I was nervous about getting into saddle hunting because it seemed like it was more for compound bows but after watching this i can see how versatile it is thank you for this demonstration
Glad it was helpful. Good luck
Been hunting a couple years with saddle/crossbow. Definitely recommend cocking on ground. I also use an assault sling to attach the crossbow to me, because I don't want to drop it. And I attach my tether at shoulder height, this allows it to be at a better angle to rest my crossbow on while at rest, and with the excalibur short crossbow I have, the limbs are between me and the tree. These 3 things allow minimal movement to not give away your position. I do use a hook while setting up and loading, or to take a break during longer hunts.
First saddle hunting last year. After I shot a deer I lower my crossbow down and I accidentally dropped and I look at it, reload and shoot again to put the deer to rest for good.
Thanks for sharing your videos and keep them coming please.
Its great you think about the limbs. Youre clearly more of a tree stand guy thank you for covering this subject. Obviously comfort comes with practice but your tether could be tighter. you should be leaning into your saddle at all times. Putting your tether over your shoulder is not best practice as you may know by now. Listen to the godfather use the tree as a buffer! You can pivot and stablize your shot much better when leaning into your saddle.
We live in a hollow so behind the house is steep. In the 50's, this hollow was harvested of all the sellable wood. Backbthen there was no traffic on the highway below. So there was an elevated hunting lodge with electric coming from the house. Walk out porch. Now you can't get a 30yd shot. Itscall grown back. Back in the day they were reaching out to the other side....180-300 depending on the angle
Thanks for doing this.
Glad to do it!

I'm a disabled veteran and I've never hunted on my own, this is the way I'm going to try it this year
Let us know how it goes!! Thank you for your service
Great video
Thanks for watching
Thanks for great video. It clearly shows how uncomfortable horizontal( regular) crossbow is for saddle. I have 2 horizontal xbows (wide limbs and low profile) - both are too much movement and tether play in the saddle. I'd better take my compound bow with me for saddle hunting. However, vertical crossbow (hickory creek) is MUCH better than ANY regular x-bow in the saddle. Min to non extra movement in comparison to compound, easy to cock by hand (no tools). I'd suggest to try/video it. Was game change and I never thought of going back to reg. x-bow after.
I was thinking of trying a vertical crossbow with a saddle for next years setup. I would love to see a video if someone with that setup.
@@joshuagrochowski6999 Yes, the Mini Vertical is the way to go for many!
A climber is the best, u can even use the rail as a rest.
great point about limbs hitting the tree.. i didnt consider. i do not like the idea of standing on the platform and trying to shoot behind i would just swing around the tree so im hiding behind the tree like john eberhart.
Thanks for watching
There’s no way there was a deer that you shot at the end- you were talking too loud and moving to much. And that is pretty crappy to shoot one with a field tip.
Just kidding- I wanted to be ‘that guy’ …good vid!
You have a video that shows how you climb, and attach your steps to yourself, and access your equipment as you Climb? That’s what I struggle with
We will try to get this type video out in the next few weeks.

Shooting is easy reloading it sucks. So I switched back over to a compound
Not w a ravin lol
You will not have any issues with the Mini Vertical Crossbow shooting out of a saddle!
Easy peasy cocking without using your legs until you hurt your back. No sir, I’ll pass on that. I highly recommend at least checking out the Summit Mini Viper if you trek a long ways. I know it’s only a couple of pounds lighter than the full size Viper, but if you’re of average build it carries so much higher and easier. You just want to make sure both you and your crossbow aren’t too big for it.
Woooo your crossbow is looooo slow to cock compair to the hickory creek crossbow
Get that trash out of bow season!
