QUESTION ⁉️ So... I just made these, and I have them in the fridge chilling until I can bake these tomorrow and I'm wondering, won't these spread due to the lack of baking soda or baking powder won't these spread???
I finally was successful making thumbprint cookies thanks to you! I am 41 years old and the way you explained the steps put me at ease. Thank you so very much because my kids really wanted these for Christmas 🎄. You so rock!!!
Only recently found this channel and wanted to thank you. As a busy parent, who still wants to make Christmas magical and special for my kids, you and your channel have been so wonderful!
refreshed homepage and was SHOCKED to catch a fresh new preppy kitchen upload! I was just wondering what new thing i should try to make today and I guess you've made up my mind for me! I really love how accessible your recipes are, thank you!
When I make my thumbprint cookies, I use the pointed end of an egg, dipped in powdered sugar to make the circular indent. Works wonderfully and quickly.
I make these every year, but use Almond extract instead of vanilla. Usually use raspberry or apricot jam. To finish I use a light dusting of powdered sugar. Thank you for another wonderful video.
My Nanna just passed away. She was a terrible cook, but the one thing she could bake were what we in Australia call Jam Drops. Ie, these cookies! Always a winner and so cute. I'll look forward to a jam drop and a cup of tea with her in heaven. Thank you for sharing your recipe :-)
My mom made these with chopped pecans and chocolate frosting. She rolled the dough in the nuts before baking and it was my job to put the thumbprint in. We also used colored frosting depending on the occasion. Now I’m hungry!!
This is a family favorite! We follow an old recipe called Austrian Jam Cookies. We always use seedless blackberry or Seedless Black Raspberry and we use the beaten egg white to roll the dough in, then roll them in chopped walnuts! Absolutely delicious! Your recipe and ours are very similar with a couple of differences in measurements!
I have a blower/vacuum made for cleaning electronics that I use to blow out flour from the motor of my stand mixer. I also use it for my hand mixer, microwave, toaster, waffle maker, food processor etc. This seriously extends the life of the appliances.
My grandmother used to make these for holidays. She called them “Tum cookies” ‘cause she couldn’t say “Thumb”. She would roll the balls of dough in granulated sugar and finely chopped pecans and then make the thumbprint. She used raspberry jelly. They were my favorites but the recipe died with her 😔. Now, I have yours which is essentially the same. Thanks, John
I just made a couple batches of these and the flavor is so delicate and delicious! My first batch kept cracking and I couldn’t fix them. I went wrong by making them too big, fixed the second batch by adding a few table spoons of warm half and half (that’s all the real milk I have 😂) and they came out PERFECT!
Mine also cracked. I am going to make again and add milk as you did. Thanks for the tip. I think my butter got cold while rolling balls. It is cold in here.
Thumbprints are one of my favorite Christmas cookies. I especially love raspberry jam and the tartness of red currant. These look lovely. I enjoy watching you bake.
I’ve made this recipe twice so far - first time measuring everything in volume and the second - using a scale. Measuring in volume gave me a dough which looked very much like sand - definitely too dry, so I added a bit of milk and the recipe turned out to be OK still. But the second time I used a scale, and the dough turned out EXACTLY like John’s. So I beg you, fellow home bakers - go and get the scale if you still don’t have one! Invaluable tool! The recipe itself is amazing - the cookies are sooo delicious and easy to make (although a bit time consuming, but it’s worth it). Thank you, John!
I never used a scale until I started following and cooking John's recipe. It makes a big difference. I will not bake without measuring with a scale anymore.
Thanks John. I've made this from your website multiple times for my friends and have even taken them on a plane interstate as a gift. It's always been a hit. Wonderful recipe!! Thank you very much!
Damit, seeing these cookies really brings up memories plus tears to my eyes, belive it or not. I remember those cookies are beeing my Dad's favorite. Here in Bavaria these cookies go by the name "Husarenkrapfen", but i'm sure there's a ton of other names 'round the world. My Granny made 'em every Chrismas as long as she was able to bake. May they both rest in peace. Anyways, many thanks for the video John!
i tried it today, i did everything, but it was super sweet, i would recommend using 20g less sugar, but overall it was so so good, and the texture was amazing
When I made your cream cheese cookies, I was able to make a small indent and put rasberry preserves on them, and omg, they were soooooo good! I'll have to make these next. ❤
i love making thumbprint cookies each year so i decided to make this recipe immediately! 😂 i also added a 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract because i love it so much. I only had 1 stick of unsalted butter so i used 1 stick salted as well but i cut the additional salt down to 1/4 teaspoon. They are currently chilling in the fridge!
THESE ARE DELICIOUS! my kids helped and everyone got their own favorite jam. Thank you for sharing your recipes with the world! You’re the BEST! Merry Christmas to you and your family 💙
Perfect timing. I plan to bake two types of print cookies next, jam filled and chocolate kisses. This weekend I baked Grinch sugar cookies and chocolate chip oatmeal cookies with nuts.
I just made thumbprint cookies but the recipe I used didn't mention refrigerating the dough before baking, nor did I know about your adorable hack for making the heart shape. I will definitely make these using raspberry jam and caramel sauce. I hope you and your family have a joyous holiday season.
I found out this summer that we have an apricot tree, I've lived here for six years and it produced gobs of little apricots just this year and omg they were soooo good. Fingers crossed they produce a lot next year.
I made them today! Thank you for the recipe, it's super easy and fast, especially with a stand mixer. It's going to be my favourite recipe now! :) I used strawberry, mango, and blueberry jam
I needed to make these for someone and was looking for the perfect recipe, which is yours! You're baking is the absolute best, thank you so much for sharing you're recipes. Where can I buy you're cookbook at?
Nice Apron John!!! lol I made them this evening. All went well but they definitely cracked when making the thumb print. Annoying but I worked them back to shape. They do not look as perfect as yours. I am going to make again. Butter hardened while making the balls , believe. It is cold in here. I am sure that had something to do with it. Thanks John. You are my go to baker for all the things I bake. I bake alot.
I absolutely love watching you and trying out all of these recipes! This one will be the next on my list! Thank you so much and keep being and doing you! You are amazing

So...

@@leftear99 you are very welcome. Anything that makes our jobs easier, right? Merry Christmas.
John, all of your videos are the best therapy for me. I just made your pastry cream that you made awhile back, and it was pure heaven. ❤
This is the best cooking channel by far. He is hysterical, natural and fun! Recipes are awesome too ! Great Job as always John..

He keeps things simple of which I love. Thank you
Great short bread recepte. I used home made rasberry jam. My hubby said it is the best short bread this year xmas baking. Thanks!
The tiny spoon is so cute. The cookies look so pretty with the different jams, and I bet they taste amazing

Heart warming and fun for the season! I love watching you making the cookies

Mine also cracked. I am going to make again and add milk as you did. Thanks for the tip. I think my butter got cold while rolling balls. It is cold in here.
Loving the apron, so festive! 🎅🏽
I love your teaching style. I can’t wait till your cookbook is delivered. It’s supposed to be a gift!!! But…. ❤️
Thumbprints are one of my favorite Christmas cookies. I especially love raspberry jam and the tartness of red currant. These look lovely. I enjoy watching you bake.
I can't wait to make these little cookies for Valentines day. As always, excellent presentation!!
Wow! I was just looking for a thumbprint cookie recipe yesterday, what a lovely coincidence 🎉

My experience as well. The recipe should really read 2.5 cups of flour.
I never used a scale until I started following and cooking John's recipe. It makes a big difference. I will not bake without measuring with a scale anymore.
These cookies will be added to my Christmas cookie baking day! Thanks John.
I vividly remember my mother making these and calling “ maggie pie, I need your thumb for the cookies” 🙏💕 oh how I miss my mother
I made this last Christmas to gift for all my friends in town and they all approved!!
Thanks John. I've made this from your website multiple times for my friends and have even taken them on a plane interstate as a gift. It's always been a hit. Wonderful recipe!! Thank you very much!
It’s like you read my mind. I got three types of preserves from a farmers market. My parents are going to love these. Thanks again
I'm gonna make these. A batch for us and a batch for my coworkers. These look amazing.
I needed a jam cookie recipe. Thank you.
That's just the recipe I needed to use the homemade guava jam that is on my fridge. Thanks!
They are so good. I made it at home and for church Sunday and they love it. Thank you John. Your recipes are always so good 🥰
I've always wondered how those were created... now I know... thanks John...Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you for using weight measurements!! It saves so much time and makes things easier. I can never measure my flour accurately in cups.
I have made your sourdough bread recipe 8 times!!! Its ahhhhmazing 😊😊

You are a king of cookie recipes. I have tried several of your recipes and they always turned out very nice.
I grew up buying these for lunch at a bakery next to my school except they were filled with chocolate icing. Delicious

I made the thumbprint cookies today. Delicious!
i tried it today, i did everything, but it was super sweet, i would recommend using 20g less sugar, but overall it was so so good, and the texture was amazing
also i used like 10g-30g extra flour, i think it depends on the type of the flour u have
These are my favorite holiday cookies!
When I made your cream cheese cookies, I was able to make a small indent and put rasberry preserves on them, and omg, they were soooooo good! I'll have to make these next. ❤
How long should I leave out after the jam?
I am going to add jam to mine. Thanks for the tip!
I've not seen you make these before, thanks John.
I haven't made thumbprint cookies in years. Thanks for the reminder. I always coated mine in crushed pecans but I'll give your recipe a try also.
This is the first time I made this cookie. Came out very well. Thank you
I made these tonight. I even tried making hearts, not easy, but they are so light and delicious.
