I got one this year and absolutely love this mixer. The only thing that was holding me back was that perhaps it was overkill over a simpler 4-channel for my needs. But I’ve started mixing way more creatively with the filters and 4-band EQ. DVS works flawlessly on VDJ-and I even did a DVS-only gig on my iPhone with djay. And it sounds massively superior to my previous pioneer to an extent I wasn’t expecting as the pioneer was hardly ‘bad’-bass that’s thick but with detail and not flubby, a real crispness to the highs which I like over dark-sounding gear. So I feel like I’m getting the most out of it.
Great review! Love the LFO on the 92, complete control with how fast or slow you can tap can be a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. The up fader curve control is a massive plus and it looks like the 92 will be parked as a backup mixer now.
I owned the 92R (Rotary) since it came about until last year. Switched to a Rane 2015 Rotary. If they come out with a Rotary version I will definitely purchase it.

I always wanted a rotary mixer for the fun of it, but still desire a crossfader. I saw his previous video on the isolators whereby he showed the Bozure ISO-201. I thought this would be a perfect solution to bridge the gap between the rotary and crossfader mixer worlds. So I ordered two 201s to make a frankenrotary mixer that gives me the best of both worlds. I wanted to be able to mix between tracks with the big knobs on the 201s simultaneously or just mix normally with the Xone 96. I upgraded from a Xone 92 to a Xone 96 and sold the 92. Well if you think you can use two 201s to simultaneously mix between tracks on a Xone 96 you cannot do it utilizing the FX/RTN Channels. The problem is the Send 2 channel does not have a prefader option like Send 1. Therefore if you put an isolator on Send 2 it will not do any good because the Xone 96 eqs will still be audible. Hi. Thanks for a great review. Techno DJ Joel Mull really convinced me into switching to Allen & Heath. My question is, if it would get too warm, if I keep it in a flight case while playing? Would an 18 mm gap on the sides of the mixer be enough for the ventilation, or would I need to take it completely out of the case while playing?
Think I'm going to grab this mixer. I currently own the xone: DB4 and its a good mixer but it lacks send/return connections that are vital to the way I play with my effects processor(RMX-1000). I have to tweak it around in order for me to use the RMX-1000 at the cost of messing around with some recording settings on the DB4, which in turn do not allow me to record my live sets. I was originally going to get the PX5, but it only had 1 send/return connection rather than two. What more can a DJ ask for? More effects available makes a happy DJ. =)
I want to make my X fader a little sharper, you mentioned in the video that its accessible from the "front panel", is what you mean where the second headphones "2" connect? The screw next to it? Or do I need to remove the whole top are where the knobs & fades are? Please help.
The full kill on the lows are a big W. I thought I wouldnt really like this but f me. I think this is the final mixer for me. Honestly everything about it screams quality. It feels like a real mixer. I almost bought a model 1. But this is so much like the classic 92, And the 4 band eq is so damn nice for long blends. Something I like to make use of.
I've been djing with my 92 for about 10 years, bought the Rane 2015 just a couple of months ago but I'm starting to regret it. I just can't get used to the rotaries even though I've given it some real effort.Even more I miss the cue routing from the Xone, not to mention that every professional mixer today should have a pre EQ option for the cue, which for me is a bigger deal breaker than I thought - I just had to test drive another mixer to come to that realization. And since there is an EQ on the booth you could in effect use that as an Isolator if you have the possibility to use that as your main output (the only thing missing compared to the Rane 2015 in this case is the ability to adjust the crossover). I might just sell the Rane 2015 and get this one instead. The Xone 92 will definitely stand the test of time for many more years to come and might very well go down in history as the most versatile dj mixer ever made. I'm really happy A&H didn't deviate too much from the original 92. Xone 92 MK2 would have been a perfectly reasonable name for this fine mixer.
This is nit-picky, but I dunno, man. I had a 92 as my personal mixer for about 11 years and have had my 96 for a couple weeks. There are enough differences between the two to justify the new name. Not only the number of differences, but how much nicer/better some things are. I can't believe I like it as much as I do, it's a weapon of a mixer!

@MojaxxVDJ great to hear that the pops and clicks have been removed from the filters. That really bugged me. However, there was also a slight difference in the sound between when the filter was on or off. So my question is this, when the resonance is turned completely down, will the sound be exactly the same whether the filter is on or off? (Hope that all made sense)
I've got my Xone:96 now, as well as I've had a preproduction model on loan for 12 days about a month ago - the difference in sound is gone as well. Making the use of the filters way more flexible :-)

That's why I'm a bit pissed at them for not giving me a straight answer. I'm still excited nonetheless. Also, dj spinnzinn (A&H Representative) mentioned that you can assign external effects to the filter knobs, I'm curious to know how that will sound like. Great video, mojaxx.👍👍

Has anyone used this mixer in the studio as their main audio interface? I am thinking seriously about switching my Qu16 for this mixer. Any advice welcome. Thanks for the great video MoJaxx.
Did you buy one? I just ordered one to hook to Ableton and use the ext instrument to use the push2 to control the moog mother 32 but route the audio straight into the 96 ... also hooking up the zen delay and reverb on the return channels ... can also route the Ableton channels to some of the faders ... but I need at least two channels spare to run rekordbox through it as well.
it's a tricky choice.. I've never played with 96 but all I've evere read great reviews/opinions.. anyway, I've a PX5 and I can say that is a very fine mixer: awesome sound (I can't say how much is different vs 96), brilliant FXs section (smoothly and blendy, not 'straight in your face' as Pioneer), fair price.. 96 has no FXs onboard then you've to add something, if you're interested.. I've to say that, nowtime, I'm really appreciating EQ manipulation that, combined with filters, give you a 'classy style' to sculpt your playing (sometimes better than FXs) ..

Hi Would u recommend this over the Denon dj1800 mixer? I have just brought 2 SC 5000Ms and was just wondering what feature I would be losing if I brought Xone 96 over the Denon Prime mixer? Can I still use Rekordbox with these units? Cheers
The xone would definitely be a better choice. It's an analog mixer. The xone 96 only has the filter and crunch for effects. The dj1800 has built-in digital effects.
if it could helping for you I can compare DB4 vs PX5, not the same but maybe close to.. DB4 is digital and you listen that..I've tried to record same 15 minutes mix on DB4 and PX5 : DB4 is clean, good sound of course but a little bit 'cold'..PX5 is clean but more 'rounded', full, more involving and rewarding yourself..
Bob Rokk thank you so much for your time. I still haven t got my hands on a PX5 ... but i got 96 now and it s all i wanted. Excelent quality in every way. Cheers Bob! 🥂
Absolute beast mixer. If only they had added built in delay and reverb (so u don’t need a DD-7 and a RV-6 pedal)... that would be KILLER. I had the 92 for years but eventually switched to a DB4 mainly because i was fed up wil external FX and cable clutter.
I bought the Xone:DB4 for the reason of having outstanding FX units. Once I got it, I was not impressed with FX. I ended up buying a RMX-1000 and was more happy to use those effects rather than the built in effects. Then came to find out, the xone:db4 does not have send/return connections. Therefore, I am switching to the xone:96.
So, what is the better choice today, DB4 or 96? Are there any plans to release a follow-up to the DB4, do you know? I am considering a mixer for live performances with grove boxes, samplers, etc. Would appreciate any advice.
MoogerTuber If you want to use a mixer with its on internal effects, grab the DB4. Good for progressive house, trance, and various house genres. I have not heard anything about updating the db4. But if you want to buy the newest addition to the xone series, go with the 96. Although, it does not have its own internal effects. You are going to have to buy external effects processors.
I think if you want to use grooveboxes etc you’ll want the 96 because of the sent/returns. The db4 doesnt have those. If u want built in FX than the db4 is an awesome mixer. I don’t know if there will be a newer version any time soon.
No problem with a slow release, just make sure everyone is informed correctly. I now simply gave an interest-free loan of 1800 euros without any terms...
The filters are cool BUT - that LED pop for the lfo tap tempo you can hear faintly during silence.. not so cool. Good riddance. But they were fun to mess with a bit. But totally not necessary especially with the negative elements it brings (along with the filter on/off button pops)
busywl69 I know lots of folks who also don’t use a crossfader, but having a good one is definitely a big deal to those who do, especially in a club mixer like this.
Thanks for the overview. Can this be used for live performance with groove boxes, samplers, synths and the like? Are there any limitations in this regard? I am not a DJ but DJ mixers somehow seem more appealing to me that standard mixing consoles.
hey buddy , hope all well , nice video , appreciate the knowledge you are sharing , need a small favour , can you help me with routing in ableton , my sends are not working .
I feel like they’re about to release a new mixer? A big online retailer knocking them for 20% off - of which I’ve purchased one. And a limited edition 92 being offered for pre-order. So. Former V10 owner. V10 is beast mode good. Currently own the Euphonia… Not satisfied with it as a sole unit to mix on. I’m best at throwing money at drains. I write this, I think, as a cry for help 😮 I’m loving the different style of the rotary blend, but from a creation point of view - I’m not able to nail a set with seamless transitions; with the variable peaks in volumes and rather lacklustre eq blending. The mid eq has no impact from: -26 till almost centre, and then a sudden boost to centre. Like why is there no gradual sweep? Is it a faulty unit? I come from the V10 and that thing is smooth as butter. I wanted smoother with the Euphonia… Feel like for everything the rotary offers is lost by no ability to sculpt individual frequencies. What I thought would allow a subtlety is translating to chaos. Poor dj skills it seems. Anybody with a view on this?? Maybe a clever, experienced soul can help.
There are a lot of similarities between this mixer and the Play Differently Model 1 (which makes sense given Andy Rigby-Jones's involvement). The Model 1 costs about a grand more than the 96 though. Does it really sound that much better? Or is that just the price of manufacturing in the UK rather than China?
I still don’t think that the price is right for dj mixers. Just think - for the same money or cheaper you can get a 32 channel professional mixing console like x32 or Midas m32, or you can buy A&H SQ5, A&H QU24 with endless possibilities for working with audio compered to this poor 4 channel dj mixer. All the mixing consoles even have a huge brightcolored screens! You can work with the concoles via ipad! Now look at the Xone mixer. It literally can’t do shit. I’m not saying that it’s a peace of garbage but the price is not right for me. DJ gear totally overpriced And the other thing I'd like to say. I know that many DJs are absolutely in love with analog dj mixers and with that legendary warm analog sound. But do they know that the signal from their lovely analog mixers goes straight to the digital mixing console and then to the digital audio processor for the PA? So what's the point of having an analog dj mixer?
Don't buy one! The left and right stereo signal isn't matched and it's also different on each 4 channels....poor build quality! I had one and sent it back straight away! It's a pity coz it had everything I wanted from a mixer! Getting a mastersounds 4v this Wednesday!!!

Anyone know the name of the track in the review?
got mine today baby
using LFOs is a skill not many people are able to master.... simulating autoducking is one use
Got one Best mixer❤
2.24 music name?
plz review taula 4
yesss
Can you compare sound quality with the DB4 ? I m curious if it s a big difference. Cheers!
if it could helping for you I can compare DB4 vs PX5, not the same but maybe close to..
Cheers Bob! 🥂
i wish they'd make a new 2 channel mixer.
Yeah, they really need to attack the budget Rotary market with a dual filter two channel option.
Once I got it, I was not
impressed with FX. I ended up buying a RMX-1000 and was more happy to use those effects rather
than the built in effects.
The DB4 bag has room for a MacBook and cables. JetSet DJ.
Most ez komoly, hogy egy ilyen drága keverőn nincs balansz szabályzó? Minek gyárt dj keverőt, aki nem ért hozzá?
Too dope for me!!!!!
background track name
stopped using a crossfader in 99'
Why?
don't need it for mixing techno and house music. the faders give total control of the mix.
busywl69 I know lots of folks who also don’t use a crossfader, but having a good one is definitely a big deal to those who do, especially in a club mixer like this.
Thanks for the overview. Can this be used for live performance with groove boxes, samplers, synths and the like? Are there any limitations in this regard? I am not a DJ but DJ mixers somehow seem more appealing to me that standard mixing consoles.
I dont always watch videos about knobs... but when i do....
I don't t know about that crunch... think the lfo would be more useful.
I still don't understand why the vcf filters r so special
I've a DJM900NXS2 and PX5 and there's a lot of difference: A&H sound far more precise and blendy, Pioneer is more 'cold' and aggressive..
@@djbobrokk723 fantastic 👌 thanks a lot❤
@@djbobrokk723 so they r the same but sounds different
@@jacqueswebster. no, I don't think they are same..I'm not a technician, try to search online something more..
@@djbobrokk723 what i have seen they are the same but sounds more professional
hey buddy , hope all well , nice video , appreciate the knowledge you are sharing , need a small favour , can you help me with routing in ableton , my sends are not working .
Hello, could someone explain to me what the differences between such a mixer and, say, an entry level one are? Thank you very much
How is it not having the filters available on the cue signal? I don't understand how that would be desirable.
I write this, I think, as a cry for help 😮
I’m loving the different style of the rotary blend, but from a creation point of view - I’m not able to nail a set with seamless transitions; with the variable peaks in volumes and rather lacklustre eq blending.
Why the fuck the cues got pink lights?
There are a lot of similarities between this mixer and the Play Differently Model 1 (which makes sense given Andy Rigby-Jones's involvement). The Model 1 costs about a grand more than the 96 though. Does it really sound that much better? Or is that just the price of manufacturing in the UK rather than China?
I think latter one..
Using my xone 23c until I can afford something bette r
I still don’t think that the price is right for dj mixers. Just think - for the same money or cheaper you can get a 32 channel professional mixing console like x32 or Midas m32, or you can buy A&H SQ5, A&H QU24 with endless possibilities for working with audio compered to this poor 4 channel dj mixer. All the mixing consoles even have a huge brightcolored screens! You can work with the concoles via ipad! Now look at the Xone mixer. It literally can’t do shit. I’m not saying that it’s a peace of garbage but the price is not right for me. DJ gear totally overpriced
And the other thing I'd like to say. I know that many DJs are absolutely in love with analog dj mixers and with that legendary warm analog sound. But do they know that the signal from their lovely analog mixers goes straight to the digital mixing console and then to the digital audio processor for the PA? So what's the point of having an analog dj mixer?
analog summing of audio within the mixer. Makes a difference
Good points but maybe the effects can make the dj mixer more apropried for djing
Made in China ???
Don't buy one!
The left and right stereo signal isn't matched and it's also different on each 4 channels....poor build quality!
I had one and sent it back straight away!
It's a pity coz it had everything I wanted from a mixer!
Getting a mastersounds 4v this Wednesday!!!
Got the mastersounds 4v.....best thing I've ever done!
Good bye LFO ! I'm glad it's now gone !
LFO were so cool and unique. and not something we can add externally. as crunch is totally available as external FX. Will miss the LFOs
