      @colinfraser369 2 роки тому +11

      I agree that would be a fantastic way to keep the Monaco GP and bring it up to date by adding something new and unique, not sure how realistic or practical it is though.
      F1 can't get Monaco to pay the going rate for the race let alone make the kind of investment a plan like that would take.

    • @colpul2103
      @colpul2103 2 роки тому +2

      I'll agree that it is time to update the circuit and make room for more dynamic racing, however Monaco is the most unique circuit on the calendar. None of the other street or faux street circuits are like it. The main problem with better opportunities for overtaking is all the street in Monaco are too narrow and there really isn't room to add wider streets or a track section, at least not without a lot of effort for a once yearly event. It is used for other races like Formula E but nothing close to racing importance.
      I would hate to see the Monaco GP go because of its history and iconic cache' but in fairness it is kind of like an old school iconic stadium whose time has passed. Like the old Yankee Stadium. Maybe with the French GP seeming to being going away a track should be built just outside Monaco. FIA's willingness to give up the French GP should be eye opening for Monaco if it really wants to keep the GP. Maybe if they can deal with that much elevation change have it dip down into part of the city in a sort of track/city or road/city hybrid. Right now as it is Q3 is the most exciting part of the weekend as pole is realistically only broken by P1 screwing up or having a DNF.
      Another issue is with grand stands, there's very limited room for them. Fewest seats on the tour translates into lower revenue. Something like 80% of spectators watch from windows and balconies along the route.

    I do like the race - it gives a unique challenge - though having said that I would only cry if Spa or Suzuka were off the calendar. The TV coverage is the stinker - they missed a bunch of important shots as usual. Most notably was a decent view of Mick's crash and it took them a while to find the least-bad shot for the replay so we could figure out how the car got chopped in half. The cutaways to K-Mag were meaningless and made me wonder if they knew whose car it was.
    In the old days bad coverage was everywhere - who can forget French TV's super-slow-mo camera that forced us to watch Prost bouncing over the kerbs when there was important action elsewhere on the circuit - but now Monaco coverage stands out for the wrong reasons.

    I love Monaco but it's beyond a joke with modern F1 cars. That said F2 and F3 look terrific around there. Drop it from F1 and turn the GP into a special invitational F2 race, with any F1 rookies being invited, along with the top 8-10 drivers in F2, top 5-6 in F3 and the leaders of all the major national championships. Add touring cars to the support bill and make it a festival of great motor racing.

    Monaco GP is more like a parade - it is not a good event for TV but it is fantastic for spectators as the cars are so much closer to them. At the end of the day, its all about the money, though. Formula 1 and FIA will demand higher hosting fees, control of the trackside advertising and TV rights. There is a lot of talking to be done but this time, I suspect that Monaco does not have the upper hand.

    The ACM needs to realize that the Monaco Grand Prix is not like the other two races in the Triple Crown of Motorsports for one key reason. The World Endurance Championship would collapse without the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Indycar Series would collapse without the Indianapolis 500. Formula One can very much live without the Monaco Grand Prix. And given how dull the racing usually is at that circuit, I suspect a rather large segment of the Formula One fan base would not be too upset to see it go. If Monaco wants to stay on the calendar, the ACM needs to give up its special treatment.

In Imola the traffic was crazy and it was a nightmare, much worse than Monaco. And one last thing, F1 from the grandstands in Monaco is crazy, you can really see and feel the crazy speed they can carry through corners, I’ve seen F1 in Monza, Imola and Monaco and in Monaco it is twice as spectacular, it has genuinely blowed my mind, while in Monza and Imola it was more “normal”

Or some of the really old ones from the 60s when the cars actually fit, AND had room to race on the streets. Honestly, the cars are FAR too big to race there anymore, but it is literally one of the crown jewel races. I don't see it going anywhere. I hope it stays because it’s a bit different, more emphasis is put on qualifying and strategy than overtaking which for 1 race a year I’m fine with

    Leclerc would be aghast by this development... Monaco in calendar for 7 decades and now that he is racing things are the most uncertain

    Monaco is the most Iconic circuit in F1 and no amount of "fan" complaining will change that. It's not a traditional race and expecting it to be is just people missing the point. It's a qualifying race and then luck of the draw and pit stops to change places. That in it's own makes it unique and requires a little diversity of race understanding from the fans but it's still always an interesting result that never fails to produce some sort of drama. I think the rise of popularity of F1 is starting to have a negative effect on it and turning it into an instant gratification race series like all the others. It's not Kart or Nascar. It's ok to have them battle a few laps before earning that pass ;)
    The TV deal needs to go though for sure!

      That is what the young people want is instant gratification. They are poorer for it.

    I love the fact that you’ve put in some B-roll from Gamla stan, Stockholm, Sweden, at 4:57.

    Monaco is an a important part of F1, do you imagin F1 without Ferrari? without Monaco? without Spa? of course not and if you don't care at all your are not a real fan.

      I really can't imagine an f1 season without my yearly dose of watching children try and direct an f1 race

    Monaco has to be out and replaced with a more entertaining race like say Nurburgring GP or even Sochi would be better or maybe a Laguna Seca race

    I love the history and the style of Monaco, but in Terms of racing it's severely lacking. If not changed it should be removed

    OFC it is THE track which prove the level of drivers. It's THE challenge of the year
