    As someone who is interested enough in antiques to watch videos about them but not interested enough to do the hunting/research/collection of them, I love finding channels like this.

    Didn't know what to expect with this video, but very interesting jaunt through a fairly unknown man's history.

    I suggest getting the metal wire from a pale of cat litter if you want to recreate the wire stabilizer... it's sturdy enough, will retain it's bend, and easy enough to bend

    A gross is another way of saying "a dozen dozens"
    1 gross = 144
    Also, grading equipment sorts fruits and vegetables by size, there isn't much to it besides what you already said.
    There are trap doors at the bottom that heavier fruits will fall through, but lighter fruits get redirected.
    And just as a guess, perhaps the bottles were manufactured straight, and then bent while the glass was still hot/ reheated and bent? I'm not a glass manufacturing expert though, idk 😅

      Yeah its crazy the stuff you can find at an antiques flea market. Last year a guy had a full box of embalming stuff in the original box/case it came in. So cool.

    My Meme had one of these!
    There was mouse poison in the bottom, the opening is tipped down to the floor. Mice can slip into the crack the mouth makes with the floor, eat the poison and go on their way to expire
    The dog couldnt get to it even with a paw

      Yeah i thought that was a pretty neat invention. Probably could still be useful.

    This bottle is machine-made but it's an from the early days of manufacture. The "creases" on the bottom is a common symptom of early machine-made pieces. I have a import beer bottle from Japan that's all wrinkly.

    I love the odd looking bottles. I wonder what it cost to patent something back in the day?

    Gross = 12 dozen = 144, that's 12.5 cents per exterminator, adjusted for inflation, $2.33 per exterminator.

    I wonder what people from back when these bottles were made would think about people collecting them now?

    • @antiquebottlestories
      @antiquebottlestories  5 місяців тому +1

      i often think about that. Especially if they wouldve guessed people would be digging up their outhouse holes in 100 years. They would be so disgusted at the thought. LOL!

    It just tips up so that it is more upright. This is too steep for a mouse to climb out. It doesn't look like it kills them.
