    So many comments about how this trap has "flaws". It is a simple trap. It is simular to a box trap, but made from everyday household items. You could "rodent proof" it, but then it wouldn't be what it is, simple ! You could line it with wire screen,The sticks could be glued onto the outside of the bottle, you could make it battery powered, you could make it launch the mouse into space, you could go and buy a mouse trap or you could just appreciate this for what it is. A neat and cheap way to catch a mouse !

      rob b What makes you think I'm a prepper? And why would a prepper be a human-hater? Paranoid, sure, but human-hater? They look out for themselves, is all. By your logic, everyone who uses their seat-belts hate humans, as do everyone wearing helmets, or use security harnesses... You really didn't think that post through before clicking "Reply", did you?

    Really remarkable idea for a relatively humane mouse trap! The only issue I can see is that the mouse would probably be able to chew through the plastic if you don't get to it in time. Maybe one could set it up to make more noise when the trap goes off.

      Dustin Wrye I don't think I've ever come across an "absolutely humane" mouse trap. "Relatively", meaning in relation to less humane traps such as glue traps and traps that are generally intended to kill mice.

      +Matthew E YES! Good thing I checked the trap before it managed to chew through to escape. It had already chewed an inch when I took the trap outside about 5 minutes after it got trapped. Then it managed to escape by pushing and prying the gap open with both front and back legs! We need a better trap than that, but at least it got trapped which is a good thing!

    • @HickoryChip0
      @HickoryChip0 9 років тому +2

      Snap traps are the best just kill them they can't come back

    • @SuperModerngranny
      @SuperModerngranny 9 років тому

      +Matthew E Wish I could handle blood and gore.... I can't handle dead animals even one as gross as a rat. I don't like snap traps because we have stray cats around here that might get hurt in the process. I know...they should be catching rats but then there are too many rats around, they outnumber the cats. :(

    • @LaughingRandomly
      @LaughingRandomly 8 років тому

      I needed to watch the same spot a couple of additional times myself, but it is simply the one end of a paper clip that he pushed up through the hole about a 1/4 to 1/2 an inch, then attached the string loop around the clip end.

    • @bobjones1131
      @bobjones1131 8 років тому

      I agree. It looks like the paperclip would have to be at the very back of the bottle to avoid being pulled forward by the tension on the string. The bait would have to be very strong or tied in because mice are known to remove it from sensitive traps without setting them off. This grab and run is unusual for mice that I have dealt with. Evidenced by a "licked clean" trap.

    • @greenreports
      @greenreports 10 років тому

      line peon In my area letting rats go is not a very good option. One of two things seems to happen (I've been told by folks who seem well-versed):
      * They quickly find another host home. Apparently there is a neighborhood near one of our parks that gets more than its share of rats due to humane catch and release.
      * They become an invasive species in an area where they have few natural predators.
      For me, the benefit of humane traps like this is that I at least don't *torture* and then kill the animal.

    In an old house I caught 47 mice (I counted) by simply putting two liter Pepsi bottle slanting and a bait in it. The plastic was so slippery that they couldn't get out upon entering, just running in place. After a time the bottle's interior would become rough, and the bottle had to be changed. (Of course I freed them all later, at ca 150 m away from the house, across the road at litter cans)..

    You're amazing! All these ideas seem really good, i hope one of them will work. No poison or trap i tried worked so far, and the situation is getting rather nasty. Oh, and when i finally catch those mean mice, i'll feed them to my ferret. Yummy yummy! :)

    I made this trap and it worked very well. The mouse even gave birth in the cage over night! I didn't know what to do with the mess so I put it in the microwave for 2 minutes. Only problem was the plastic warped badly and I couldn't reuse it. :(

    • @marleycauffing8159
      @marleycauffing8159 7 років тому

      That's sick. The trick is not to spend anymore money than you already have and saran wrap is not free, my friend. Something else to consider is putting the mouse in an old tube sock that is too ratty (get it?) to use anymore. Then you swing the sock around like a flail, really fast, and smack the mouse at high speeds against the table. The only problem I found with this method is I only have so many old socks.

    It's interesting seeing the animal activists in the comments. Of course it "looked scared", mice are on the bottom of the food chain, so literally everything (except other herbivores) hunt it down. "Poor thing was just hungry" ....You won't be saying that when you get ill after eating at a infested restaurant and making a lawsuit. They do damage to property and spread disease. Look... I like fuzzy little animals too, but there is such a thing as over population and becoming pests :/

      When they come at midnight, n cause some noise, thats really disgused. And when wake up in the morning, go to the kicthen then find some of their pup n pee.. Ohh thats make me want to take them all out of my house. They give me big troubles, and i need to make this item as soon as posibble..
