring the beer!
Ok, I just witnessed a “middle aged dad band” with Weird Al do an epic Billy Joel cover. I think I’ve officially reached the end of the internet. Peace out all! 😀
One of Archimedes' fundamental principles states that "Weird Al makes everything he's in, 10-fold better."
Not if the band name sucks
In a cutthroat business full of people competing to be seen as serious professionals, the man made a very long, highly-successful career based mostly on making up goofy lyrics to other people's pop songs
... playing an accordion.
More power to him, man.
P.S. I keep telling my wife that his best songs are the originals. 😀
Yeah, but why did I hear about this from the UA-cam algorithm, and not from Al.
That's just science.
You went old skool n Archimedes? pure gold. I would have foolishly gone with Newton and Gravity, or something. Great comment!
I came for “Weird Al”, and I got “Just Al”.
ZERO complaints. 🎶😎👍
"Is that Weird Al? IS THAT KEN MARINO?? DAVID WAIN??????"
I had no idea David Wain even played drums but I'm here for it
Not sure why the algorithm sent me here but am very glad it did. Fantastic job, y'all.
I’ve been getting Weird Al in my algorithm. (Triumph’s Special, After Midnight) So pretty that’s why I got recommended it
The same for me. Thank you algor...alroritth, algorrr......electronic picky thingy!
It wasn’t the algorithm. It was the Weird Algorithm.
@@CarysCantDance LOL
Damn. I initially clicked for Weird Al but everybody killed it. Especially the pianist! He was smokin!
He was
But the band name sucks
Yup, came for the Weird Al, stayed for the great music

One of my all time favourite piano parts 2:50. Nailed it.
Spurney absolutely rocks. And he’s a damned nice guy!
Weird Al's story of success will never be topped by anyone ever again. The guy became a 40-year pop star by playing the accordion of parodies of actual hits. The guy should be in the rock n roll Hall of Fame.
He should!
He’s not?!?
This all of this!!! 👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼
Have you ever seen him and his band live? Amazing.
@kofd04 I can't speak for the original commenter, but me personally I have seen him and his band 4x live
Weird Al just perfectly happy chillin' in the corner playing with these guys....doesn't try to take center stage, does his part like a professional. This world doesn't deserve Weird Al....but I'm sure glad we got him! And that piano player was on fire!
Wierd Al is content to sit humbly at the back. He knows these guys are great and lets them shine.
This is probably the best cover of this song ever. They did Billy Joel proud.
I clicked on this expecting a lame joke. Instead I have just enjoyed a perfect cover of a song which sits high in the top 20 list of songs I have played the most in the last several years.
As did I, but this deserves my sub and a like. Great stuff.
Not if the band name sucks
100%
@@rztricky That's not their name, it's their product description! 😆
@@rztricky Nobody cared the first 10 times you typed that. Get a life.
The less-famous singer with Billy Joel's voice! Reading the comments and all I can say is "Weird Al is the gateway drug, but this band is what hooks you!"
Ken's more famous for comedy
Al is definitely what pulled me in, and now i have another group to follow
Yes the only way you know it isn’t Billy is because he sings “Brenda”not “Brender”
HOLY SHIT. LOL Ken Marino *NAILED* that vocal and the band is *insane*. Absolutely INCREDIBLE cover.
I thought he was lip syncing at first.
Holy cow, thought it was a big joke...turns out, it's the definitive cover of Billy Joel's Magnum Opus.
This is honestly the best cover song I’ve ever heard.
How you know Al is truly great is that he was perfectly happy to sit in the back and let everyone else be the star. He lent his name and his accordion but didn't even try for the spotlight.
As a lifelong Billy Joel fan I have to say...this was amazing. Al chilling in the corner is just icing on the cake
Weird Al is a national treasure and must be protected at all cost
Yet another reminder that almost everyone that you see on your TV or movie screen in non-reality roles was a theater kid in HS and a lot of them have surprisingly good singing voices. But this was another level up from that. I would pay to hear Ken Marino sing.
ua-cam.com/video/8s6x3bSr3Ns/v-deo.html live
Absolutely. He’s phenomenal and he so often plays a doofus so it hits even harder!
Honestly, the violinist just vibing there in the background is fantastic.
Allie Stamler!
Every once in a while, the algorithm throws me a gem.
Love it when the algorithm picks a stone cold winner.
Old Al Yankovic just gets to chill in the back and noodle on his accordion, and I'm all for it.
I think Weird is a better nickname
@@prophetzarquon1922 he wasn’t being particularly weird in this one, which was ok.
@@johndoe6032 I'm just saying, I wouldn't choose "Old" as a prefix if "Weird" was on the table. (Just ask anyone who knows me.)
I clicked the video before reading the “feat Weird Al” in the video title so when he randomly showed up partway through I was like wtf
Came for the cover of “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” stayed for Weird Al and everything else.
I like that Al just wants to sit in and jam.
He hasn't always: ua-cam.com/video/8s6x3bSr3Ns/v-deo.html
With a side of stand up and ham.
I saw Weird Al, I clicked. I watched the video, I subscribed. No idea who anyone else is but I'm about to find out
David Wain on Drums and Ken Marino singing. Check out the old comedy troupe “The State” and the movie “Wet Hot American Summer”.
Algo bumps this one onto my radar, I sees Weird Al, I clicks, and then I says, "Hey, I'm a middle-aged dad! I like bands! I should subscribe!" So I does.
I love how they acted like this was just a pick-up song. Like, "hey, do you know this one?" They ABSOLUTELY worked their asses off on this one, people!
Agreed, very smooth
Came for Weird Al, stayed for the music!!
there's something so "music for musics sake" about this, I love it.
Never knew Ken could sing like that. Outstanding.
Came here to say this ... "Who woulda thunk Ken Marino had pipes?"
Why haven't I heard him sing before?
I think he's the old school Triple Threat. A lot of The State guys were.
It sounds super processed, so maybe he can't. Miming along like this is the actual performance points that direction too.
@@dewitt.powersOr maybe he didn’t wanna blow out his voice singing this song several times while making the video.
I had no idea Ken Marino was such a talented singer. I’m not really a Billy Joel fan but I respect him as a musician and songwriter. These guys friggin killed it. Excellent job
I’m a simple man, I see Weird Al, and I click the thumbnail.
Ken absolutely crushed this. 🤘
Dude has a beautiful voice. Who knew?
I am shocked.
@@michaelhall5429 NYU must have a half decent arts/theatre department.
@@Remmersonic training can help hit the notes but ken is doing more than that. Voice of a sexy angel.
West Islip's own Ken Marino doing Long Island proud.
That little touch of accordion nicely fits the image of sitting in an old Italian bistro and coming back to the present after telling your various personal anecdotes.
Both Ken Marino and Weird Al in the thumbnail? Absolutely
WOW! Drawn by Weird Al, hooked by the band.
Saw weird Al on the thumbnail and thought this was going to be some kind of a goofy cover. Holy crap. That guy can sing. The piano player was unbelievable. The whole band sounds incredible.
Came for the Billy Joel cover, stayed to hear Al on the accordion solo. Awesome job guys. And using the trumpet with a mute on it instead of a sax was a great choice.
That’s the great Jordan Katz
It is beyond bizarre to me, that Weird Al does not have a signature line of accordions, from his favorite brand
Well... 2 things:
1. this is clearly the best version of this song (sorry, billy)
2. this wins the internet on whatever day you find this.
Yep. Although I was listening to a playlist of The Kiffness before this. It’s hard to beat jamming with singing cats. I’ll put it on par, though!
Jon Spurney is a beast on those keys... kudos to all concerned, that's an amazing piece of work!
I had no idea Ken Marino could sing or that David Wain played drums, nevermind this well. This just blew my mind
Everyone's here for Weird Al, as they should be, but I saw David Wain in the thumbnail and *thats* what got me.
That violinist is not only an amazing musician, but it's really fun watching her put so much passion into her playing.
I saw an old SNL skit with Steve Martin. His character was giving datine advise. He said to impress your date order wine. When the waiter asked if he wanted a red or white, the character said "Oh you have colors? I'll take a beige wine". This has lived rent free in my memories for decades 🤣😂
I clicked because I saw Ken Marino and David Wain in a thumbnail with Weird Al... this is not what I expected and it's SOOOOOO much better!
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant is an amazing song, and now that Weird Al is on a cover of it, my life is complete
This is exactly the sort of thing we all could use in our lives.
Thank you, Oh Great Algorithm Gods, for bringing me to this wonderful place!
That piano run [chef's kiss]
It’s funny how this is a great cover and the one thing everyone will remember is Weird Al just jamming.
I loved Al mugging right before the big piano break. "No surely he's not going to attempt?...god speed brave pianist". Even Billy has to shake his hands out after that part.
I came for Weird Al, but stayed for Ken Marino and David Wain... The State is 4 life....
I've been a fan of Ken Marino since the first time I saw him in The State. I thought then, wow this guy could be huge. Well, not quite huge but he's been going strong now for 30+ years. Never dreamed that he'd have that good of a singing voice. The pianist absolutely slayed. And Weird Al...wow. Great job here by everyone!
The pianist and drummer nailed it on the fast part. And Weird Al bringing it back down was fantastic. What a great rendition of my favorite Billy Joel song!
I believe that's David Wain (The State, 90s) on drums.
I have been a life long fan of David’s films and ANYTIME Ken is in a film or television series I know it’s gonna be a good time . This was amazing
Clicked on this just ‘cause I like the song. Had it in the background, looked up and thought “Is that Ken Marino???” Then “Hey! That’s David Wain! And Al Yancovic!” What a lovely surprise, and an awesome sound…🏆

There's some long-haired guy sitting in the corner playing an accordion. I think he might be famous.
I think that guy goes by the name “Strange Albert”… or something to that effect
That's pretty weird, huh?
Yes, Weird Al Yankovic.
I think it's abnormal Alvin? @@Pleaselaughseriously
Really? Once I saw him standing in the express lane with 12 items or less at the checkout counter at my local grocery store. I had no idea.
Any band that can do justice to this tune has my deep respect.
It's good to see Al just playing music and smiling. This whole shebang is wicked cool.
I'm a big Billy Joel fan (Weird Al too). This was a great cover.
Thank you
The overall quality of this cover is through the roof! Thanks, algorithm, for delivering some high quality goodness to my ears!
Had a really bad day today... Somehow, this showed up, and brought smiles, and happy tears... Sounded fantastic! Definitely would hang out and jam with you all, any day
I click on anything that has cast members from MTVs The State , and save anything with Weird Al . Oh happy day
No clarinet? No problem! The muted trumpet is on fire!
The entire band is amazing, but I haven’t seen any recognition for the cellist/ back up singer yet! She’s truly gifted vocally and instrumentally. This might be one of the top 3 Billy Joel covers ever.
As with many others, I have no idea why the algorithm suggested this, but holy shit this is an amazing cover. Ken Marino absolutely nailed the vocals! And of course Weird Al shredded it!
Ken Marino finally putting that voice to good use! All the musicians chewing the scenery by being amazing and Weird Al just hanging out and playing the accordion like there's no tomorrow. This is going to blow up obviously. Please let the next cover be Billy Joel's very underrated She's right on time. You guys are awesome!
I hope it does blow up! Just so phenomenal and I'm really glad the algorithm spit me out here
Sweet Teddy P. (bassist) is really helping stitch it all together
This is truly fantastic. Billy himself would be proud of this! I too came here because of the Wierd Al thumbnail....
Rock On Kids!
Came for Weird Al, stayed for CJ from Brooklyn 99 singing REALLY GOOD billy joel
I didnt need more reasons to love these people but here we are anyway.
A faithful rendition of one of my all-time favorite songs. And with Weird Al, to boot. It just doesn't get much better.
Marino can actually pull it off!!!! And Wain is making Liberty proud on the drums. Good cover!
Brilliant! Songs of my childhood done by people my own age! 😎Σ
All the guys knocked it out of the park with this cover, but only Weird Al could make the accordion cool. 🪗 Rock on, dudes!
Love how AL is tucked away in the corner
I woke up to this, half groggy not knowing this was a jam band. And minute by minute it got progressively better and more interesting. And then weird al! Wow! Love it
Wow, I'm honestly moved. Top notch musicians and they were all just into it. Weird Al just being his awesome self. That gal dancing with the violin just dialed up the nostalgia to an eleven. I'm going in for another listen.
Billy Joel... and...and... Weird Al?? Am I in Heaven?
Members from The State, a trumpet with a straight mute, and Weird Al… but not enough kittens. More cats, please😉
If they added cars it would have broken the internet
Big ups to the video and audio folks on this. The musicians are incredible, yes, but the A/V is selling it.
The reason why I love the joy of music. Went from, "Is that the weird one", to Holy shit best jam-yacht-rock-amalgam group of super talented (super) artists who play with glee. Kudos.
I would say this was a dream come true, but I never had any dreams this good.
This was a nice surprise. Like so many people, I saw Al and just had to see him. I'm sure glad that I did watch this ,I hate to miss out on the good stuff.
All things considered, they NEEDED Weird Al. Who else would play the accordian solo at the end?
This band rocks. Weird Al is the cream on the cake for this one tho' ❤
