What works good, is a 3/4 impact extension. Cut a groove in the extension. Slide the brake into the notch and hit it with the 3/4 impact. The outer shell will twist around the extension, and the inner tang ring you can snap it with the extension as well. 30 minutes done.

the key to sharping chisel is never let it get to hot when grinding it they are already harden dip in water while sharpening !! KIENE K-1360 clutch brake cutter ! we use to do it the hard way by cutting with chisel by it always damages the face of throw out bearing and face of trans putting gouges witch shorten life of new clutch brake !! tool is the best investment u will ever make !!!

NEVER toss the oe one piece clutch brake for a two piece. This is terrible advice. If they were better, manufacturers like Eaton would supply them, but they don’t. A one piece brake will never become uncunted (they usually just clip together) and get tossed off of the input shaft potentially causing other damage inside of the bell housing which could come with some major repair bills. I’ve done enough of them to know if you’re taking more than an hour or two to chisel or torch one out (last resort), that’s on you. Only mechanics I know who’d recommend them are either afraid of cutting one out or work on a fleet where their drivers will smoke a clutch brake in no time.

Really?? Most folks I've talked to say that the 2 piece aftermarket is a superior product.

Do you have a shop I can visit to fix my clutch brake brother?

  • @deer8730

this clutch brake looks like it came apart from the inner ring. with these clutches it is possible for the auto adjustment to over adjust, and reduce the gap between the bearing and the brake. If this is the case here, resetting the clutch would have probably been sufficient. It would have allowed the bearing to move another 1/4 in or more to apply enough force to squeeze the broken parts of the outside part of the brake onto the inner ring, which had intact teeth, and stop the shaft.

most rookies just adjust clutch rather than clutch brake
